Help - what shall we do about people like this?

Assalamo alaykom,

Probably all of you know the cartoons of the prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) that the Danish Newspapers once published, then it was in Norwegian newspapers as well, all over Internet and in Swedish newspapers too. The Muslims came with threats to the person who draw these cartoons etc.

Now in Sweden there is this man, Lars Vilks, who loves to do the same thing. He claims he "supports the freedom of speech" by insulting Muslims and Islam. So he draws cartoons, some worse than the Danish cartoons, and he during a lesson he has about freedom of speech shows a video of homosexual people having intercourse wearing faces supposed to be the prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him). During this lesson he was attacked by, probably, a Muslim guy (or two) but not very badly since there were police men there to stop them. Then the same day I believe his website was hacked with a text saying something like "Still talking about our prophet? You m*therf*cker" (sorry for writing this word).

This website that was hacked makes me very confused. What righteous Muslim even uses that word above?

But morely I wonder: are we Muslims supposed to be patient and control our anger like the prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) told us to? Or shall we do like a few Muslims try to convince me about that it's right to threat, attack, hack and try to kill persons doing like this to the prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him)?

I need help in this matter. And if you have hadiths, Quran verses, fatwas etc which can support what you say would be better.

Of course we should be patient. There is nothing wrong with speaking out against it, but I think that the ones who try to justify threats and violence should sincerely try and study the sira of the the Prophet(s) better. Most Muslims KNOW the Prophet (s) was always being insulted by the non-believers and was given a very hard time, but I don't think that they actually register it. These insults that we are seeing against our Prophet(s) today are very minor compared to the character assassination that he faced on a constant basis during the pre-hijra times. Here's one hadith I found related to this:

Sahih Bukhari Volume 9, Book 84, Number 61:
Narrated 'Aisha:

A group of Jews asked permission to visit the Prophet (and when they were admitted) they said, "As-Samu 'Alaika (Death be upon you)." I said (to them), "But death and the curse of Allah be upon you!" The Prophet said, "O 'Aisha! Allah is kind and lenient and likes that one should be kind and lenient in all matters." I said, "Haven't you heard what they said?" He said, "I said (to them), 'Wa 'Alaikum (and upon you).

In this hadith the Prophet(s) told Aisha to not even curse the people who had insulted the Prophet(s) in his face, yet today there are Muslims that like to justify killing people for insulting the Prophet Muhammad(s)?

There's another hadith that comes to mind, but I can't remember where it's from or how I would search it. To paraphrase the best that I can remember:

The Prophet was smiling while someone was cursing and insulting him. A sahabi next to him couldn't take it and starting cursing the person who was insulting the Prophet(s). The Prophet(s) had stopped smiling and the sahabi asked what happened. The Prophet said that when he started cursing him out the angels stopped taking away his sins and giving it to the one who was insulting the Prophet(s).

Maybe someone can recognize this story and post the hadith that it's from.

This website that was hacked makes me very confused. What righteous Muslim even uses that word above?

I could probably write you an essay on this topic  My opinion and extremely short answer is that this is a case of Muslims letting their anger and frustration overcome them as well as the fact that Muslims shouldn't be doing a lot of things, like hacking websites, but do it anyway.

I know that it's very difficult to keep the magnitude of these verses in our head all the time:

99.7
So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it,
99.8
And whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it.

Hope you find your answers!

Assalamu allaicum wa raahmatullah wa baraktuhu

may Alah reword you dear sister for sharing with us this thread. SubhanAllah, I really do not know which answer to give, because I think we can never stop unbelivers for insolting our beloved Prophet Mohammed s.a.w.s.. Our Prophet is always in our hearts, and Muslims are showing love for him by thier good deeds and folowing his Sunnah, all Muslims( The one who folow Quran and Sunaah) would gave life to defend honour of our Prophet s.a.w.s., but even that would not stop unbelivers, because their hearts are selled and they do not see the truth. But they should know that Allahs punishment will reach them, like it has riched those before them, to Allahs punishment they can never escape.

