The Correct Belief in Allah

:salam2:

The Correct Belief in Allah

Indeed Islam is the truthful and mighty religion; it is the perfected religion, and the chosen religion for mankind. Islam calls for us to submit to the one who sent Islam, and that is God, Allah. Muslims must believe in Allah, and worship him, and believe in everything he has affirmed for himself, while not making things up against him or believing in things that he never attributed to himself.

So therefore in this article we shall write about the correct way in believing in Allah, and this shall be helpful to many Muslims, since this is a very important matter, since you do not want to have an incorrect and innovated belief in the one and true God.

1- Believing that Allah is one

This is a very important matter, that we affirm and believe that God is one, not 2, 3, 4, or made up of 3 persons as the trinity says. It is basically the belief in tawhid, that God is one, having no partners, or helpers. The Quran affirms this in many places:

112.001
YUSUFALI: Say: He is Allah, the One and Only;

004.171
YUSUFALI: O People of the Book! Commit no excesses in your religion: Nor say of Allah aught but the truth. Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) a messenger of Allah, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a spirit proceeding from Him: so believe in Allah and His messengers. Say not "Trinity" : desist: it will be better for you: for Allah is one Allah: Glory be to Him: (far exalted is He) above having a son. To Him belong all things in the heavens and on earth. And enough is Allah as a Disposer of affairs.

So as you can see the Quran confirms that Allah is one, he is not made up of persons or any of that sort, hence we Muslims believe that there is one God and none else, and this too is repeated throughout the Quran.

Hence this is the first point, the first step in having the correct belief in Allah. However so there is still more that must be affirmed and believed.

2- Believing that Allah is the sole creator and the all powerful

Once you believe that Allah is one, that we believe in one God, it becomes incumbent to believe that all power, strength, and might belong to the one and true God. Everything you see around you has been created by Allah, the stars, the heavens, the earth, the sees, and the sun and the moon, all of these have been created by God. This also means that God is in control of everything; nothing happens if he doesn't will for it to happen. A Muslim must believe this, a Muslim must not believe in some other false deity that can somehow create, or protect them etc. This is repeated throughout the Quran:

040.068
YUSUFALI: It is He Who gives Life and Death; and when He decides upon an affair, He says to it, "Be", and it is.

As you can see Allah is control of life and death, to him belong these keys and no one else.

040.020
YUSUFALI: And Allah will judge with (justice and) Truth: but those whom (men) invoke besides Him, will not (be in a position) to judge at all. Verily it is Allah (alone) Who hears and sees (all things).

This verse shows us that the false deities some invoke will not be able to judge at all, meaning they are powerless, that all judgment belongs to Allah, not for their false deities that they invoke who can't do anything for them.

002.117
YUSUFALI: To Him is due the primal origin of the heavens and the earth: When He decreeth a matter, He saith to it: "Be," and it is.

As you can see, Allah is the one who created the heavens and the earth, logically this then means since he created and designed it, this means he is also in control of it, not the false deities or saints that some call upon.

003.109
YUSUFALI: To Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth: To Him do all questions go back (for decision).

Everything belongs to Allah, and if everything belongs to Allah, it means he is in control of everything.

There are several more verses that go on to show that everything belongs to Allah, and that he is indeed the all powerful and mighty, and that nothing is out of his power, and that nothing can take place without his will or permission. Hence a Muslim must faithfully believe in this fact which is affirmed in the Quran, to contradict it is a major sin and disbelief.

3- All worship and devotion must be for Allah

This is one of the most important aspects in the belief of God, that you single Him out alone for worship and devotion, and no one else. Simply affirming God's oneness, and that he is the sole creator and in charge of everything is not good enough if one does not affirm and carry out worship for Allah alone.

For instance the pagans whom the prophet Muhammad was sent to believed that Allah was the true and mighty God:

Say: "To whom belong the earth and all beings therein? (say) if ye know!" They will say, "To Allah." say: "Yet will ye not receive admonition?" Say: "Who is the Lord of the seven heavens, and the Lord of the Throne (of Glory) Supreme?" They will say, "(They belong) to Allah." Say: "Will ye not then be filled with awe?" Say: "Who is it in whose hands is the governance of all things,- who protects (all), but is not protected (of any)? (say) if ye know." They will say, "(It belongs) to Allah." Say: "Then how are ye deluded?" We have sent them the Truth: but they indeed practise falsehood! No son did Allah beget, nor is there any god along with Him: (if there were many gods), behold, each god would have taken away what he had created, and some would have lorded it over others! Glory to Allah. (He is free) from the (sort of) things they attribute to Him! He knows what is hidden and what is open: too high is He for the partners they attribute to Him! Say: "O my Lord! if Thou wilt show me (in my lifetime) that which they are warned against,- "Then, O my Lord! put me not amongst the people who do wrong!" (23:84-94)

So as you can see, the pagans affirmed that Allah was the all powerful and true God, however so their problem was that although they affirmed this fact, is that they set up other false gods whom they also worshipped as a means to get closer to Allah.

So hence it is incumbent upon every Muslim to worship and pray to Allah alone, not Muhammad, not Jesus, not Jibreel, not a pious man who died, nor a carved object you have invented as a means to get closer to God. Doing such acts is a major sin.

The Quran makes this point very clear:

003.064
YUSUFALI: Say: "O People of the Book! come to common terms as between us and you: That we worship none but Allah; that we associate no partners with him; that we erect not, from among ourselves, Lords and patrons other than Allah." If then they turn back, say ye: "Bear witness that we (at least) are Muslims (bowing to Allah's Will).

YUSUFALI: Say: "Truly, my prayer and my service of sacrifice, my life and my death, are (all) for Allah, the Cherisher of the Worlds:No partner hath He: this am I commanded, and I am the first of those who bow to His will.Say: "Shall I seek for (my) Cherisher other than Allah, when He is the Cherisher of all things (that exist)? Every soul draws the meed of its acts on none but itself: no bearer of burdens can bear of burdens can bear the burden of another. Your goal in the end is towards Allah: He will tell you the truth of the things wherein ye disputed." (6:162-164)

023.032
YUSUFALI: And We sent to them a messenger from among themselves, (saying), "Worship Allah! ye have no other god but Him. Will ye not fear (Him)?"

