well, All you have to do to be a Muslim is say: "I bear witness there is no God but Allah and his Mohammed is his Messenger".
As soon as you say this with your tongue and heart, you'll soon become a = Muslim
You dont need to change your name to anything... and all your past is Forgiven!
You can do anything that is Halal (Good) and you are recommended to keep away from Haram (bad). This is for your own good, not for anyone else's.
Dont overburden yourself with the details of rulings... take it one step at a time!
Better to be Muslim with a few sins forgiven... than dying non muslim and nothing is forgiven!
It is really the best thing that you want to become a Muslim, and I am sure that this will change your life.
There is nothing complicated to become a Muslim and accept Islam. Just read the Kalmaa by your heart, accept the supremacy of God and its individuality and promise yourself to become on the right path and do the thing which you think most suitable.
There is no probationary period you if you want you can say yourself a Muslim right now.

All your questions will be answered according to the Will of Allah. Keep that in mind...Time belongs to Allah and not us.
I strongly suggest that you post 20 odd posts and join the Sisters Section. You can ask questions regarding dressing and all sorts of odd things exclusive to women who are Believers.
Sometimes going to a masjid is a culture shock. It may be a good idea to call ahead of time..this could take weeks..and have a sister meet you at the masjid. There is little protocol in Islam.
In the meantime listen to the Quran. Quran Explorer is a good tool. Listen and watch videos on how to pray. Even when one listens to the Quran it has a physcial effect on the body.
