International Burn the Koran Day

This is absolutely atrocious and we need to make our voices heard so that our Ummah can be represented. There are already non-Muslims against this campaign and although we appreciate their efforts on our behalf, we should not rely on them to solely speak for us. Therefore, we must make it a priority to voice our opinion that this campaign MUST be stopped.

Please remember that when we are speaking to those outside of our faith, we are representing ourselves and our faith. We want people to know that Muslims are an educated and cultured people who are very well capable of handling their matters with etiquette and class. We've seen what happens when Muslims are viewed as barbarians when violently opposing an anti-Islam campaign of some sort. As a result, we must remember that even though we need to exercise our voices, we must do so with the utmost care and caution because we are definitely being watched, not only by the masses, but by Allah SWT as well.

Miami FL, July 20, 2010 - The American Muslim Association of North America (A.M.A.N.A.) strongly condemns Pastor Wayne Sapp’s call for an International Burn the Koran (Qur’an) day to be carried at the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, FL on September 11, 2010.

This vicious call to desecrate and burn the Qur'an is tantamount to a hate crime and should be vigorously opposed by all legal means possible such as:

1. Reporting his Facebook page to the page administrators:

2) People desacrate holy books all the time, including the Holy Qur'an. Did you ever hear about the "smut for smut" program in Texas? People brought in Bibles and Qur'ans for naked magazines :/ We can safely say the holy books collected were desecrated in some way. It's a terrible and sad situation, those Qur'ans could have gone to reverts who need a Qur'an for free. But what can we do? These acts are protected by freedom of speech. As long as no PERSON is hurt.

It's a double edged sword, these freedoms protect terrible acts like THAT but also protect us. For example, in Europe there is a witch hunt against Muslims. Banning Niqab, Hijab, banning Minarets on a Mosque...Do you think that will ever happen here? No, because the same freedoms that protect book burning morons, protect us. We must take it with a grain of salt.

3) Calling local governments is fine, but when Muslims get pumped over this, it's going to turn into "Draw Muhammad Day" all over again...Death threats. in my opinion, it's best not to publicize these things because it only makes us look bad.


What am I going to do?
What every Masjid in America should do, CONDEMN TERRORISM. Let the non-Muslims know that what happened on 9/11 was not MY ISLAM.

Under 900 people is still under 900 people. A number is still a number whether it's a high number or a low one. Plus, 9/11 is a few months away. If it's under 900 people right now, how long do you think it will take to reach over 900 in just a few months?

Did you read my post completely? Did you read the part where I said we must act with etiquette and class? Those that lashed out against "Draw Muhammad Day" were not acting with either. Being barbaric is clearly wrong but what exactly do you make of staying silent?

And how exactly are you going to do that? Sure you can start in your own neighborhood. But if you have the ability to make a difference in another neighborhood without even leaving your desk, why not exercise it? This IS condemning terrorism. Individuals who burn the Quran today will have no problem hunting Muslims tomorrow. Sounds like terrorism to me.

Cant agree more but people dont understand these things, wo should not be making a big deal of it by spreading ourselves like we did on Everybody draw Muhammad Day.
we should be condemning terrorism with the same force with which we condemn these acts , yes these acts are condemnable but we have to show that we r peace loving people. these type of acts cant dis grade Islam or us, we are strong MashAllah, and InshAllah we will win but we have to be pratical in our thinking rather than being emotional

Freedom of speech also protects them. Google "KKK Georgia" Only weeks ago, there was a KKK demonstration in my state. And the law HAD to allow it.

When anyone you call gives you the runaround and does nothing, it's going to boil them, leading to recklessness. Doing things like burning Qur'ans reminds me of an adult bully, they WANT us to react. Okay, to just tell them to stop, even by force is not going to work.
You need to dig deeper, as in, why are they doing this? It's no surprise why they plan to do this. I feel that instead of making phone calls which will lead nowhere, we should use this for Da'wah. Educate people that Islam does not condone blowing ourselves and innocent people up.

Something so simple, yet will reach MORE people than sitting around and saying its a hate crime, when its not if people are not if no people are harmed in this act.

I would say the #1 comment I get from non-Muslims is that we as a community are not doing enough to disconnect ourselves publicly from terrorists. As time approaches, I will get involved with sisters I know across the state to get this project in my mind moving.

I see where you are coming from, and I think your efforts are in the right place. I just dont think it's going to do anything. All I wanted to do, was propose an alternate option to making phone calls & reporting a facebook page, which you can do if you feel it will be fruitful.

This is the smart response. And not purely based on emotion?

Remember that man that came and desecrated the Mosque in Madina, and only the Prophet (saw) knew about it, and he kept the mans secret and cleaned it up?

Anas Ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "Whilst we were in the Mosque with the Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, (may Allaah exalt his mention) a Bedouin came and stood urinating in the Mosque. The Companions of the Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, said, 'Stop it! Stop it!' and were about to attack him. But the Messenger of Allah , sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, said, 'Do not interrupt him; leave him alone.' So they left him until he had finished urinating, then the Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, called him and said to him, 'In these Mosques it is not right to do anything like urinating or defecating; they are only for remembering Allaah, praying and reading Qur'aan,' or words to that effect. Then he commanded a man who was there to bring a bucket of water and throw it over the (urine), and he did so." (Muslim)

There were not a 100,000 mosques in the world at time either. Letting him urinate in this one shows how much restraint a person must have.

Anyways, the Danish cartoon riots AND protests achieved nothing for the Muslims, except more negative publicity. There are quieter and more effective ways to show your disapproval of actions like this.

Muslims had nothing to do with 9/11.

As it has been legislated in the US as to the elements that constitute a hate crime..this should be reported.

Finally, we are not bound by anything but our intentions. Therefore, if one chooses to participate in a suitable manner let them and if one refrains let them.

I read your posts and I don't agree with who said we shouldn't pay " more " attention for them , I know if we pay attention for this it will make them happy because this is actually what they want but in the contrary side if we ignore them , our silence will encourage them to give more insults against Islam ..
What I'm gonna to do in sha'a Allah to report FB page and youtube , I also will try my best to open people's eyes on the real facts , that September 11th isn't done by Muslims , Many proofs showed that it's done by the US itself !

You know when you have someone *childishly* dislike you and they try to make mean comments to you as you walk by..toss paper *balls* at you while you're sitting near them..or spread false nasty rumors about your hygiene or personal life???

What do you do when you face a person like that?

Do you pay them attention or ignore them?

Most of us try to stop them *initially*..but then learn that it's best to just ignore them..because you realize they're being *childish* and you don't want to stoop down to their level and pick up on the *childishness virus* yourself!..that's when you see that individual tire-out and just quit their games..because they don't have the necessary attention from you to feed off of!

This *same* possible scenario can be applied to all these Islamophobes!

There's an Arab saying which seems rather comical at first glance..but carries a deeper meaning when contemplated..it goes..

"Neglect tears the loins"

It just show that *ignoring* those who harass you..can be so powerful that it would literally cause them to be *ill*

Let's just take advantage of the principle hidden within this saying..and ignore all these attempts..tearing the Qura'an won't stop people from believing in Islam..or learning about it..on the contrary..many idiotic acts of this sort have made more people convert to Islam in the recent years..and that's only due to Allah's Mercy...

I evaluate that this topic would probably bring unneeded attention to this childish and barbaric act..though a pure and good intention has filled the initiation of this thread..I think it can very quickly become a quick *ad* for it..which might bump up the numbers of those participating in it..or worst yet..those spreading it around..thus I will go ahead and close the thread with all due respect to your intention sister ShahnaZZ