072.018
YUSUFALI: "And the places of worship are for Allah (alone): So invoke not any one along with Allah;

098.005
YUSUFALI: And they have been commanded no more than this: To worship Allah, offering Him sincere devotion, being true (in faith); to establish regular prayer; and to practise regular charity; and that is the Religion Right and Straight.

010.066
YUSUFALI: Behold! verily to Allah belong all creatures, in the heavens and on earth. What do they follow who worship as His "partners" other than Allah? They follow nothing but fancy, and they do nothing but lie.

Many more verses can be shown to show that all worship belongs to Allah and not others, worshipping others is major disbelief and will cause a person to become a loser in the here-after.

Conclusion

In conclusion We say that any Muslim who holds to this correct belief in Allah, then he/she shall be successful in the here-after, and will be of those whom Allah will bestow his mercy and grace upon. We urge all Muslims to strive to this correct belief to which surely you do, you all know that there is one God, that he is all powerful, and that he alone should be worshipped, this is the fitrah with which you were born, you know this naturally even before Allah commands you to do so.

And Allah Knows Best!

Believing in Allah's names and Attributes

We have previously discussed how to correctly believe in Allah, which is believing in his oneness, that he is the sole creator and the all mighty and powerful, and that all worship belongs to him. In this article we shall discuss another correct aspect in believing in Allah, which is believing in the names of Allah and the attributes he has given himself. This belief is very important, for instance to deny Allah's names is disbelief in itself, and denying his attributes is a major sin as well, since it is basically denying what Allah has affirmed for himself.

Believing in Allah's names:

In Islam we are taught the 99 names of Allah, however so we do not say there are 99 names only, we say that Allah has only revealed 99 of his mighty names.

His names are found throughout the Quran and the Sunnah, and a Muslim must believe in them all.

One of Allah's 99 names is As-Sami, or As-Samee, whichever way you want to spell it, the name means the All-Hearer, the one who ears everything, and the one who hears the supplications of his servants when they call upon him.

Another name of Allah is Al-Aleem, which means the All-Knower, that he Knows everything, that he is not ignorant of anything.

Another name of Allah is Al-Aziz or Al-Azeez, whichever way you want to spell it, the names means the mighty, the strong etc.

For readers who want to learn and know about the other 96 names of Allah, then visit this link:
http://www.jannah.org/articles/names.html

Now a Muslim must not only believe in the name, but must also believe in the meaning behind the name, for instance all names have a meaning, they describe something, hence when Allah is called the All-Knowing we don't just believe the name, but believe the attribute, that Allah knows everything. Also when Allah is called the All-hearing we don't just believe the name and title, we believe its attribute that Allah hears all.

Now once a Muslim believes in these 2 aspects, in the name, and the meaning behind the name, he must then believe that these names are unique for Allah, that only Allah is the all knowing, that only Allah is the all hearing etc.

Believing in Allah's Attributes:

Now other than believing in Allah's names and the meaning behind them, a Muslim must also believe in the attributes of Allah to which he has given himself. For instance Allah has attributed two hands to himself:

SHAKIR: He said: O Iblis! what prevented you that you should do obeisance to him whom I created with My two hands? Are you proud or are you of the exalted ones? (38:75)

005.064
YUSUFALI: The Jews say: "Allah's hand is tied up." Be their hands tied up and be they accursed for the (blasphemy) they utter. Nay, both His hands are widely outstretched: He giveth and spendeth (of His bounty) as He pleaseth. But the revelation that cometh to thee from Allah increaseth in most of them their obstinate rebellion and blasphemy. Amongst them we have placed enmity and hatred till the Day of Judgment. Every time they kindle the fire of war, Allah doth extinguish it; but they (ever) strive to do mischief on earth. And Allah loveth not those who do mischief.

So for this we affirm that indeed Allah has two hands as he himself has stated. However so we do not say that Allah's hands resemble our hands, for instance we do not say his hands are covered in skin, with bones and blood, to do so is disbelief. We cannot compare our hands to that of Allah, since Allah is unlike anything, and he cannot be compared to anything else.

So therefore whatever Allah has attributed to himself we leave it as it is, if he says he has hands we say he has hands, if he says he has a face we say he has a face. What we don't do is then compare or try to imagine how his hands are, or how his face is. Nor do we make metaphorical meanings saying his hands mean power, or his face means glory etc.

Conclusion
So a Muslim must affirm Allah's names, and the meaning behind the names, and that they are unique. A Muslim must also affirm Allah's attributes to which he has attributed to himself, a Muslim who follows this belief will be on the straight path and shall be given Allah's mercy in the here-after.

And Allah Knows Best!

Refuting Christian Misconceptions About The Islamic Paradise And a Brief Look At the Christian Paradise

This article's main purpose is to address four common misconceptions put forward especially by Christians regarding the Islamic concept of paradise.

The article will be divided into the following sections: -

Refuting the Misconceptions

-Refuting the argument that there is nothing spiritual about the Islamic paradise

-Refuting the argument that fornication and adultery is allowed in the Islamic paradise

-Refuting the argument that prohibited things such as wine is to be given in the Islamic paradise

-Refuting the argument that women will not get any benefits out of the Islamic paradise

A Brief Look at the Christian Paradise

Refuting the argument that there is nothing spiritual about the Islamic paradise

It is true that most of the descriptions of paradise in Islam may seem physical but we also do have spiritual pleasures...

Surah 9:72

Allah has promised the men and women of the believers Gardens with rivers flowing under them, remaining in them timelessly, forever, and fine dwellings in the Gardens of Eden. And Allah's good pleasure is even greater. That is the great victory.

We would be in the pleasure of God. Isn't that spirituality?

The most striking _expression of what believers feel when they win Allah's good pleasure is that He will manifest Himself to them in a way that they can see Him. This is impossible in the world because, as the Qur'an says: "Eyesight cannot perceive Him" (Sura 6, 10) But according to the Qur'an, in the next life and in a certain way Allah will manifest Himself to His believing servants. Only Allah knows how this will happen. But we are informed in the Qur'an that the believers' "faces that Day will be radiant, gazing at their Lord" (Sura 75, 22-23) and "'Peace!' A word from a Merciful Lord" (Sura 36, 58) will be heard. Believers will be "on seats of honor in the presence of an All-Powerful King" (Sura 54, 55).
In other words, the greatest possible blessing that believers can have is the deep sense of Allah's mercy and will. By winning His good pleasure, they experience a joy and a happiness that cannot be compared with any material blessing.

