Brothers & Sisters...

I have come across a book which sums up the highlights and exceptional details of the life of the prophet (pbuh) in 477 Questions answered thoroughly by the author...

I have decided to translate 10 (or so) questions everyday or every other day inshallah..and post them here for all to benefit and earn some knowledge through (non-Muslims..you are included in this as well :))

I will begin tonight..and keep going until I finish all the questions if Allah wills for me to do so..

The questions begin with some very common questions (and their answers)..but they get more detailed the further we get into the life of Rasulullah..so if you feel the information are repetitive..stay tuned..a week or two from now you might come across something new :)

All I ask from you brothers and sisters is that you make dua'a for me to earn the ajer of this act and that Allah keeps my heart fixed upon His deen and that He (swt) makes my Iman strong and grants me what my heart seeks..

I also ask you to please refrain from *any* debates or off-topic discussions..if there's a mistake..or anything of the sort..my PM box is the place for that..so I kindly ask you to please contact me through it and point out anything you wish me to go over...

Other than that..I will be happy to take suggestions..recommendations..and take any questions (relating to the content) here...

Baraka Allaho Feekom & Jazakom Khaira Ajjaza'a

Don't forget to Learn & Enjoy :hijabi:

1. When & Where was Rasulullah born?
  • He :saw: was born on a Monday in the month of Rabe’e Al-Awal in Makkah.

  • There are several versions regarding the specific date but many give dates between 8-12 Rabe'e Al-Awal.

  • Abu Qitada related, “Rasulullah was asked about fasting on Monday, and he said ‘that is the day I was born on’” [Muslim]

  • Ibn Al-Qayyim said, “There is no doubt that he was born in the heart of Makkah, and his birth was in the year of the elephant”.

2.What is the lineage of Rasulullah?
  • He is Mohammad son of Abdullah son of Al-Muttalib son of Hashim son of Abdu Monaf son of Qusai son of Kallab son Murra son Ka’ab son of Lua’ay son of Ghalib son Fahr son of Malik son of Kinana son of Khuzaima son of Mudrika son of Eliyas son of Mudhar son of Nazar son of Ma’ad son of Adnan; who descends from Ishmael son of Abraham who descends from Noah who descends from Adam (peace be upon them all).

  • Ibn Al-Qayyim said, “He :saw: comes from a lineage that is absolutely the most honorable on earth”.

3.What is the wisdom behind Rasulullah’s honorable lineage?
  • His honorable lineage prevents allegations of him claiming prophethood to heighten his social status amongst his people.

  • Al-Nawawi said, “He :saw: is farthest from taking up dishonesty and closest to drawing people to him (i.e. make them fond of him)”.

4.Who is the father of Rasulullah and when did he die?
  • His name is Abdullah son of Abdul Muttalib (aka Al-Muttalib).

  • Rasulullah’s father became ill on his way back to Makkah on a merchants’ caravan and he died in Madinah and was buried there.

  • Ibn Al-Qayyim said, “his father :saw: died while his mother was still pregnant with him. [ Ibn Hajar affirmed this in “Fat’h Al-Baari].

  • Allah (swt) mentioned his orphanage by saying “Did He not find you (O Muhammad) an orphan and gave you a refuge?” [Al-Dhuha, 93:6]

  • Ibn Katheer said, “…and this is an orphanage of the highest degrees”.

5.What are some of the names/nicknames of Rasulullah and which ones are the most famous?
  • Rasulullah said “I have (several) names. I am Mohammad, and I am Ahmad, Al-Maahi (The Eliminator) through which Allah will eliminate kufr (disbelief)”. [ Agreed upon, narrated from Abi Sa’eed Al-Khidri]

  • Ibn Sa’ad added, “The Sealer (with whom Allah will seal prophethood)”.

  • The most famous of names are Mohammad and Ahmad

  • Ibn Hajar stated, “The most famous of the two is Mohammad, and it is mentioned in the Qura’an”.

6.How many times was Rasulullah mentioned by the name of Mohammad (in the Qura’an)?
  • He :saw: was mentioned in the Qura’an 4 times.

