Is there any hadith that says we shouldn't marry in this month(Safar)?
My relatives in back home think that first 13 days of this month are unlucky and they don't start any work or even fix marriage dates in these days. My heart says there shouldn't be any unlucky days in Islam as all days are created by Almighty Allah. Just confirming is it innovation in Islam or any hadith exists regarding this.

People used to think that it is bad luck to get married in the month of Safar. Hence, Rasulullah [Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam] said, ‘There is nothing in Safar.’

From the above, we should understand that in the religion of Islam, no one month is month of sorrow, whether it be Muharram or Safar. (Tanjimul Ashtaat vol.3 pg.144)

To refrain from any act, marriage, journey, etc. in some months, Muharram,
Safar, etc. was a custom of the pre-Islamic era based on suspicion.
Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) condemned that by saying, 'Laa
Safara' (There is no evil in the month of Safar).

There is no restriction on marrying in any part of the year and neither does
any part of the year itself has any negative consequences.

and Allah Ta'ala Knows Best

JazakAllah Khairan brothers for sharing.
It is very difficult to convince our elders. Nevertheless, we can make Dua for them.

Empty Months!

Asslamo Allaikum,

In India and Pakistan we have inherited a lot from the Persians which had a concept in their Calender of "Empty Months".

For example in Islamic calendar Muharram has a whole bunch of events and then Rabiul-Awwal has a whole bunch of events...

I am NOT discussing the validity or authenticity of these months; just what the common people think...

In between is the month of Safar which people think to be "Empty" as they think that nothing happened in this month so they have a concept of not marrying or doing Aqeeqah in this month...

1) All umrahs of Rasul-ullah (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) bar 1 were done in Safar so its NOT empty.

2) Even if it was empty, Islam does away with unIslamic thoughts/ideas of best/evil/cursed time and months. It is a CLEAR unIslamic concept

You see when Hindus decide to get married they ask a Pandit to come in & do a "Mahurat" i.e. the bate of births/geneology of Bride & Groom (and their families) is taken and plotted against the star movements and then the best date time is taken for the wedding to take place. On that day the time is strictly adhered to...

There is no such thing in Islam.

In Islam as soon as you find a person to wed; you are encouraged to follow the Sunnah and perform the Nikah.