Actually, it is Allah's will that gives value to Paradise's other blessings. The same blessings may exist on Earth to a certain extent, but they have no meaning for believers as long as they surpass the limits Allah established.

CONVERSATIONS IN PARADISE

They will say: "Praise be to Allah, Who has removed all sadness from us. Truly our Lord is Ever-Forgiving, Ever-Thankful: He Who has lodged us, out of His favor, in the Abode of Permanence, where no weariness or fatigue affects us." (Sura 35, 34-35)

The Qur'an contains detailed accounts of conversations among believers, to whom Allah has given an exalted position in Paradise. These conversations are important, because they provide a good example for believers in this life. The verses: "They will hear no idle talk in it, nor any call to sin. All that is said is: 'Peace! Peace!''' (Sura 56, 25-26) show the importance of avoiding empty talk. Elsewhere, the same point is expressed as:

They will hear no idle talk nor any lying there, as a recompensation from your Lord, a commensurate gift. (Sura 78, 35-36) (Harun Yahya, Paradise: The Believers' Real Home, Source)

Saheeh Muslim

Book 040, Hadith Number 6787.

Chapter : There is in paradise a tree under the shadow of which a rider can travel for a hundred years and even then he would not be able to cover it.

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reported that Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) said that Allah would say to the inmates of Paradise: O, Dwellers of Paradise, and they would say in response: At thy service and pleasure, our Lord, the good is in Thy Hand. He (the Lord) would say: Are you well pleased now? They would say: Why should we not be pleased, O Lord, when Thou hast given us what Thou hast not given to any of Thy creatures? He would, however, say: May I not give you (something) even more excellent than that? And they would say: O Lord, what thing can be more excellent than this? And He would say: I shall cause My pleasure to alight upon you and I shall never be afterwards annoyed with you.

Book 040, Hadith Number 6797.

Chapter : The description of Paradise and the remembrance of Allah by the inmates morning and evening.

Hammam b. Munabbih reported: These are some of the ahidith which Abu Huraira reported from Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) and one is this that he is reported to have said: The (members of the) first group that would be admitted to Paradise would have their faces as bright as full moon during the night. They would neither spit nor suffer catarrh, nor void excrement. They would have their utensils and their combs made of gold and silver and the fuel of their braziers would be aloes and their sweat would be musk and every one of them would have two spouses (so beautiful) that the marrow of their shanks would be visible through the flesh. There would be no dissension amongst them and no enmity in their hearts. Their hearts would be like one heart, glorifying Allah morning and evening.

Aren't all these spiritual pleasures?

Refuting the argument that fornication and adultery is allowed in the Islamic paradise

Christians usually point out to verses in the Qur'an, which speak about how Muslim men would be able to have sex with the Houris in paradise. Then they exclaim that this is immorality. However, we must pay close attention to what the Quran actually says...

Surah 4:57

And those who believe and do good works. WE shall make them enter Gardens through which streams flow, to abide therein for ever; therein shall they have pure spouses, and WE shall admit them to a place of plenteous shade.

The word here is AZWAAJ. In Arabic, it means spouse.

Notice, the key word, SPOUSES. The houris will be our spouses. If a man has sex with his wife, is that fornication? No, of course not, she is his spouse.

So I ask you, if a man can legitimately have sex with his spouse here on earth, they why can't a man legitimately have sex with his spouse in paradise?

Refuting the argument that prohibited things such as wine is to be given in the Islamic paradise

Allah described paradise in a Qudsi hadith.

Saheeh Bukhari

Volume 009, Book 093, Hadith Number 589.

Narated By Abu Huraira : The Prophet said, "Allah said, "I have prepared for My righteous slaves (such excellent things) as no eye has ever seen, nor an ear has ever heard nor a human heart can ever think of.'"

So as we can see paradise is something that is not of this world. So when the Quran talks about rivers of honey that does not mean that it is the same kind of honey that we have in this world. Similarly, when the Quran talks about rivers of wine in paradise that does not mean that it is the same kind of wine that we have here on earth that makes you get drunk and do stupid things and gives you a hangover the next morning. No, not at all. God is just using these terms in order for us to try to imagine what this paradise is kind of like. So the wine of paradise is nothing like the wine of this world.

Furthermore the Quran says...

Surah 37:43-47

In Gardens of Felicity, Facing each other on Thrones (of Dignity): Round will be passed to them a Cup from a clear-flowing fountain, Crystal-white, of a taste delicious to those who drink (thereof), Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication there from.

Surah 56:17-19

Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication:

Ibn Kathir says in his commentary...

Allah refined the wine of Paradise from the bad effects of the wine of this world, which causes headaches and stomach aches -- which is the meaning of Ghawl -- causing people to lose their minds completely. So He says here:
(Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine) meaning, wine from a flowing stream which they do not fear will ever be cut off or cease. Malik narrated that Zayd bin Aslam said, "White flowing wine,'' meaning, with a bright, shining color, unlike the wine of this earth with its ugly, repulsive colors of red, black, yellow and turbid shades, and other features which are repugnant to anyone of a sound nature.

(delicious to the drinkers.) means, its taste will be as good as its color, and a good taste indicates that it has a good smell, unlike the wine of this world.

(Neither will they have Ghawl from that) means, it will not have any effects on them such as causing stomach aches. This was the view of Ibn `Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, Mujahid, Qatadah and Ibn Zayd. This is unlike the wine of this world, which causes colic and so on, because it is too watery.

(nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom.) Mujahid said, "It will not cause them to lose their minds.'' This was also the view of Ibn `Abbas, Muhammad bin Ka`b, Al-Hasan. `Ata' bin Abi Muslim Al-Khurasani, As-Suddi and others. Ad-Dahhak reported that Ibn Abbas said, "Wine causes four things: intoxication, headache, vomiting and urine.'' So, when Allah mentions the wine of Paradise, He states that it is free of these characteristics, as mentioned in Surat As-Saffat. (Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Source)

Al Suyuti says in his commentary...

wherein there is neither madness, nothing to snatch away their minds, nor will they be spent by it (read yunzafûna or yunzifûna, from [1st form] nazafa or [4th form] anzafa, said of one drinking, in other words, they are [not] inebriated [by it], in contrast to the wine of this world), (Tafsir Jalalayn, Commentary on Surah 37:47, Source)

So as we can clearly see, the wine of the next life is nothing like the wine of this life.

