RAMADAN DONTS!
Assalaamu alaikum warahmatullah wabarakatuh beloved sisters and respected brothers,
I hope this reaches you in the best of health/imaan!
O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn) self-restraint, – [Quran 2:183]
We all have bad habits that we would LOVE to get rid of. Some things that kept us away from doing a lot of Ibadah. OLD habits that just wont go away. Maybe if we made a list of what to get rid of then we would achieve something for this blessed month of Ramdan inshaAllaah ta’ala.
1. Don’t listen to Music/ the so called “Islamic nasheeds”: Many of us have the habit of listening to Music…if not 24/7 then few times during the day. Concerning Music Allaah subhanahu wata’ala says: And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e.music, singing, etc.) to mislead (men) from the Path of Allâh without knowledge, and takes it (the Path of Allâh, or the Verses of the Qur'ân) by way of mockery. For such there will be a humiliating torment (in the Hell-fire).[Qur’an: 31:6]
So, let this month be the month to get rid of music and the Haraam it contains.
2. Don’t swear: Do you swear a lot? Or a little OR maybe just when you get mad? Make this month, a month to stop uttering those filthy words InshaAllaah. Just know that swearing does not make anybody look “cool”. So, lets refrain from swearing and any kind of vain talk. "And when they hear vain talk, they turn away therefrom and say: 'To us our deeds, and to you yours; peace be to you: we seek not the ignorant.' (The Noble Quran, 28:55)"
3. Don't waste your time watching TV/movies: We all have our favorite TV shows or movies that we never seem to get tired of watching. We waste most of our time just sitting and watching. Reported by Mu`adh ibn Jabal, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:“A servant of Allah will remain standing on the Day of Resurrection until he is asked about four things: his life and how he spent it, his youth and how he used it up, his property and how he acquired and managed it and his knowledge and how he utilized it.”
Also Allaah [subhanahu wata’ala] says in the Qur’an: “By the time! Verily man is in loss.”(Al-`Asr:1-2) In this month lets utilize our time in a more productive way since time is very precious in Islam.
4. Don’t say it if it does not benefit: Do you just happen to talk tooooo much? subhanaAllaah, there is nothing wrong with talking, but if your “talk” does not benefit you or the one listening…..just keep it shut! The prophet sala’alahu alahi wasallam said “Say that which benefits or stay silent”
5. Don’t argue: It’s always good to avoid arguing whether you’re RIGHT or wrong. We all know it gets heated up after awhile and now “everybody is shouting” cool down, and avoid arguing with your fellow brothers and sisters. Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Whoever does not argue when he is in the wrong will have a home built for him on the edge of Paradise. Whoever avoids it when he in the right will have a home built for him in the middle of Paradise. And whoever improves his own character, a home will be built for him in the highest part of Paradise.” [Tirmidhi]
PS: If you have ANYTHING to add to this list please do so....inshaAllaah it'll benefit all of us. :tti_sister:may Allaah subhanahu wata'ala bless you and guide you to the path of righteousness. ameen
