The Call Center


Caller: Hello, can I speak to Annie Wan?

Operator: Yes, you can speak to me..

Caller: No, I want to speak to Annie Wan!

Operator: Yes I understand you want to speak to anyone. You can speak to me. Who is this?

Caller: I'm Sam Wan .. And I need to talk to Annie Wan!
It's urgent.

Operator: I know you are someone and you want to talk to
anyone ! But
what's this urgent matter
about?

Caller: Well... just tell my sister Annie Wan that our
brother Noe
Wan was involved in an accident.
Noe Wan got injured and now Noe Wan is being sent to the
hospital.
Right now, Avery Wan is on
his way to the hospital.

Operator: Look, if no one was injured and no one was sent
to the
hospital, then the accident isn't
an urgent matter! You may find this hilarious but I
don't have time
for this!

Caller: You are so rude! Who are you?

Operator: I'm Saw Ree ..

Caller: Yes! You should be sorry . Now give me your name!!

Operator: That's what I said. I'm Saw Ree ..

Caller: Oh God...


[Sorry about the title, I can't edit it. Just imagine it says, "Call Center". XD]

Hmm, I might come across as being too strict here, but this type of humour which makes fun of a certain type of people (Allah's people, nonetheless), is not very proper for us muslims.

Just remove the "Chinese" in the title, and you should be fine...

I agree that the word "Chinese" should be taken out of the title, but because it's inaccurate.

The caller is Chinese. The operator at the call center is the non-Chinese dimwit that can't tell that the caller is asking for people in his family (with Chinese names).

Err, Aapa, I don't think this joke is racist at all. My Chinese friend is sitting right next to me as I write this. (He's actually telling me what to *write now). He says it's definitely not racist. It's just a PUN on the names. There's nothing more to it.

Also, it was not even making fun of the Chinese, it was the operator that was confused. The only mistake is in the thread title. There has been a similar joke with Kofi Annan, Yassar Arafat and Condy Rice...and the joke was about George Bush being confused. It was making fun of Bush, not the other people.

Well yeah, my friend (Chinese friend straight out of Jinan, just south of Beijing) and I both agree that the joke was a bit lame, or you could describe it as sophomoric too. But it's definitely not racist. It's not even making fun of the Chinese.

However, I'm not sure what a "sand jockey" is, but I think that actually is* a negative racial term against a race of people. There is a difference.

Oh true, didn't see that. I actually stopped reading before it finished.
But now it doesn't make any sense. How can there be such miscommunication if the caller and operator are both Chinese.....
Ah well. Also, the first few names were real, but "Saw Ree" is nothing like a real name.

I didn't mean to at all, I just thought it was a joke since I didn't really pay attention to the "Chinese" part.
Then again, it's my fault. I hope you didn't take it offensively.
