"Allah promised you the pleasures of the Hereafter, so do not be in a hurry and seek them in this worldly life as if you are cutting plants before their harvest time, while they are much better if you wait. Likewise, the pleasures of the Hereafter are so much better." [Imam Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah]

"From the perfection of Allah’s Ihsan is that He allows His slave to taste the bitterness of the break before the sweetness of the mend.

So He does not break his believing slave, except to mend him. And He does not withhold from him, except to give him. And He does not test him (with hardship), except to cure him." [Imam Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah]

His Salaah (Prayer) used to be very lengthy, with prolonged rukoo’ (bowing) and sujood (prostrations). His colleagues would criticise him for this, yet he never retorted back, nor did he abandon this practice. May Allah bestow His Mercy upon him. (Ibn Kathir about Ibn Qayyim)

Although Ibn Qayyim was from the Hanbali School of Thought, he actively preached against Taqlid [blind following] and took opinions and verdicts from the other schools himself where there was stronger evidence for a Sunnah. This did not always lead to others accepting him and often led to false imprisonment. Ibn Qayyim did not mind, prison gave him the ability to reflect on Allah's Creation, perform more Salah, read more Qur'an and spend time alone thinking about the greatness of Allah.

"A scholar said: 'To have patience means that one's common sense and religious motives are stronger than one's whims and desires.'

It is natural for people to have an inclination towards desires, but common sense and the religious motive should limit that inclination.

The two forces are at war: sometimes reason and religion win, and sometimes whims and desires prevail.
The battlefield is the heart of the man." [Imam Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah]

“You must be willing to change. You must be willing to break the deal you made with the devils within. You must be willing to leave the past and not be tempted to rebound when times are tough.

You must be willing to let go of everything and anyone that takes you back to your sins. You must be willing to have hope. You must be willing to have hope that you can change and that you will and that you will be better.

You must believe you are worthy of change and you are worthy of improvement and you are worthy of being the best.

You must be willing to set aside your negative notions about life, about hardships, about people, about things, about yourself. You must be willing to stop feeling sorry for yourself while looking at the world move around you.

Get up and make something of yourself.” [Imam Ibn al Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah]