Refuting the argument that women will not get any benefits out of the Islamic paradise

Some people tend to argue that since men will get houris then what will women get? Shiekh Saqr says.

Focusing more on this issue, Sheikh `Atiyyah Saqr, former Head of Al-Azhar Fatwa Committee, adds:

"Here Allah mentions the Hoor Al`Een because in most cases men pursue women and not vice versa. As for women, Allah Almighty may marry them to any of the believers in Paradise, if they did not get married during worldly life, or He may compensate them by making them feel content with their position. It is also said that Allah may grant women some kind of beauty with which they will feel that they are better than the Hoor Al-`Een and that they are their mistress, so they will not love anyone other than their own husbands nor will they feel jealous of the Hoor Al-`Een." (Source)

The main reason why the Quran and hadith are stressing the fact that men will get virgin girls is because it more appealing to men than promising virgin men to women. Men have more sexual tendencies and therefore are facing a lot of difficulty (especially in the teenage years) to remain chaste. There are a lot of temptations in this world. That is why Allah keeps promising these virgin girls who are more superior to the women of this world to those that remain patient and steadfast. That way, this motivates the unmarried men to remain chaste and be patient because they know they have something better waiting for them in the next life. Because if they do not get it legally in the next life then they would get it illegally in this life.

These are some verses that show the equality that men and women receive when it comes to attaining the rewards of paradise.

Surah 3:195

So their Lord accepted their prayer: That I will not waste the work of a worker among you, whether male or female...

Surah 4:194

And whoever does good deeds whether male or female and he (or she) is a believer -- these shall enter the garden, and they shall not be dealt with a jot unjustly.

Surah 16:97

Whoever does good whether male or female and he is a believer, We will most certainly make him live a happy life, and We will most certainly give them their reward for the best of what they did.

Surah 33:35

Surely the men who submit and the women who submit, and the believing men and the believing women, and the obeying men and the obeying women, and the truthful men and the truthful women, and the patient men and the patient women and the humble men and the humble women, and the almsgiving men and the almsgiving women, and the fasting men and the fasting women, and the men who guard their private parts and the women who guard, and the men who remember Allah much and the women who remember -- Allah has prepared for them forgiveness and a mighty reward.

Surah 36:56

They and their wives shall be in shades, reclining on raised couches

Surah 39:34

They will have with their Lord whatever they desire; that is the reward of those who good.

Surah 43:70

Enter the garden, you and your wives; you shall be made happy.

A Brief Look at the Christian Paradise

How would Christians like it if we only focused on certain verses that talk about physical rewards of paradise and ignored the spiritual aspects like they do to us?

Revelation 2:7

7 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To those who are victorious, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.

Should I argue by only quoting this verse that the Biblical paradise is all about eating trees?

In this verse, Jesus promises the man treasure in heaven if he were to be generous...

Matthew 19:21

Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure (thesauros) in heaven. Then come, follow me."

The word thesauros could mean...

1) the place in which good and precious things are collected and laid up

a) a casket, coffer, or other receptacle, in which valuables are kept

b) a treasury

c) storehouse, repository, magazine

2) the things laid up in a treasury, collected treasures

Source: http://www.blueletterbible.org/cgi-bin/words.pl?book=Mat&chapter=19&verse=21&strongs=2344&page=

The Biblical paradise forbids marriage...

Matthew 22:30

At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.

This is awful, why would I not be permitted to live forever with my wife on earth in holy matrimony in paradise?

Christians speak about how they will continue to pray to God in paradise. This is illogical. Paradise is supposed to be a reward given to us for worshipping God on this earth. That is the test of life. How can the reward continue to remain being worshipping God forever and ever? I study for my exams and pass them so that I can graduate, not so that I can continue to keep on studying forever. Now this does not mean that worshipping God is a burden or unappealing. But if it was meant to be this way then God would have simply kept us on earth continuing to worship Him and not bother promising us a reward for worshipping Him. Since the reward itself is continual worship then we might as well continue living on earth and worshipping God and there would be no need of heaven since it offers nothing new to a God worshipping believer.

Lat Manat and Uzza- Does Allah have Daughters?

:salam2:

Lat, Manat, and Al-Uzza

One common argument or claim put forth by Christians today is that the Quran claims That Allah has 3 daughters, those daughters being the pagan godesses of Lat, Manat, and Al-Uzza. Such a claim is very strong indeed, but is there any truth behind this claim? Does the Quran actually state that Allah has three daughters?

To back this claim up, the Christians often quote one Quranic passage, and then think they have proven their point, let us quote this passage:

053.019
YUSUFALI: Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza,

053.020
YUSUFALI
: And another, the third (goddess), Manat?

Christians love to quote these two verses and then stop; the question we must ask such Christians is why do they stop there? Let us now quote the rest of the passages:

053.021
YUSUFALI: What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female?

053.022
YUSUFALI: Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair!

053.023
YUSUFALI: These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord!

So had the Christians care to carry on, they would see that Allah exposes them making such a lie! Allah tells them that they the pagans have invented these false idols, and that it is something corrupt. Let us quote Ibn Kathir's tafsir:

Refuting Idolatry, Al-Lat and Al-`Uzza

Allah the Exalted rebukes the idolators for worshipping idols and taking rivals to Him. They built houses for their idols to resemble the Ka`bah built by Prophet Ibrahim, Allah's Khalil.

