Official Decision and Announcement of the High Judiciary Council of Saudi Arabia...
Just a short time ago, (haha.. ok maybe this was a while ago) Fatwa-Online was informed of the official decision
and announcement of the High Judiciary Council (HJC) of Saudi Arabia that
since the moon of Dhul-Hijjah was sighted here in Saudi Arabia, we shall be
completing twenty nine (29) days of Dhul-Qi'dah, inshaa.-Allaah.
Subsequently, 1 Dhul-Hijjah 1427 will be Thursday 21 December 2006,
and the Muslims performing Hajj will be in 'Arafah on Friday 29 December
2006 (9 Dhul-Hijjah 1427), and the Muslim Ummah shall be celebrating 'Eed
al-Adhaa on Saturday 30 December 2006, (10 Dhul-Hijjah 1427),
inshaa.-Allaah.
May Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala) accept all our worship for His Sake only,
and may He further bless us all with forgiveness and adherence to the
Quraan and the authentic Sunnah as understood by the best of generations,
namely the Sahaabah, the Taabi'oon and the Atbaa' at-Taabi'een, in short,
the pious predecessors, inshaa.-Allaah:
Zahdam ibn Mudrab narrated: I heard 'Imraan ibn Husayn saying: The Prophet
(sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) said:
((The best people are those living in my generation, then those coming after
them, and then those coming after (the second generation). )), [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree, 3/219];
'Abdullaah ibn Mas'ood (radhi-yallaahu 'anhu) narrated: The Prophet
(sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) said:
((The people of my generation are the best, then those who follow them, and
then those who follow the latter)), [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree, 3/820];
'Aa.ishah (radhi-yallaahu 'anhaa) narrated that: A person asked Allaah's
Apostle (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) as to who amongst the people were
the best. He said:
((Of the generation to which I belong, then of the second generation
(generation adjacent to my generation), then of the third generation
(generation adjacent to the second generation). )), [Saheeh Muslim 6159].

That having been said, we should all strive our hardest before Eid comes around, many fail to realize the blessings behind these last ten days of Dhul Hijjah.
Please my brothers and sisters, this is the best time of the year and we should all take advantage of it.
Abu Hurairah relates that the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said, "There are no days more loved to Allaah for you to worship Him therein than the ten days of Dhul Hijja. Fasting any day during it is equivalent to fasting one year and to offer salatul tahajjud (late-night prayer) during one of its nights is like performing the late night prayer on the night of power. [i.e., Lailatul Qadr]." [This is related by at-Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, and al-Baihaqi]
Lets do some math ok?
Dhul Hijjah:
1 day fasting = 1 year fasting
Otherwise:
1 day fasting = 1 day fasting

Dhul Hijjah:
1 day fasting = 1 year fasting
Otherwise:
1 day fasting = 1 day fasting
This doesn't mean that we shouldn't fast otherwise. Just the contrary, because the more good deeds you stock up, the heavier your balance will be on the Day of Judgement (Inshallah). However I think we all know or can realize what kind of opportunity we are getting here!
