Does Islam permit organ transplant?

Does Islam permit organ transplant?

Three conditions arise. One, it should not be damaging for the donor. If a donor dies just by donating his organ, in that case it’s Haram. Second condition is different. A person can live on one kidney. If I donate one kidney and the other person survives, both of us are saved. Then the third point is that you cannot donate your organs for the cause of money. If these conditions are fulfilled, then organ transplant can be done.

That is so intresting and makes so much sense. I must confess I have never given the Organ donation and Islam issue much thought I just pressumed it was Halal. Can Muslims donate their brain too?

Erm, yes, but only IF that Muslim has TWO brains and s/he won't die by donating one of those! :)

Seriously, no - I don't think so.

lol :) I don't think so. As far as I can remember, I once read that the brain is the only organ that hasn't been transplanted yet.

Yes, we are allowed organ transplant but only if it doesnt harm us in life and after death.

So if you can recive an organ ( within the guidelines) then surley you can donate them after you have passed away too?

So you had Transplantation and donation confused with each other?! :D It happens with us all - no worries.

Now this one IS an interesting and more sensible question compared to the one you asked above! Lol
I have just done bit of quick exploration and have found the answer given by an Islamic scholar. In short, the answer is yes - hurray! :) And, of course, there are certain matters need to be taken in consideration, just like in any other Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh) issues.

This excerpt from that scholar’s reply answers your question:
If you (the donor Muslim) wish to leave instructions to the effect that a certain organ or part of your body such as kidneys or liver or heart should be harvested for saving the lives of others, or to find the cause of a certain disease which may be instrumental in preventing further occurrence of the disease, you may do so without incurring any sin. Such an act will even be considered as a grand act of charity since there is no charity greater than the gift of life. It is worth remembering that Islam, being as it is primarily a religion of mercy, ennobles all charitable acts to every breathing soul or being.

If you or any other Muslim interested want to read in more detail (recommended), go to this page.

And, by the way, happy learning about Islam! ;) Of course, you don't have to revert - knowledge of the highly potential major world religion is valuable to you in general. :)

Awesome thank you. It made sense to me that if you were allowed to recive then you could give so I'm glad you can.