[ÃóÝóÑóÁóíúÊõãõ ÇááøóÜÊó]

(Have you then considered Al-Lat,) Al-Lat was a white stone with inscriptions on. There was a house built around Al-Lat in At-Ta'if with curtains, servants and a sacred courtyard around it. The people of At-Ta'if, the tribe of Thaqif and their allies, worshipped Al-Lat. They would boast to Arabs, except the Quraysh, that they had Al-Lat. Ibn Jarir said, "They derived Al-Lat's name from Allah's Name, and made it feminine. Allah is far removed from what they ascribe to Him. It was reported that Al-Lat is pronounced Al-Lat because, according to `Abdullah bin `Abbas, Mujahid, and Ar-Rabi` bin Anas, Al-Lat was a man who used to mix Sawiq (a kind of barley mash) with water for the pilgrims during the time of Jahiliyyah. When he died, they remained next to his grave and worshipped him.'' Al-Bukhari recorded that Ibn `Abbas said about Allah's statement,

[ÇááøóÜÊó æóÇáúÚõÒøóì]

(Al-Lat, and Al-`Uzza.) "Al-Lat was a man who used to mix Sawiq for the pilgrims.'' Ibn Jarir said, "They also derived the name for their idol Al-`Uzza from Allah's Name Al-`Aziz. Al-`Uzza was a tree on which the idolators placed a monument and curtains, in the area of Nakhlah, between Makkah and At-Ta'if. The Quraysh revered Al-`Uzza.'' During the battle of Uhud, Abu Sufyan said, "We have Al-`Uzza, but you do not have Al-`Uzza.'' Allah's Messenger replied,

«ÞõæáõæÇ: Çááåõ ãóæúáóÇäóÇ æóáóÇ ãóæúáóì áóßõã»

(Say, "Allah is Our Supporter, but you have no support.'') Manat was another idol in the area of Mushallal near Qudayd, between Makkah and Al-Madinah. The tribes of Khuza`ah, Aws and Khazraj used to revere Manat during the time of Jahiliyyah. They used to announce Hajj to the Ka`bah from next to Manat. Al-Bukhari collected a statement from `A'ishah with this meaning. There were other idols in the Arabian Peninsula that the Arabs revered just as they revered the Ka`bah, besides the three idols that Allah mentioned in His Glorious Book. Allah mentioned these three here because they were more famous than the others. An-Nasa'i recorded that Abu At-Tufayl said, "When the Messenger of Allah conquered Makkah, he sent Khalid bin Al-Walid to the area of Nakhlah where the idol of Al-`Uzza was erected on three trees of a forest. Khalid cut the three trees and approached the house built around it and destroyed it. When he went back to the Prophet and informed him of the story, the Prophet said to him,

«ÇÑúÌöÚú ÝóÅöäøóßó áóãú ÊóÕúäóÚú ÔóíúÆðÇ»

(Go back and finish your mission, for you have not finished it.) Khalid went back and when the custodians who were also its servants of Al-`Uzza saw him, they started invoking by calling Al-`Uzza! When Khalid approached it, he found a naked woman whose hair was untidy and who was throwing sand on her head. Khalid killed her with the sword and went back to the Messenger of Allah , who said to him,

«Êöáúßó ÇáúÚõÒøóì»

(That was Al-`Uzza!)'' Muhammad bin Ishaq narrated, "Al-Lat belonged to the tribe of Thaqif in the area of At-Ta'if. Banu Mu`attib were the custodians of Al-Lat and its servants.'' I say that the Prophet sent Al-Mughirah bin Shu`bah and Abu Sufyan Sakhr bin Harb to destroy Al-Lat. They carried out the Prophet's command and built a Masjid in its place in the city of At-Ta'if. Muhammad bin Ishaq said that Manat used to be the idol of the Aws and Khazraj tribes and those who followed their religion in Yathrib (Al-Madinah). Manat was near the coast, close to the area of Mushallal in Qudayd. The Prophet sent Abu Sufyan Sakhr bin Harb or `Ali bin Abi Talib to demolish it. Ibn Ishaq said that Dhul-Khalasah was the idol of the tribes of Daws, Khath`am and Bajilah, and the Arabs who resided in the area of Tabalah. I say that Dhul-Khalasah was called the Southern Ka`bah, and the Ka`bah in Makkah was called the Northern Ka`bah. The Messenger of Allah sent Jarir bin `Abdullah Al-Bajali to Dhul-Khalasah and he destroyed it. Ibn Ishaq said that Fals was the idol of Tay' and the neighboring tribes in the Mount of Tay', such as Salma and Ajja. Ibn Hisham said that some scholars of knowledge told him that the Messenger of Allah sent `Ali bin Abi Talib to Fals and he destroyed it and found two swords in its treasure, which the Prophet then gave to `Ali as war spoils. Muhammad bin Ishaq also said that the tribes of Himyar, and Yemen in general, had a house of worship in San`a' called Riyam. He mentioned that there was a black dog in it and that the religious men who went with Tubba` removed it, killed it and demolished the building. Ibn Ishaq said that Ruda' was a structure of Bani Rabi`ah bin Ka`b bin Sa`d bin Zayd Manat bin Tamim, which Al-Mustawghir bin Rabi`ah bin Ka`b bin Sa`d demolished after Islam. In Sindad there was Dhul-Ka`bat, the idol of the tribes of Bakr and Taghlib, the sons of the Wa'il, and also the Iyad tribes. Refuting the Idolators Who appoint Rivals to Allah and claim that the Angels were Females

Allah the Exalted said,

[ÃóÝóÑóÁóíúÊõãõ ÇááøóÜÊó æóÇáúÚõÒøóì - æóãóäóæÉó ÇáËøóÇáöËóÉó ÇáÇøòÎúÑóì ]

(Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-`Uzza. And Manat, the other third), then Allah said,

[Ãóáóßõãõ ÇáÐøóßóÑõ æóáóåõ ÇáÇøòäËóì ]

(Is it for you the males and for Him the females) Allah asked the idolators, `do you choose female offspring for Allah and give preference to yourselves with the males If you made this division between yourselves and the created, it would be,

[ÞöÓúãóÉñ ÖöíÒóì]

(a division most unfair!)' meaning, it would be an unfair and unjust division. `How is it then that you make this division between you and Allah, even though this would be foolish and unjust, if you made it between yourselves and others' Allah the Exalted refutes such innovated lies, falsehood and atheism they invented through worshipping the idols and calling them gods,

[Åöäú åöìó ÅöáÇøó ÃóÓúãóÂÁñ ÓóãøóíúÊõãõæåó ÃóäÊõãú æóÁóÇÈóÂÄõßõã]

(They are but names which you have named -- you and your fathers) of your own desire,

[ãøóÂ ÃóäÒóáó Çááøóåõ ÈöåóÇ ãöä ÓõáúØóÜäò]

(for which Allah has sent down no authority.) meaning, proof,

[Åöä íóÊøóÈöÚõæäó ÅöáÇøó ÇáÙøóäøó æóãóÇ Êóåúæóì ÇáÇøñäÝõÓõ]

(They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire,) they have no proof, except their trust in their forefathers who took this false path in the past, as well as, their lusts and desires to become leaders, and thereby gain honor and reverence for their forefathers,

[æóáóÞóÏú ÌóÂÁóåõã ãøöä ÑøóÈøöåöãõ ÇáúåõÏóì]

(whereas there has surely come to them the guidance from their Lord!), meaning, Allah has sent them Messengers with the clear truth and unequivocal evidence. However, they did not adhere to or follow the guidance that came to them through the Prophets.

