عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ رَضِيَ الله عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "مَنْ قَالَ السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ كُتِبَتْ لَهُ عَشْرُ
حَسَنَاتٍ، وَمَنْ قَالَ السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ كُتِبَتْ لَهُ عِشْرُونَ حَسَنَةً، وَمَنْ قَالَ السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ كُتِبَتْ لَهُ ثَلَاثُونَ حَسَنَةً".
أخرجه عبد بن حميد (ص 172 ، رقم 470) ، والطبرانى (6/75 ، رقم 5563)
قال الألباني: صحيح لغيره (2711، صحيح الترغيب والترهيب).
It is narrated from Sahl ibn Hunaif [RA] that the Messenger of Allah [SAWS] said, "Whoever says 'As Salamu Alaikum' ten good deeds are written for him/her. And whoever says 'As Salamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah' twenty good deeds are written for him/her. And whoever says 'As Salamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu' thirty good deeds are written for him/her."
Lessons from the Hadith
- Imam Al-Bayhaqi says, The name "Al Salam", He is the one is safe from all faults and
free from all defects, and this attribute is only deserving for Allah [SWT]. [Al-I'tiqaad]
- Allah [SWT] says in the Qu'ran, "When you are greeted with a greeting, greet in return with what is better than it, or (at least) return it equally. Certainly, Allah is Ever a Careful Account Taker of all things." [Surah Nisa:86]