I think that Muslims should proteste against " Danish cortoons" or any other insolting attacks on Prophet Mohammed s.a.w.s, Islaam, and Muslim belifs, because they are really hutring us so much with thier insolts, killing of our brothers, raping our sisters, Astagfirulah. How less are they humans, and what is in thier hearts and minds. I feel my heart is hurting me so much SubhanAllah, I do not know how to defend my beloved Prophet, and my Muslim brothers and sisters.May Allahs punishmnet reach them all soon, for thier wrongdoings. Islamic organizations, and Muslim Jamaat in Sweden and other non Muslim countries should look for justice by law, becasue I belive every country law should forbid any kind of insolting by race or religion belief.

" Fain would they put out the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah disdaineth (aught) save that He shall perfect His light, however much the disbelievers are averse. " He it is Who hath sent His messenger with the guidance and the Religion of Truth, that He may cause it to prevail over all religion, however much the idolaters may be averse. " ( At tawba, 32-33)

I think this video makes it clear that if we don't protect the honour of our beloved prophet (saw) then Allah will make animals defend and protect it by any means.

What Allah says in the qur'an:
Sura 9
(60) And of them are those who vex the Prophet and say: He is only a hearer. Say: A hearer of good for you, who believeth in Allah and is true to the believers, and a mercy for such of you as believe. Those who vex the messenger of Allah, for them there is a painful doom

Assalamualikum. There are different types of patience but when it comes to insulting our prophet pbuh or Allah The Exalted, you must question those people. If you are silent,Allah will question you on the day of judgment.

I am wondering which Muslim will keep quite. How will you feel if someone insult your mother? The reaction you give will be spontaneous right?

I do not agree on the hacking the site with vulgar words. But at least I will defend even if not with strength,I can defend by words.

Allah knows the best
Assalamualikum

Barak Allah fikom.

It's true we shall not be silent. But attacking by hands is not to be silent, it's to attack. Words are many times more effective than hands.

But secondly, I wonder about these hadiths that the Muslims who support this kind of things to nonMuslims doing like this to the prophet Mohammad (saaws) show me:

(from this pdf file from a lesson http://www.kalamullah.com/Books/The Dust Will Never Settle Down.pdf)

Kab bin al Ashraf, was a Jewish leader and he was a very eloquent poet. When the news was carried to Madina of the victory of the Muslims in the battle of Badr and Kab ibn al Ashraf heard of that news he said:
"If this news is true, then being under the earth is better for us, then being on top of it". Meaning, it is better for us to die. What good is there in living after the Kuffar of Quraysh have been defeated. And he started making poems in which he would lament the loss of the Mushrikeen and he would also speak against the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the Muslims. Then he went on to Makkah to present to them his poetry and to also join them in their losses.

And he went further and started mentioning Muslim women in his poetry. So the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
"Who will take care of Kab ibn Ashraf because he has harmed Allah and his Messenger?"
Muhammad bin Maslamah (may Allah be pleased with him), one of the Ansar from the tribe of Aws said: "I will do so O Messenger of Allah! Do you want me to kill him?"
The Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Yes!"

and

Ibn Taymiyah says: "And this is evidence that harming Allah and his Messenger is a reason to encourage Muslims to kill whoever does that even if they have a contract with the Muslims, even if there is a covenant!"

It's mentioned about a black list where people who slandered the prophet Mohammad (saaws) were to be killed - and most of them were also killed.

This makes me very confused. Because some say one thing, some say another thing. Some sisters today told me though that the books used in this lesson, and the explanations and hadiths from the books, are not to be trusted because it is not good sources.

So what shall I believe?

I don't believe in killing for this sake, but I don't believe in being quite either. I believe in the power of the word. Even though if I saw this Swedish man on the street I would gladly hit him too - but I wouldn't because it wouldn't lead anywhere good.

Islam is a way of life
What I do know, is drawing an Arab and claiming it's the Prophet Muhammad does not warrant death. No one knows what he looks like, unless you've seen him in a dream. Honestly, a person can draw a Flamingo and label it Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and it would not amount to a hill of beans!

He only said for us not to draw him because it encourages idol worshipping, not to kill anyone who draws him...Am i correct?