So as you can see these were lies invented by the pagans, they simply followed their own desires and ascribed daughters to Allah, and Allah rebuked and condemned for this since they had no authority to do so and it was a false lie. The Muslims and the prophet Muhammad destroyed all these idols, why would they destroy the idols had they believed they were the daughters of Allah? The fact is the Muslims knew this was a grave lie against Allah as Allah told them in the Quran.

And Allah Knows Best!

Islam on Lying!!!!

:salam2:

Examining the issue of the Prophet Muhammad allowing Muslims to lie

One of the most common claims thrown against Muslims is that the prophet Muhammad allowed Muslims to lie. Christians always like to go around claiming that Muslims are allowed to lie, and they often make these claims on their websites and sermons.

The Christians are guilty of intentionally distorting what the prophet Muhammad really said, since when we look at what the prophet said, it is nothing near the claims the Christians are making.

Now it must be said, that lying is forbidden in Islam, however so, UNDER 3 OCCASIONS, it is not. This point must be made crystal clear, that it is only under 3 specific circumstances in which a Muslim is allowed to lie, not like the Christian tries to make it seem, that Muslims are always allowed to lie.

These three specific circumstances are as follows:

Sahih MuslimBook 032, Number 6303:

Humaid b. 'Abd al-Rahman b. 'Auf reported that his mother Umm Kulthum daughter of 'Uqba b. Abu Mu'ait, and she was one amongst the first emigrants who pledged allegiance to Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him), as saying that she heard Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: A liar is not one who tries to bring reconciliation amongst people and speaks good (in order to avert dispute), or he conveys good. Ibn Shihab said he did not hear that exemption was granted in anything what the people speak as lie but in three cases: in battle, for bringing reconciliation amongst persons and the narration of the words of the husband to his wife, and the narration of the words of a wife to her husband (in a twisted form in order to bring reconciliation between them).

So as you can see, Muslims are allowed to only lie during battle, essentially in war. Muslims are allowed to lie in order to bring peace between two people, and also when a wife and husband are fighting with each other and they lie to bring about an end to their problems.

As you can see, there is nothing wrong or extreme about that now is there? During war, many people will lie; this is how war is, if an enemy comes to you asking you where you're other soldiers are, would you tell him? Off course not, and if you were forced into giving the enemy army some information, you would give him false information. This is something very common during wars, and is practiced by every single army and every practicing soldier yet no one says they are commiting a crime or something bad! How ironic American Marines who kill, rape, and bomb innocent Iraqis are hailed as heroes by many Christians in the west yet they have a problem with a command from the Prophet Muhammad allowing people to lie in war!

Also How more ironic it is, that Americans have no problems with the CIA and US military being taught on how to give false information to enemies during war, and see it as something very normal and okay, yet when Islam permits the same type of action, the Christian goes all crazy shouting out evil! Such double standards simply reflect the low character of such Christians, and I am ONLY referring to those Christians who use these double standards.

Any sane rational person would lie during war to save yourself, or your comrades, and only a fool would say this is something wrong.

The second circumstance, in which a person is allowed to lie, is when you want to bring peace between 2 people. Again, does this seem like something evil? If two of your best friends were fighting, and the only way to bring a peace between both of them was to make something up, would you not do it? Off course you would, and many of you have done so.

This is something very normal, and logical, and this is something any person would do. Your intention is not to cause problems; rather your intention is to cause good and peace, only a fool would argue saying to lie to make peace is bad. If a lie could bring peace and end war, or blood-shed, or violence, would you not lie to end it and bring the peace? Only an idiot would say no.

The third circumstance of when it's permissible to lie is when you are trying to fix things up between your wife or husband. Again, is this something wrong or evil? The majority of married people have lied to each other to fix things up, and this is a FACT, yet no one has a problem with it or cries out evil! Yet when Islam allows such a rational act, the Christians go mad. Remember, the intention of this is something good, not to bring evil, you are doing this to fix your marriage, and to reconcile things, you are not doing this to do bad things.

Now it must be said, Muslims cannot use this hadith to always lie to their husbands and wives intentionally, no, it is only when your intention is to really fix things up, then you can commit the lie. You cannot commit the lie to simply help yourself, and then go back to doing bad things, and lie again, and play around. This is not how it goes.

So as you can see, Islam only allows you to lie under special circumstances, and as we saw, there is nothing evil about these circumstances, and only a fool would argue that this is something bad and evil.

So in conclusion, Christians should stop claiming that Muslims are allowed to lie for fun or whenever they feel like, that is something false and is an intentional lie and a distortion of the facts. Muslims are only allowed to lie under 3 specific circumstances, and as you can see, it is something very natural to lie in these 3 specific circumstances, and it must be done with a good intention, to save your life or the life of your fellow soldiers and army.

And Allah Knows Best

Is Islam an Arab religion?

One of the most common misconceptions amongst non Muslims is that Islam is an Arab religion, that Islam is for Arabs only, a religion made by an Arab, and to serve for the Arabs. However so this is far from the truth, Islam is not an Arab religion, nor was it made for the Arabs only, Islam is for all of mankind. There is not a single Quranic passage, or hadith which states that Islam is for Arabs only, or that Islam is an Arab thing or custom, this is not found within a single Islamic source.

The prophet Muhammad himself stated in his farewell address saying:

All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black nor a black has any superiority over a white - except by piety and good action.

