New Revert 2010
As Salamu 'Alaykum,
Alhamdulillah!
I had a very interesting day. This morning I took my wife to her doctor appointment which is about forty miles from our home. On the way home, in a remote area there was an old man hitch-hiking (Requesting a ride by putting out his thumb.). It was in an area where he had a better chance of freezing than getting a ride;so, despite my wife's objections, I pulled over and offered him a ride. He was going to the town we lived in and was very appreciative of the ride. The man was going through a hard time in his life and was obviously holding on by a thread. When we dropped him off, he thanked us and my wife admitted that it was the right thing to do. (The only bad thing was that the old man turned out to be six years younger than me! lol)
Then, this evening I went to a local store and the people were all trying to get to the check out line first. I took my place in line behind a middle aged guy. He had obviously forgot something and left the line. I should have moved up, but I wanted to see what he did when he came back and since there wasn't anyone behind me, I saw no harm. Sure enough, he returned and stepped back into the place he had left without any acknowledgment that he had left the check out line and did additional shopping. At certain times in my past this would have provoked a response from me, but I just laughed to myself and allowed him to disregard common courtesy.
After I checked out, a man approached me and asked me if I was driving. I told him yes and he asked if I would be so kind as to drive him to a store six miles away to get a microwave oven. I had nowhere else to be; so, I said sure (Thinking that perhaps there was a bulletin board that I didn't know about that posted individuals willing to give free rides.
I was interested to see how this turned out. The man got his microwave oven and handed me twenty-five dollars. I asked what that was for and he said it was for giving him the ride. I told him it wasn't necessary, but he was adamant that I take the money.
Naturally, when I showed my wife the twenty-five dollars, she immediately snatched it from me and told me that it was a blessing from Allah for the good deed I had done earlier in the day. I agreed that I believed all the circumstances seemed to indicate that she was correct and asked her why she got to keep the money. She told me because I loved her and wanted her to have it. We joke like that often. It is kind of a game we play where I show her money and she grabs it and I act surprised and shocked.
Anyway, there is a verse in The New Testament that reads as follows:
Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
I hope to gradually find sayings, Insha Allah, in Al Quran, and from the Hadith and Sunnahs because it is a pleasant way of thinking and speaking to think and speak in "Scriptures."
I never do good deeds for rewards for I know that Allah will provide all my needs. I only share this story to show that even the simply things can be seen to glorify Allah if we take time to see.
Alhamdulillah!
