"Undoubtedly allowing women to mix freely with men is the basis of all evils. This is one of the greatest causes of punishment coming down upon everyone and of public and private affairs becoming corrupt.

Free mixing of men and women is the cause of much immorality and adultery, and it is the cause of general doom and diseases."

One of the greatest causes of general doom is the prevalence of adultery because of allowing women to mix freely with men and to walk amongst them making a wanton display of their beauty.

If the powers that be knew how much corruption it causes to worldly interests and to people, they would prevent it most vigorously. [Imam Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah[

"Righteous actions are only according to righteous intentions, and a good intention does not make something which is futile correct.

This is because intentions alone cannot make an action correct, but rather complying with the Sharee’ah (Prescribed Laws) must be added to that." [Imam Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah]

“When a slave’s morning and evening is filled with spending time to worship Allah, Allah will then help him with all of his needs and help him with everything he wishes. He (Allah) will also fill his heart with love to Allah for Allah, his tongue with Dhikr, and his body parts with obedience to Him.

But as for the one who’s morning and evening is filled with thinking about the wordly life, then Allah will let him take care of all of his problems, troubles and sufferings himself. He will take away the love of Allah from his heart and replace it with love for the creation, take away the Dhikr from his tongue and replace it with speech about the creation and take away obedience to Allah from his body parts and replace it with obeying and serving the creation.

He will then work like an animal to serve others.” [Imam Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah]

“If you do not find any sweetness and relaxation in your heart from a [good] deed, then you should suspect your heart.

Verily, Allâh is Ash Shakoor. That is, He must reward the doer of the deed for his deed in this world by a sweetness he finds in his heart, a stronger feeling of relaxation and a joy in his eyes.

If the person does not find these things, it means that something has entered upon his deed [and made it not correct and purely for Allâh’s sake].” [Imam Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah]

“The degree to which a person is helped and aided by Allah depends on the degree of his intention, drive, aim and hopes.

Help from Allah comes to people in proportion to their drive, intention, hopes and fears, and failure comes to them in like manner.” [Imam Ibn al Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah]

"Yearning for Allah and His meeting is like the gentle breeze blowing upon the heart, extinguishing the blaze of the dunya.

Whosoever causes his heart to settle with his Lord shall be in a state, calm and tranquil.
And whosoever sends it amongst the people shall be excessively perturbed." [Imam Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah]

Ibn Qayyim's book, 'Men and the Universe' is regarded as one of the greatest books of its kind.

Written almost a millennia ago, it's easy to follow detailed topics include embryology, astronomy, geography, history, zoology, anatomy, palaeontology and an assortment of others from the same author, who is otherwise known only to most Muslims today as a Sheikhul Islam alone.

“If you want to benefit from the Qur’an, gather your heart when it is recited (try to understand it), focus your hearing, and act like you are being directly addressed by Allah.” [Imam Ibn al Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah]

"Dua is one of the most beneficial cures and the enemy of fitnah (evils and trials), wards it off and treats it, prevents it to happen and cures it if it happens. Dua is the weapon of the believer.” [Imam Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah]

“As long as the tongue is occupied in dhikr, it will be safe from unbecoming speech and lies, because it never keeps quiet. Alike it is with the heart, if it is not occupied in love of Allah then it will love the creation.” [Imam Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah]

Ibn Qayyim both spoke and wrote at length about the relationship between rulers and subjects; particularly on the scholars and their role as 'those in authority' as mentioned in Qur'an.

His purpose was to educate and train Muslims to view and accept the scholars for who they are in accordance with the Qur'an and Sunnah. His speeches and writings asserted their virtues, noble position in Islam and the respect entitled to them from other Muslims below them.

He also emphasized however the strict, yet just conditions set by Allah to meet those requirements; namely that the Scholars act in line with the teachings, laws and rulings of the Qur'an and Sunnah, otherwise they are deviant and criminal.

The books where he expounded his opinions and rulings on the above subject included-

1. A'laam Al-Muwaqqi'een
2. Miftah Dar As-Sa'adah
3. Ar-Ruh
4. Al-Jami Li Akhlaq Ar-Rawaee Wa Aadab As-Sami

Ibn Qayyim said: “Sins leave ugly, despicable, and harmful effects to the heart and body in this world and the next that none know except Allah. From them is that one is prevented from knowledge, as knowledge is a light that Allah places into the heart, and sins put out this light."

“The intoxicating effect of loving this world is far more potent than the intoxication that results from drinking alcohol by a long way. The one who is intoxicated by this will not gain his senses until he is in the darkness of his grave, and [if he regains his senses] and the effects of this cease while he is living then he will surely appreciate the extent of intoxication that this worldly life can cause and that it is more severe than alcohol” (Ibn Qayyim)

“The love of this world and leadership is that which has filled the Hellfire with its inhabitants, and the practice of abstinence as it relates to the life of this world and leadership is that which has filled paradise with its inhabitants.” (Ibn Qayyim)

“Indeed, what kind of piety is there in a person who witnesses Allah’s sanctities being violated, his religion abandoned, the Sunnah of His Messenger (SAW) shunned, and yet remains still with a cold heart and a shut mouth? Such a person is like a dumb Shaytan!” (Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah)