So the blessed prophet Muhammad states that no Arab is better than a non Arab and vice versa. He goes on to say that one is only better by ones good deeds and piety, for instance someone who prays and fasts, is better than someone who does not pray and fasts. Hence the fact that an Arab has no superiority over a non Arab shows that Islam is not an Arab religion, because if it was then Arabs would be the most superior people on this planet, but that is not the case.

Secondly, the blessed prophet Muhammad was sent as a prophet for mankind, not the Arabs alone, his message and what was revealed to him was a universal message, not a message which was specifically for the Arabs alone:

034.028
YUSUFALI: We have not sent thee but as a universal (Messenger) to men, giving them glad tidings, and warning them (against sin), but most men understand not.

So as you can see Allah states that the prophet Muhammad was sent as a messenger to all of mankind, it does not say that he was sent to the Arabs only. The Noble prophet Muhammad himself said that he was sent to mankind, not to his nation only:

Volume 1, Book 7, Number 331:

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah:

The Prophet said, "I have been given five things which were not given to any one else before me.

1. Allah made me victorious by awe, (by His frightening my enemies) for a distance of one month's journey.

2. The earth has been made for me (and for my followers) a place for praying and a thing to perform Tayammum, therefore anyone of my followers can pray wherever the time of a prayer is due.

3. The booty has been made Halal (lawful) for me yet it was not lawful for anyone else before me.

4. I have been given the right of intercession (on the Day of Resurrection).

5. Every Prophet used to be sent to his nation only but I have been sent to all mankind.
It can't get any clearer than that, the prophet himself states that he has been sent for mankind, not the Arabs only.

Many more Quranic passages and authentic hadiths could be shown to further prove that Islam is a universal message and that the prophet Muhammad was sent as a prophet unto to mankind, but these few sources are enough to establish the point, hence there is no need to make this short article a 50 page article to look impressive as some of the idol worshipers do such as on the answering-Islam website.

And Indeed Allah Knows Best and has sent the Quran for Mankind and has established Islam as the religion for Mankind!

christianity...

:salam2:
Did Allah invent Christianity?

One often repeated claim made by Christians is that Allah invented, or spread Christianity. They make this claim because of Surah 4:157 which reads:

004.157
YUSUFALI: That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah";- but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not:-

They claim that this incident led to the invention of Christianity, or spread of Christianity.

Now off course as usual they are wrong, for several reasons, let us first examine what the verse actually says, and then see what Christianity says.

So to the verse, let us explain the verse words for words, starting with:

That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah

This was referring to the Jews, they were very proud of themselves, and were showing off amongst themselves that they killed Jesus, they even mocked him by calling him the messenger of God and the Messiah, although he was indeed the messenger of God and Messiah, they didn't believe it, and hence they were calling him these names as a form of mockery, not from sincerity.

The verse goes on to say:
";- but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them

As you can see, they in fact did not kill him, nor was he crucified, he was never killed, rather Allah saved Jesus, and Allah made it appear to the Jews who were present and the Romans who were carrying out the execution that Jesus was killed, when in fact it was not him.

and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not:-

The verse finally goes on to refute those who say otherwise, that Jesus did die, the Quran claims that those who make these claims and the people who don't agree with the Quranic account do not agree with themselves on what happened, and that they follow nothing but corruption in regard to what happened to Jesus. Basically the truth of the matter is that Jesus was not killed, and all other interpretations that say he was are lies and fabrications.

Now from where to Christians assume that this invented Christianity? To start off with, Christianity is a faith that believes that Jesus DIED on the cross, for the sins of man, and resurrected. If anything this verse is the complete opposite of Christianity! The verse says Jesus did not die, which means there is no resurrection, and which means no one died for our sins! Hence this verse and Christianity are 360% apart!

It was Paul who invented Christianity, not Allah, it was Paul who later came to the scene and started making things up about this event. Let us make it clear, that had some people believed that Jesus had died then we say there would be no problem with that, as it appeared to them that he did. So there would be no problems if people believed Jesus had died, in fact that would have been the end of the matter, that the Jews had killed another prophet, case closed.

The true deception arose when Paul came, when he claimed that the one who died on the cross whom he believed to have been Jesus died for our sins, and rose on the third day, that my friends is the deception and the invention! Christians have always been attacking straw man when they say Allah's action led to the invention of Christianity, because it did not at all, where did Allah give permission for the people to say Jesus rose from the dead, or that Jesus died for our sins? Where did Allah give permission for this? All Allah did was save the prophet Jesus from the evil Jews, and made it appear to them that hey had killed Jesus. However so Paul abused this incident and made several things up, such as Jesus rising from the dead, and dying for our sins.

So I repeat, if there were some people who believed Jesus had died on the cross there would have been no sin on them, the sin is that if these people later on started believing myths that Jesus in fact rose on the third day, and died for our sins, that is what they would get sins for, because they are following a doctrine with no basis and a doctrine which was not preached by Jesus. And the fact is Allah never gave any single reason for such myths to arise, it was Paul who abused this situation and began inventing myths about what happened on that day, and this is what led to the invention of Christianity, not Allah saving Jesus, but Paul making things up!

So Christians should stop being dis-honest and drop this weak untruthful argument that Allah invented Christianity, when in fact he did not, when in fact the fake apostle and anti-Christ Paul invented it. Paul was the one who said Jesus rose from the dead, not Allah; Paul was the one who claimed that Jesus died for our sins, not Allah. And as we all know Jesus himself talked about false prophets that would appear, hence the true believers of Jesus would have been able to distinguish between a true prophet and a false one, for instance a prophet who came and started preaching something that Jesus never did then the believers would naturally know that Paul was a liar and a fake. Therefore the people who did follow Paul have only themselves to blame for believing his fairy tale myths and lies concerning Jesus, it would have been better for them to go straight to the teachings of Jesus himself, and they would have easily seen that Jesus preached there is only one God, and that he (Jesus) is a prophet, not that he came to die for our sins and rise on the third day!

So I call upon all the Christians to return back to the straight path, that which is Islam, as Jesus said:

003.051
YUSUFALI: "'It is Allah Who is my Lord and your Lord; then worship Him. This is a Way that is straight.'"
Ameen!

And Allah Knows Best

**Why the Virgin Birth in Islam?**

:salam2:

Why the Virgin Birth in Islam?