  • “Mohammad is no more than a Messenger, and indeed (many) Messengers have passed away before him.” [Al-Imran, 3:144]

  • “Mohammad is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the last (end) of the Prophets.” [Al-Ahzab, 33:40]

  • “Those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and believe in that which is sent down to Mohammad.” [Mohammad, 47:2]

  • “Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.” [Al-Fat’h, 48:29]

  • As for the name Ahmad, it was mentioned once through Prophet Isa (as) [Assafat, 61:6].

7.What are some of the distinguishable signs about Rasulullah?
  • Abi Amama narrated saying, “I said, O’ prophet of Allah! What signs are distinguishable about you? He said, ‘the supplication of my father Ibrahim (Abraham), the glad-tidings of Isa (Jesus), and a light my mother saw lighting the castles of Damascus’”. [Ahmad]

  • By “the supplication of my father Ibrahim (Abraham)” he meant:
-“Our Lord! Send amongst them a Messenger of their own, who shall recite unto them Your Verses and instruct them in the Book and Al-Hikmah (full knowledge of the Islamic laws and jurisprudence or wisdom or Prophethood), and purify them. Verily! You are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise”. [Al-Baqara, 2:129]

  • By “the glad-tidings of Isa (Jesus)” he meant:
-“And (remember) when 'Îsa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), said: "O Children of Israel! I am the Messenger of Allah unto you, confirming the Taurat [(Torah) which came] before me, and giving glad tidings of a Messenger to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmad”. [Assaaf, 61:6]

  • By “the light my mother saw lighting the castles of Damascus” he meant:
-Ibn Rajab said, “Regarding the light which shined through upon his birth … is a sign signifying the light through which the people of earth were guided and the darkness of disbelief/deviation was eliminated through as Allah said “Indeed, there has come to you from Allah a light and a plain Book. Wherewith Allah guides all those who seek His Good Pleasure to ways of peace and He brings them out of darkness by His Will unto light and guides them to the Straight Way”. [Al-Mae’eda, 5:15-16]

8.Which of Rasulullah’s uncles witnessed the revelation of Islam? And which ones accepted it?
  • Ibn Hajar said, “It is an amazing coincidence that the ones (i.e. the uncles) who witnessed Islam are four. Two accepted it and two did not. The two who accepted Islam had Islamic names and the two who did not had un-Islamic names. The two who became Muslim were Hamza and Abbas and the two who did not were Abu Talib (aka Abdu Monaf) and Abu Lahab (aka Abdul Uzza).

9.Who were the women who breastfed Rasulullah?
  • Thuwaiba (who was a slave owned by Abu Lahab). Some narrations claim that she breastfed him :saw: for a few days and in others it is claimed that she did so for 4 months. She did go embrace Islam and lived a Muslim for many years until her death.

  • Halima Al-Sa’adiyya. She took Rasulullah :saw: with her to her Badiya (Bedouins’ settling areas) and he lived there with her for 4 years before Halima returned him to his mother.

10.Where was Rasulullah breastfed?
  • He was breastfed in the Badiya (Bedouins’ settling area) of Bani Sa’ad which Halima Al-Sa’adiyya belonged to.

11.What is the wisdom behind the Arab tradition of breastfeeding children in Badiyas?
  • It was believed that this would strengthen the children’s bodies, and make them more likely to depend on themselves from a young age in addition to acquiring eloquence of speech.

12.What happened to Rasulullah in the Badiya of Bani Sa’ad?
  • The incident of “the tearing of the chest” took place.

  • Anas narrated, “Jibrae’el (Gabriel) came to Rasulullah while he was playing with children. He took him, laid him down, and tore open his chest, took out his heart :saw: and pulled out a leech-like material from it. He (i.e. Jibrae’el) then said “that is Shaitan’s (devil’s) bit of you”. Then Jibrae’el washed the heart in a basin of gold filled with the water of Zamzam then he put it back in its place and mended the spot. The other boys ran to his mother (i.e. his breastfeeder, Halima) and said to her “Mohammad had been killed”. [Muslim]
13. What did Halima do upon finding out about the incident?
  • She feared over the life of Rasulullah and took him back to his mother until he turned six.

14.What was the wisdom behind the incident of “the tearing of the chest”?
  • It holds the preparation of Allah (swt) of his servant and messenger Mohammad (peace be upon him) for divine revelation.

  • Allah (swt) protecting His prophet from the shortcomings of human-nature and the whispers of Shaitan (the devil).

15. What was the name of Rasulullah’s mother and when did she die?
  • Her name was Aamina bint Wahab.

  • Ibn Al-Qayyim said, “There is no doubt that she died between Makkah and Madinah in an area called Al-Abwaa’a on her way back from visiting her relatives”.

  • Rasulullah was only six years old when Aamina died.
16. What is the wisdom behind the orphanage of Rasulullah?
  • To stop enemies of Rasulullah and Islam from alleging that he claimed prophethood due to the instruction and guidance of his parents or grandparents with the aim of bettering his life.

  • To make him :saw: an example for orphans of all ages and generations so they would refrain from seeing orphanage as a detriment in their lives and a factor for them to never reach elevated statuses in life.
17. Who fostered Rasulullah upon the death of his mother Aamina?
  • His grandfather Abdul Muttalib.
18. What was the age of Rasulullah when his grandfather died?
  • Ibn Al-Qayyim said, “His grandfather Abdul-Muttalib fostered him and he died when Rasulullah :saw: was eight years of age, then his uncle Abu Talib fostered him”.
19. What happened to Rasulullah when he was 12-years-old?
  • His uncle took him on a caravan to Damascus and he :saw: was seen by Buhairi the Monk.

  • Abi Mosa Al-Asha’ariy narrated, “Abu Talib went out to Damascus with the leaders of Quraish and took Rasulullah along with him. Upon reaching the area of the monk’s dwelling, the caravan was stopped to get some rest. When the caravans stopped near Buhairi’s dwelling, he never interacted with anyone from them or even looked their way, but (this time) he walked towards Rasulullah, took his hand and said, “this is the master of the two worlds (i.e. human and jinn) who is sent by Allah as a mercy to them”. The elders of Quraish in the caravan said to him, “how is that you know?” and he (i.e. Buhairi) said, “upon the arrival of your caravan from Al-Aqaba, there was not (one) tree or rock which did not fall into prostration, and they prostrate (only) for prophets. Buhairi then said “I ask you by Allah, which of you is his guardian?” to this everyone said “Abu Talib” and he did not stop talking to him (i.e. Abu Talib) until he left.
20. What did Rasulullah work as before the revelation of his prophethood?
  • He worked as a shepherd.

  • Abi Hurrairah narrated, “Rasulullah said, ‘there was not (one) prophet who did not herd sheep’. Everyone asked ‘and you Rasulullah?’ He :saw: said ‘and I, I herded them upon qarareet (wild plants similar to leeks and alfalfa sprouts) which belonged to the people of Makkah”. [Bukhari]
21. What is the wisdom behind prophets working in shepherding?
  • Ibn Hajar said, “scholars said, that the wisdom behind the prophets’ inspiration to herd sheep before their prophethood is that it inures them to the duties they are to hold towards their nations, and it increases their patience and compassion”.

  • It is not immense for Allah to make available all forms of comfort to his prophet and dispense him from working towards earning a living. However, the wisdom of Allah decrees for us to learn about the excellence of earning a living through personal strives (despite status and identity).
22. Who is the first woman that Rasulullah married?
  • Khadija bint Kuwhayilid.

  • Ibn Al-Qayyim said, “…and she was the first woman he married”.
23. How old was Rasulullah when he married her?
  • He :saw: was 25 years of age, and this is agreed upon by scholars.
24. How old was Sayidatina Khadija (ra) when Rasulullah married her?
  • She was 40 years of age.
25. What are some of the merits of Sayidatina Khadija?
  • She was known amongst her people as “the chaste virtuous one”.

