Asslamo Allaikum,

I am just a humble student of Qur'aan and Sunnah and recently read Muhammad His Life based on Earlier Sources (by Martin Lings (RA))...

I am not a Scholar but I found this book about the life of Rasul-ullah (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) deeply disturbing and in contradiction with other books on Seerah and also with Saheeh Ahadeeth.

I have been told that this book is very popular amongst Reverts and has been translated into 12 languages; I would advise ALL to consult a reliable scholar BEFORE reading it.

Allahu Ta'ala Aalam.

P.S: Since I am not a Scholar; I hold my judgement.

P.P.S: I must say that the literary style and lucidity of the text is Superb.

W-Salam Sister,

I am going to try to relate a few things from memory:

1) The books talks about Abu Talib; uncle of Rasul-ullah (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) reading the Kalima (heard by Abbas (RA) ) while Ahlus-Sunnah Wal-Jamaah believe that Abu-Talib DID NOT become Muslim till the end and we have Saheeh Ahadeeth to state that he will be punished in the fire of Hell

2) It says that Kabah is called “Kabah (Cube)” due to it’s CUBE-LIKE structure; we know that it wasn’t cube-like (rather it was rectangular) as built by Ibraheem (AS)

3) It talks about Ibraheem (AS) having two centres of religion (i.e. Jerusalem & Makkah) & I think this is blatant attempt to unify religions (or something) because Qur’aan definitely talks about Kabah as being the centre and Allah (SWT) commanded Ibraheem (AS) to build Kabah...Qur'aan & Hadeeth don't talk about Ibraheem (AS) having two centres!

4) The book talks about Rasul-ullah (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) being of average strength when we know from Saheeh Ahadeeth that Rasul-ullah (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) wrestled with Rukana (one of the strongest men in Arabia) and floored him three times

5) It talks about the eyes of Rasul-ullah (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) being black, light brown or even grey! We know that Rasul-ullah (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) had jet black eyes

6) The book talks about Umm Al-Fadl (Abbas(RA)’s wife) BEING closer to Rasul-ullah (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) then his uncle Abbas (RA); I think this is pure speculation as the role and closeness of Abbas (RA)’s to Rasul-ullah (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) is well known in Seerah

7) The book talks about Rasul-ullah (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam)’s saw things in Meiraj through the eyes of Gibrael; however Ahlus-Sunnah Wal Jamaah believe that Meiraj (ascension to the heavens) was PHYSICAL!

I didn't take notes so that's all I can remember.

W-Salam,

You must have noticed about Abu-Talib's reciting the Kalima; that would have shocked any Muslim!

Maybe not the other bits and bobs.

The Sealed Nectar (Ar-Raheeq Al-Makhtoom)

Asslamo Allaikum,

As I said previously that I am NOT a Scholar and I am liable to err.

I would however recommend The Sealed Nectar (Ar-Raheeq Al-Makhtoom) by Shaykh Safiur-Rahman Mubarkpuri (RA) for all (Reverts, Born-Muslims, Non-Muslims etc.)

I attach a copy in English for all to read HOWEVER I must warn you that translation is NOT good & there are spelling mistakes; but hey! Its free! :)

I advise all to SPEND the money and buy the paper-copy as the translation is revised, lucid and accurate.

beware of Orientalis writer.

Thanks bro globalpeace for highlight this kind of situation.

im NOT a scholar 2.

just wanna interupted with my little knowledge..we must be careful with certain source that we read or getting the info for (e.g turn to last page and view their reference plus search for that author bio).there was a lots of orientalis writer that studying about Islam and manipulation it through words..but some managed to get Hidayah after doing their research.

i'm NOT sure about Martin Lings becoz 1st i never meet him face 2 face, 2nd i never read his book BUT you can refer all his book from the URL below.BUT from his "book title" maybe we can get some hint's about his interest's the for e.g the shrik stuff like sufism..:astag: etc.

just be careful and it's advisable if we can refer to our scholar on this matter.

correct me if im wrong.

wa alaykum salam.

Yea i have this book, Masha'Allah it is really good. Haven't read all of it though  it's got a lot of detail. Way back from the situation of the Arabs, the Arab tribes etc... to the proper Seerah and it has evidences and everything. I too think it's best for reading about the Life of the Prophet Muhammad :saw:
