I log on the computer..there is a headline..Miss Michigan crowned Miss USA. I read on..Rima Fakih a 24 year old Lebenese American. I keep reading. She attended Catholic school and the family celebrates both Christian and Muslim holidays. She was asked a question about birth control and illegal immigration.
She is excited about the Miss Universe pagent. The internet is now flooded by her photographs. I was tickled by the absurdity of it all.

Beauty pageants in and of themselves are absurd but why is this more absurd? She's from a Lebanese Christian family - maybe with a Muslim parent or some Muslim family, but it seems like the strongest influence is from the Christian family.

whenever I log in yahoo and msn,uff...may Allah SWT just forgive me,I have to see something...like Aapa has mentioned...sometime so naked pics,that...what to say...so i've turned off pictures options..in my laptop.....for these cases,Gmail is verygood.

..I just read about the crown,not the name or anything else...from whatever family or whatever religion...my only pray for these ppl,May Allah SWT give them the Hidayah.
What else can i/we pray for them,its not in our part to convey them the msg of Islam,only Allah SWT can do the miracle.

Why would any girl in her right mind want to do this. That is beyond me.
What I am having difficulty with is the duality of her life. I knew nothing about her until I log on to my computer. I do not need to read about a Christian/Muslim girl doing pole dances. Please let me drink my coffee in peace.
Anytime I read the word Muslim you know I am going to read the article. I find it an oxymoron because you can not be a Muslim and indulge in beauty pagents. If you are Christian, it is none of my business. Please do not bring Islam into this, let alone in Las Vegas.
You can not be both worlds. You can not celebrate Muslim holidays when you are sliding down poles to amuse men..that is wrong. I need a refill on my coffee.

Isn't miss USA the one run by Donald Trump? They put pictures up that they were using this year to promote the pageant... Lets just say I was shocked, and I'm rarely ever shocked anymore. I'm really surprised that a girl would refer to anything Muslim, after taking the pictures they did.

Like Kayleigh said, she sounds like her main influence is her Christian family.

Good old Donald was there. It makes sense for him to be there. I think this is a left over from my days of being a superfeminist..we have minds..we can think...we can survive..we assist you and after all the ranting and raving and getting better benefits I am watching girls win for strutting their bodies.

What did I do all that work towards..the protesting..the screaming...the demanding of equal pay...the marching towards women being admitted into engineering programs...and I am sitting here jobless...I am actually smiling now.

I read a little about her and its sad because she's so beautiful and also seems to be smart - she's got her degree in economics and is going to law school. But as smart academically as she may be it appears she is only falling back on her looks. That won't last her forever.

An oxymoron is a phrase that contradicts itself. Not a good example, but when I was in the military, we would refer to "military intelligence" as an oxymoron ;)

jumbo- shrimp is a simple oxymoron to remember.

She is beautiful. As are all women.

Haha, you amuse me so. You remind me of a good Muslimah friend I have in real life, it's uncanny :p

Anyway, anytime i see Muslim or Islam in a newsarticle, I read it too. To see what kind of bile they want to spill now. It's rarely anything positive.

No offense at all ;) My husband was MI for a short time, and I used to tease him a lot :)

I just thought of another one. I have a bachelor's degree in journalism... And one of the classes I had to take was "Media Ethics". If that's not an oxymoron, I don't know what is ;)

Sweet Sister Asja we are just having fun. I posted because I read the word Musim in a news item. It caught my attention. I got silly with the notion of having a sex bomb celebrating Musim holidays. And now we are just listing silly word phrases that are totally contraditory. This is not a serious post. It is just a little laughter. Please forgive me if I have been rude.

My favorite is government worker. I lived in the DC area most of my life. Tax return is enough to make me postal. I filed in the first week of January and I am still waiting for the mailman. Tax returns are in the hands of government workers.

This was not to be serious. It had little purpose but to help us think of how we have to watch our words. I enjoyed it. It also helps those who are not American understand how we think. I apologize if this was rude.