  • Rasulullah was ordered by Allah to apprise her of His greeting (i.e. salam) to her.

  • She was the first woman to accept Islam.

  • She gave birth to all of Rasulullah's children, except Ibrahim who was born by Maria the Copt.
26. Who are the children of Rasulullah?
  • The males were: Al-Qasim, Abdullah, and Ibrahim.

  • The females were: Zainab, Ruqayya, Um Kalthoom, and Fatima.

  • The sons died at a very young age (this is agreed upon by scholars).

  • The daughters witnessed the revelation, accepted Islam, and migrated with Rasulullah :saw:.

What about Taaha and Yaaseen? And Al-Mustafa and Al-Mukhtaar? And Abul-Qaasim?

There a lot more names of Rasulullah that can be listed actually..but I am translating what is in the book akhi..and in general I do not want to add anything which is not there for fear it would not be as authentic or credible and so I'm trying to stay as close to the content of the book as possible..but I guess the author wanted to give the names (Rasulullah) that are "rarely" known..it seemed like that to me..allahu a'alam..also the author has clearly taken *one narration* regarding the issue of *names*..

Jazaka Allah Khair for mentioning the names however..perhaps anyone interested in knowing the most of them would see the chance in your post

Baraka Allaho Feek :)

What about At-Tayyib?

Akhi...

I researched the last bit of info you put..to triple check that I have not missed any information regarding the nasl (children) of Rasulullah (saaws)..because I have NEVER heard of more than 4 sons!

At-Tayyeb is the nickname of ABDULLAH!..he's also known as At-Tahir!

so there's NO 4th son..there are only THREE sons (Al-Qasim, Abdullah aka At-Tayyib & At-Tahir, and Ibrahim)

At-Tayyib is *only* a nickname

Please read the fatwa below:

http://www.islamweb.net/ver2/Fatwa/ShowFatwa.php?Option=FatwaId&lang=A&Id=1699

The book is giving questions to establish "general knowledge" for its readers..

For example..most of the grandfathers' names of Rasulullah written in the lineage in my first post are actually secondary names and/or nicknames..in other words..they have *other* names as well..but that is a matter which is not written because it does not really add much to *the whole* purpose of the book (i.e. the bio. of Rasulullah) and I did not add because I realized this matter

Details of the sort you quoted above and I mentioned now..can be found through individual research which surely nobody is restrained from doing...because like I said the purpose of this book is to give generalized background information (with explanations..notes..and the like where necessary)...

I hope I have made this issue clear..and I apologize if I seem like I am going after you..I am not..I just like to *look into* any information given to me which I am *not sure* of or have not come across before...

Baraka Allaho Feek ala kolli haal wa shukran jazeelan

Jazaaki Allaahu Khayran. I was only wondering why those names were left out. I didn't want the fellows to think that's all there is.

Completely understandable akhi..baraka allaho feek for doing that :)

And to add to your list of names of Rasulullah...here are two more names:

Al-Haashir (الحاشر)
Al-Aaqib (العاقب)

(which are agreed upon)

Sister Muslimah, i did send u a PM regarding question number 1. I didnt want to write it here but I had to because it has been the reason of innovation these days i.e Celebration of birthday of Nabi(SAW) and doing silly other stuff on that day.

Sister Muslimah, i did send u a PM regarding question number 1. I didnt want to write it here but I had to because it has been the reason of innovation these days i.e Celebration of birthday of Nabi(SAW) and doing silly other stuff on that day.

:salam2:

I saw the message akhi..and I corrected what was in need of correction..but pardon me..the celebration of the birth of rasulullah has nothing to do with the topic here..as it is not mentioned..or even eluted to in any way..

If you mean *putting a specific date*..then rest assured that there's no harm in that..many scholars give the date by day..month..and year..in hijri & GREGORIAN!..

Also..I think many knowledgable brothers and sisters know that this matter is an innovation..and those who do not know or are unsure..can be corrected through personal instances on the issue or through *individual questioning and researching*..

Please go to question number 1 and check over the correction..I did not reply to your message..because I saw my immediate correction as being *sufficient*..
