A fifth passage in the Qur'an over this topic has an interesting theme to it, it reads-
"There is not one of the People of the Book who will not believe in him before he dies; and on the Day of Resurrection he will be a witness against them" (5: 159)
My question is do the 'People of the Book' [meaning the Christians and the Jews believe in Jesus (AS) as he should be believed in. The answer is no. This indicates it is not referring to a time that has transpired yet. Since the Qur'an is correct, we can then assume it is referring to a future event, namely when Jesus will return and then in the last days the Christians and the Jews will believe.
Otherwise every Jew and Christian would believe in Prophet Jesus (AS) before he or she dies. Is this happening, no it is not.
Arabic linguistics shows that this claim cannot be correct from a grammatical point of view either. The plural suffix hum is used in all those verses of the Qur'an that refer to the People of the Book (as in Surahs-Bayyina 1 and 6, Surah al-Hadid 29 and Surah al-Hashr 2.)
Yet the singular suffix hu is employed in this verse. This means that the verse reports that the People of the Book will believe in Prophet Jesus (AS) before his death – in other words, before his biological death at his second coming.
