First of all, never trust wikipedia as a source of true information. It can be edited by ANYONE to say anything.
Secondly, Coca-cola did use cocaine in it's ingredients when it was first formulated. This was before anyone understood the addictive properties associated with the chemical. Now it does not use cocaine and has not for over half a century.
There is this hysteria over the fact that certain forms of acid are used in it. (lke any other carbonated drink) But what people fail to realize is our stomach naturally makes a stronger acid to digest food and the acid content in sodas is very low and has no effect on us or our stomach lining.
Then there is this matter of alcohol. I think people often confuse the chemical term alcohol (which is a naming system based of a specific functional group on the molecule) and the actual alcohol that intoxicates. (such as ethanol or methanol) Certain things are referred to as "Alcohol" in chemistry but do not have the same intoxicating properties as liquor/beer. The "Alcohol" group is used as a solvent and nothing more, it cannot intoxicate.
Anyone here drink or flavor your food with vinegar? It actually has a functional group on it that would make it "Alcohol." But you can drink gallons of it and it will never intoxicate. So we need to have an understanding that just because you see the word "alcohol" does not mean it is haram, it is a chemical naming technique. Now as far as these "non-alcoholic" beers go, they do contain trace amounts of the alcohol deemed haram in Islam. Because they are only trace amounts the companies get away with calling them alcohol free.