Don't yell and argue with them, thats what they want! They want you to be angry, they want you to threaten them...they FEED off that!
This will all blow over ya'll, right now Muslims and insulting Prophet Muhammad is a fad, it's terrible but I'm sure this wont last long.

:salam2:

I think this can be broken down into two parts,

A- Ruling on one ths insults the Prophet :saw2:

Praise be to Allaah.

The answer to this question may be given by addressing the two following issues:

1 – The ruling on one who insults the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)

The scholars are unanimously agreed that a Muslim who insults the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) becomes a kaafir and an apostate who is to be executed. This consensus was narrated by more than one of the scholars, such as Imaam Ishaaq ibn Raahawayh, Ibn al-Mundhir, al-Qaadi ‘Iyaad, al-Khattaabi and others. Al-Saarim al-Maslool, 2/13-16

This ruling is indicated by the Qur’aan and Sunnah.

B- Who carries this punishment out.

There is no doubt that in a Muslim country one cannot take the Law into his/ hers own hands, so would the same ruling apply in a non-Muslim country? This should be left to the Scholars.

Also by attacking this man would this benefit the Muslims in that specific country more or less? Again another debate fo the Scholars to get into not tha layman.

Here is some advise from Islam Q&A about what Muslims should do (this was in regards to the anti-Islam film, but i think it can also apply to this situation)

What the Muslims should do now is:

1. Not cause problems in their own countries, such as demonstrations in which property is destroyed or blood is shed.

2. Refer the matter to scholars and wise men to deal with it, or something similar.

3. Strive to adhere to Islam in word and deed, which means taking part in spreading Islam and annoying the kaafirs who hate Islam and the Muslims.

4. Call people to Allaah with wisdom and knowledge, distribute translations of the meanings of the Qur’aan and easy-to-read Islamic books, and seek the help of trustworthy Islamic organizations and trustworthy scholars in doing so.

And Allaah is the Guide.

اللهم صل على محمد و على آل محمد كما صليت على ابراهيم و آل إبراهيم إنك حميد مجيد و بارك على محمد و على آل محمد كما باركت على إبراهيم , آل إبراهيم. إنك حميد مجيد

:salam2:

Personally I do not know how to respond to these people. Sometimes I feel angry and feel they should be killed for mocking our beloved Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) but again sometimes I feel we should ignore them as it might be to provoke us.

And what Alf2 has mentioned is also a valid point they can draw any one and say its the Prophet but again don't know how to judge it. This has become a regular series of tactics deployed by the misguided non muslims who want to insult over Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) just few days back it was "South Park" and now this.

Seriously this issue should be taken in the International court of law freedom of expression doesn't mean you can insult any religion. We Muslims respect all Prophets I often wonder why don't they realize that we don't and cannot insult Jesus for the Christains.

I don't usually get mad and try to keep my anger under control, am always almost a happy person:) This hadith pops in my mind everytime i someone/thing upsets me.
"One of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (p.b.u.h.) asked Prophet Muhammad for advice. He asked that the advice be short so that he would be able to remember it. "Don't get angry," said the Prophet. The same Companion repeated his request for some brief advice; each time he received the same answer from the Prophet each time, "Don't get angry!".
(Source; Bukhari, A'dab, 76)
....When are these cruel people going to realize that by drawing cartoons, they're NOT actually drawing Muhammad SAW, but are wasting their precious time because No-ONE from our generation has seen Him! UGH! As much as I try to ignore these issues, It is reallyyyy getting to me wallahi. But Two wrongs don't make a right, so as some people said, it's best if we don't give 'em attention and ignore them instead. I believe that If we show Our anger, It'll just entertain them and give them a reason to tick us off with more of their none-sense junk.
Ya Allah! You're the guider, The most merciful, The Oft-forgiving, Our Light, so please Show these wrong-doers the right path! Aameen.

I think it's clear that we have to do something against such things.
But how the ones did it in the video is wrong.Since when did muslim become so disorganized.
There are surely other way's that would have solved the problem.

But thinking about it would any of the sahabah let anyone drawing an arab and saying this is Muhammed (as) get away with it.

Think about what Khalid Ibn Walid,Omar,Abi Bakr,Hamza,Ali etc.. would have done?
