Tattered Qur'an

Salam

A question that I hope can find an answer here...

What is one supposed to do with a tattered/ruined Qur'an? My husband has a Qur'an in a ziploc bag on a top shelf that is old and got damaged beyond repair (I don't know how it got damaged, but things happen). He doesn't want to throw it away, of course, but it just seems sad to have it sitting there.

Any proofs would be helpful.

THanks

How to destroy old Quran?

:salam2:

Sister, I pray that you are well and in the highest eman. Jazak Allah khair for that question about how to deal with a Quran that is tattered. Many people may consider binning it, but that is a very big sin, and utter disrespect for the Book of Allah.

I have consulted a few scholars reguaring this issue and the answers from them was the same

1) You should try find a secluded location and bury it, where no body walks over the Quran (once you have buried it). This is quite difficult in Western countries.

2) Dissolve the pages on water so the writing dissapears.

3) The easiest solution is to burn the Quran so as all the words become ashes and are unrecogniseable. You may allow the ashes the scatter in the wind.

Assalamu alaikum,

Insha Allaah this would help.

Disposing of papers in which Allaah’s name is mentioned

Question:
Sometimes we have reading materials in Islam that we need to dispose. Some of them contain verses of the Qur'an in English. Some of them also has the word "Allah" in english. Please advise me on how to dispose them. JAzak Allahu Khairan

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

These papers can be put to good use by giving them to people who can benefit from them, or placing them in a library for that purpose.

If that is not possible, or the papers are not suitable for that purpose, then they may be destroyed by burning or by cutting them up so that the verses of the Qur’aan and the name of Allaah disappear, or they may be buried. If a few words remain there is no harm in that. There are machines that cut paper into long, thin strips (i.e., shredders), which may be used for this purpose. May Allaah help us and you to do all that is good.
