See.. Things like this is what make it hard to get people interested in Islam.. Some will put some many restrictions and obtacles in place that will make a non-believer who's interested in Islam say "forget it." How are we going to gain new reverts into the true faith of Allah if we keep placing hurdles in their way?? Instead of placing so much importance on silly stuff why can't we focus on the big picture and the huge issues facing our ummah?

May Allah guide us all to the right path.. Ameen.

i feel like i have to agree with my brother, I feel like all these things come over time if we are so strict on someone that just embraced islam it will be very hard thats what i think cuz i know some new reverts and they feel really discouraged and go away from Islam thinking how can we even live cuz we r putting too much pressure on them things come from time

Exactly brother.. . Two weeks ago, I invited this Christian to lunch. He's been coming to every Friday prayer for a while. This is how I noticed him. During lunch, he basically told me that he believes in every aspect of the Islamic faith. He rejected all the Christian doctrine.. At heart he is basically a Muslim. Then I asked him; I said "Brother.. so what is preventing you from taking the shahada??" His answer was "He is not ready for all that committment involved" Other words, he thinks that there are many things in Islam that are too strict that is playing as a deterant for him to make the move.

Our deen is supposed to be easy ... .not impossible!!!!

Astagfir Allah...

Salam sis

What I believe is, you neednt go to the extreme. Putting them face down should be fine. Keep them in a closet and away. These should be fine. But of course, not to glorify them at any one moment at all. In sha Allaah

Hello,

I have taken pictures off my walls. Is it okay to have them in the closet? Also, what about DVDs and books with picutes of people - should I put them in the closet? Any and all information is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

:salam2:

I did the same thing I took all the pictures off my walls and looked around my house I was surprised of how many pictures of people and animals still have on books DVD’s magazines even my kids toys and books it's kind of hard to get rid of the kids books and toys that they play with or learn from for now I have to just keep them in there rooms and not in places where we pray

May Allah forgive and guide us all.

Salam Ladybug..

With dvds..books..images in educational books..I think it's unavoidable to have them (flip them over on the clear side like some suggested)..when it comes to images on walls and such..which we *personally* choose to hang up or down according to taste and what not..then it's best to keep them off..angels do not enter a home with images on walls ;)..I think stuffing them in a box or a glad trash bag and putting them in an attic or storage closet will serve the purpose..I would stay away from burning them..you don't want firefighters to hose you yards away or knock a door or two *down* because of a "suspected fire" lol

Take Care

This is not *silly stuff* akhi..there are hadiths regarding this issue..which frown upon the presence of images in homes and such..and if someone is willing to *make the commitment* then why shoot them down or confuse them by asking *why*?..we should be happy for them and say *mashallah* and encourage them to achieve *the best* of states..and sobhanallah guidance has nothing to do with *how we make things seem or sound to non-Muslims*..Yvonne Ridley thought of converting to Islam while she was amongst *The Taliban* and was *held hostage* by them..mind you..I do not need to remind you of how they're the most puritan (for lack of a better description) of Muslims..when Allah wills a thing it is between *the be* and *the it is*..conversions/reversions..fall under these wills..so we should be mindful of that :)

Maybe "silly" is a wrong choice of words. I wish you'd place some attention to the message I was trying to convey in my post. I have met quite a few people who will not take the step of coming into Islam due to issues such as the one discussed in this thread. This is the main emphasis of my post. It is not to call things silly.

Assalamualaikum brother,
I agree with you, I remember when I first got interested in islam and I found so many restrictions don't do music, posters etc etc. I got overwhelmed and gave up. But I got guided back to the str8 path alhumdulilah and I took everything easily and by time I gave it all up, but mainly we should focus on the big elements and key issues then the details.

some advice for pictures

mmmm i dont think burning books and stuff is good for the enviroment remember ALLAH has giving us trees so we can make good things out of them not to burn them . recyling is well know and it can turn anything into something plain so lets look at what we need to do so it helps us muslims in th future inshallah . oh maybe u can give them to charity shops at least it be goin to something with a profit and need for a certain someone surely ALLAH creates stuff so we can make good things from them. thanks . with pictures i quess a computer is really good cause u dont really need to store them and bring them out. its jus on the computer for a rainy day to be use and show people mashallah

Asalaamu Alaikum brother, we should NEVER have this kind of attitude towards Islam. Islam is made easy for us but it is US who make it hard on upon ourselves.

Pictures have always been forbidden then why do we produce them? Music has always been haraam but why do we listen to it?

Same can be said about MANY things that have been made forbidden but why do we do them?

It is US who are weak to temptations and evils so it is we who are making it hard on ourselves not the other way around.

Are you forgetting that this life is a test for us and that all of these things are there as a test which we will be judged on Qiyamat!

What Allah has made forbidden how can we question it or downplay it saying that it is not a big issue? Anything which is made forbidden and is practiced by Muslims is a big issue and to question it is VERY SEVERE.

There was a story of a scholar of Islam i think it is in Riyad us Saaliheen im not 100% sure. He was with his wife at night and he said "Why can't we NOT have a bath after intercourse like Christians do"! Allah got SO angry with this that after he died he recieved the grave punishment even though he was a scholar of Islam. Questioning that which Allah made haraam is very sad aswell as severe. We should HATE that which Allah has forbidden and Love that which Allah wants us to do. But to have this attitude is very sad indeed.
Allah guides to the straight path and those who Allah has given imaan to NO ONE can take it away and those who Allah does NOT give imaan to NO ONE can guide. Guidance is NOT in our hands.

There are more people turning to Islam than ANY other faith or belief and they don't get forced to convert but they look into Islam for themselves and EVERY aspect of Islam makes sense to them including this issue about Pictures.

There are MANY people who know Islam is the truth but MANY do not convert and do you think it is Islam or Muslims that puts them off? OF COURSE NOT! It is Allah who does NOT give them imaan in their hearts just like he did not give imaan to The Prophet (Saw) uncle Abu Talib who raised the Prophet (Saw) and did everything for him yet Allah did not give him imaan because ONLY Allah knows what is in the deepest region of our hearts.

So lets NOT question Allah's commandments or downplay them or say that they put other people off because what Allah has forbidden is the BEST for us and what he wants us to do is the BEST for us! He guides and gives imaan to others and ONLY he knows what is in the deepest regions of our hearts!Thos who he guides LOVE every part of Islam and if they don't convert then it is in Allah's hands but lets NEVER question Allah's decision if he does'nt give imaan to a person!

Islam is PERFECT and BEAUTIFUL in EVERYWAY possible way! Talk to converts and get their side of the story and they will tell you! Lets go into Islam FULLY and not fall into moderate or diluted Islam because there is NO such thing!

May Allah guide us to the straight path and let us LOVE his commandments and LOVE everything he said to us and take it to be the best for us because surely the one who created us knows what is the best for us! Ameen
