How to explain worshipping towards Kabbah is not idol worship?

Salaam,

I am wondering how to explain to a non-muslim that facing the Kabbah while praying is not idol worship. Or the kissing of the stone?
As muslims, we consider praying towards the crucifix like Christians, or praying to a statue of Ganesha like the hindus... to be idol worship... So how do we explain that facing the Kabbah is different?

Thank you!

Assalamu Alykum Warahmatullahe Wabarakaathuh sister.

As for your question about how to explain that (as Muslims,) our facing towards al Kabah is differant from idol worship is that we Muslims do not take al Kabah as being a diety or being our Lord (Allah Subhanahu Wata Alla); while when the Christians and Polytheists face towards Esa (AS) or towards their stone idols; they DO take them as a diety and as their Lord; they say in their hearts that these people and beasts (out of their own imagination) are their Lord; while as Muslims we beleive that our Lord Allah Ta Alla rules on his throne over the heavens and the Earth; and that none can ever see him (only the Pious Mumins/Muminahs feel his prescence infront of them; and they feel their Lord as being some kind of beautiful Light; Majestic and High over his throne).

And also; as Muslims we are NOT worshipping al Kabah; we are just FACING it. We Muslims need a specific place to face during our Salat; and as many would think, "Aren't we supposed to worship Allah Ta Alla?" Well yes; as Muslims you have to worship Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta Alla; but can you face towards Allah (Glorified and Exalted is he)? No you can't. And if we Muslims weren't facing towards al Kabah; then our direction of prayer would have gone towards other things (mountains, trees, homes, etc.) if al Kabah wasn't there.

And also yes we do face al Kabah in Salat (prayer) to Allah Ta Alla; but our hearts go to him; our feelings of being close to our Lord and our feelings of Love go to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta Alla; NOT al Kabah.

And to Allah Ta Alla belongs all Praise; for there is none worthy of Worship but him.

May Allah Ta Alla reward you sister and make you be the most Pious Muslimah of your family; and give you the greatest beauty; the true and extreme Love to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta Alla and to Rasulallah (SAW); because this beauty only the greatest queens (The Muslimahs, the one who Allah Ta Alla has honored and Loves [and beautified] over all the other women that he has ever created) in the Earth and the Heavens; and those Queens who have the Pleasure of their Lord are Loved by the Angels in Jannah; and those Queens will sit on their thrones in their palces in Jannah; and have beauty that no Hurl Yeen ever has (Love for Allah Ta Alla and also an outside beauty that Allah Ta Alla has promised). And may Allah Ta Alla multiply your Ajr, Rank, and Status in Jannah by the ten thousands sister; and may he bless you with beautiful Pious Children who follow the teachings of Rasullah (SAW) and who will be knowledgable in Islamic Ilm and who shall become great Scholars of our Ummah; and also sister may Allah Ta Alla bles you with a beautiful and handsome husband; a husband who is steadfast; piousl and rightous; a husband who Loves Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta Alla; a husband who is very knowledgable (in Islamic Ilm); and a husband who Loves and is dutiful and caring towards his wife and desires no other women but her, for verily to our Lord belongs all praise! Ameen Ya Zal Jalaly Wal Ekram!

you can tell thim this: ALLAH SWT has made the entire world as a masjid for mankind. the kaaba is in the area where ALLAH SWT deems as sacred. the kaaba is the beginning of the masjid of the world and we are just standing right outside of it even if we are at all corners of the earth.

:salam2: Sister,

Before I begin with the answer I would like to tell you that there will always be people who would question everything. If there wont be The Kaabah they might be asking you about bowing to the earth :)

There are major differences between the two.

1. We do not worship the Kaabah neither believe it to be a deity nor an avatar nor that it is divine while the idol worshipers believe there idols to be deities or avatars of deities or divine.

2. We do not ask Kaabah for anything. The idol worshipers ask from their idols.

3. We believe it to be a creation separate from the Creator and we do not worship any creation.

4. We do not believe that Kaabah represents Allah or is a replica of Him.

Allah says in the Quran, and this is the clear proof from the Quran itself.
And (remember) when We showed Ibrâhim (Abraham) the site of the (Sacred) House (the Ka'bah at Makkah) (saying): "Associate not anything (in worship) with Me, [Lâ ilâha ill-allâh (none has the right to be worshipped but Allâh), and sanctify My House for those who circumambulate it, and those who stand up (for prayer), and those who bow (submit themselves with humility and obedience to Allâh), and make prostration (in prayer);" (26)
So even when Ibrahim (PBUH) was only shown the place to built the Kaabah the message that ""Associate not anything (in worship) with Me, [Lâ ilâha ill-allâh (none has the right to be worshipped but Allâh), and sanctify My House" was given and stressed upon so there remain no doubts as to what Kaabah is.

At the time of the Prophet, people even stood on the Kaabah and gave the ‘adhaan’ or the call to prayer. One may ask those who allege that Muslims worship the Kaaba; which idol worshiper stands on the idol he worships?

We simply face towards it during the Salah as Allah has ordained us to do.
Verily! We have seen the turning of your (Muhammad's SAW) face towards the heaven. Surely, We shall turn you to a Qiblah (prayer direction) that shall please you, so turn your face in the direction of Al-Masjid- Al-Harâm (at Makkah). And wheresoever you people are, turn your faces (in prayer) in that direction. Certainly, the people who were given the Scriptures (i.e. Jews and the Christians) know well that, that (your turning towards the direction of the Ka'bah at Makkah in prayers) is the truth from their Lord. And Allâh is not unaware of what they do. (144)
Regarding the black stone, hajr-e-aswad, there is a hadith (tradition), attributed to the illustrious companion of the Prophet Muhammed (pbuh), Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).
According to Sahih Bukhari, Volume 2, book of Hajj, chapter 56, H.No. 675. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I know that you are a stone and can neither benefit nor harm. Had I not seen the Prophet (pbuh) touching (and kissing) you, I would never have touched (and kissed) you".

MashaAllah, there are nice responses given by brothers and sisters.

I just wanted to point out something. Bilal (RA), used to get on the top of the Kaba and call Adhan, which clearly refutes the claim we worship the kaba.
Why would people step on the object of their worship? Does not make any sense whatsoever!
Kaba is distinguished by the virtue of its sacredness, that's all. There are other sacred places, it does not mean we worship them.
This is very stupid. Too much for the Muslim mind!

^Assalamu Alykum Bhai. Can you eplain what you mean by your last statement; because I think that the brothers and sisters here might misunderstand what you were trying to say, because I know that you weren't saying anything bad about anyone; but it couldmislead someone.

Glory Be To Allah,
Eventhough this threat already four mths back, as a humble slave of Allah i feel the more i learn the more i dont know. It's Allah Command that make us all united.
As Allah is One so we must pray to only one direction that is Ka'ba. Otherwise as human being we always make errors and if no Command from Allah we tend to choose only to our favorite spots only and later become shirk na'udzubillah. Alhamdulillah we all facing the Ka'ba and it makes Islam perfect, ameen.