We the Muslims just like the Christians believe that Mary gave birth to Jesus as a virgin, and not the result of sexual intercourse. Both us and the Christians agree that this was a mighty miracle and sign from God, however so the differences between us and the Christian arise when we discuss why the virgin birth was done, both of us have different reasons, and in this article We shall talk about why Allah choose to carry out such a great miracle.

To begin with, here are the relevant passages from the Quran:

003.045

YUSUFALI: Behold! the angels said: "O Mary! Allah giveth thee glad tidings of a Word from Him: his name will be Christ Jesus, the son of Mary, held in honour in this world and the Hereafter and of (the company of) those nearest to Allah;

003.046

YUSUFALI: "He shall speak to the people in childhood and in maturity. And he shall be (of the company) of the righteous."

003.047

YUSUFALI: She said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son when no man hath touched me?" He said: "Even so: Allah createth what He willeth: When He hath decreed a plan, He but saith to it, 'Be,' and it is!

Ibn Kathir's tafsir writes:

Delivering the Good News to Maryam of `Isa's Birth

This Ayah contains the glad tidings the angels brought to Maryam that she would give birth to a mighty son who will have a great future. Allah said,

((Remember) when the angels said: "O Maryam! Verily, Allah gives you the glad tidings of a Word from Him,) a son who will come into existence with a word from Allah, `Be', and he was. This is the meaning of Allah's statement (about Yahya)

(Believing in the Word from Allah.) [3:39], according to the majority of the scholars.

(His name will be Al-Masih, `Isa, the son of Maryam) and he will be known by this name in this life, especially by the believers. `Isa was called "Al-Masih'' (the Messiah) because when he touched (Mash) those afflicted with an illness, they would be healed by Allah's leave. Allah's statement,

(`Isa, the son of Maryam) relates `Isa to his mother, because he did not have a father.

(Held in honor in this world and in the Hereafter, and will be one of those who are near to Allah.) meaning, he will be a leader and honored by Allah in this life, because of the Law that Allah will reveal to him, sending down the Scripture to him, along with the other bounties that Allah will grant him with. `Isa will be honored in the Hereafter and will intercede with Allah, by His leave, on behalf of some people, just as is the case with his brethren the mighty Messengers of Allah, peace be upon them all.

`Isa was Created Without a Father

When Maryam heard the good news that the angels conveyed from Allah, she said;

("O my Lord! How shall I have a son when no man has touched me.'')

Mary said, "How can I have a son while I did not marry, nor intend to marry, nor am I an indecent woman, may Allah forbid'' The angel conveyed to Maryam, Allah's answer,

(So (it will be) for Allah creates what He wills.)

He is Mighty in power and nothing escapes His ability. Allah used the word `create' here instead of the word `does' as in the tale about Zakariyya [3:40], to eradicate any evil thought concerning `Isa. Allah next emphasized this fact when He said,

(When He has decreed something, He says to it only: "Be! ? and it is.) meaning, what Allah wills, comes into existence instantly and without delay. In another Ayah, Allah said,

(And Our commandment is but one as the twinkling of an eye.) [54:50], meaning, "We only issue the command once, and it comes into existence instantly, as fast as, and faster than, a blink of the eye. ''

So from this we can conclude one reason why Allah did this why to show his strength and how he can do what he wills whenever he wills, he just says be and it is. As the tafsir says, he is mighty in power and nothing escapes his ability, this is showing that Allah is able to do all things, including a birth of a child with no father, and also a birth of a child with no father and mother, such as in the case of Adam.

The Quran touches on the virgin birth again in Surah Maryam:

019.016
YUSUFALI: Relate in the Book (the story of) Mary, when she withdrew from her family to a place in the East.

019.017

YUSUFALI: She placed a screen (to screen herself) from them; then We sent her our angel, and he appeared before her as a man in all respects

019.018

YUSUFALI: She said: "I seek refuge from thee to (Allah) Most Gracious: (come not near) if thou dost fear Allah."

019.019

YUSUFALI: He said: "Nay, I am only a messenger from thy Lord, (to announce) to thee the gift of a holy son.

019.020

YUSUFALI: She said: "How shall I have a son, seeing that no man has touched me, and I am not unchaste?"

019.021

YUSUFALI: He said: "So (it will be): Thy Lord saith, 'that is easy for Me: and (We wish) to appoint him as a Sign unto men and a Mercy from Us':It is a matter (so) decreed

Here we see why Allah carried out the virgin birth, as verse 21 says, Allah wanted to make Jesus as a sign for man. What this basically means is that Allah wanted the virgin birth to signify a mighty miracle and mighty proof and sign of God, because such a thing was impossible and unthinkable, and that the only way that such a thing could happen is only if a divine being carried this act out.

And what better proof do we need than the existence of a divine being and creator than a virgin birth? This is a very strong proof for the Children of Israel, and mankind, and only a fool would deny the existence of God with such a miraculous sign.

verse 21 also shows us that Allah said that causing a birth even with the fact that no man has touched Mary is easy for him, this once again demonstrates God's mighty power and how all things are possible with him.

Ibn Kathir's tafsir writes:

The Story of Maryam and Al-Masih (`Isa)

After Allah, the Exalted, mentioned the story of Zakariyya, and that He blessed him with a righteous, purified and blessed child even in his old age while his wife was barren, He then mentions the story of Maryam. Allah informs of His granting her a child named `Isa without a father being involved (in her pregnancy). Between these two stories there is an appropriate and similar relationship. Due to their closeness in meaning, Allah mentioned them here together, as well as in Surahs Al `Imran and Al-Anbiya'. Allah has mentioned these stories to show His servants His ability, the might of His authority and that He has power over all things. Allah says,

(And mention in the Book, Maryam,) She was Maryam bint `Imran from the family lineage of Dawud. She was from a good and wholesome family of the Children of Israel. Allah mentioned the story of her mother's pregnancy with her in Surah Al `Imran, and that she (Maryam's mother) dedicated her freely for the service of Allah. This meant that she dedicated the child (Maryam) to the service of the Masjid of the Sacred House (in Jerusalem). Thus, they (Zakariyya, Maryam's mother and Maryam) were similar in that aspect.

(So her Lord (Allah) accepted her with goodly acceptance. He made her grow in a good manner.)[3:37] Thus, Maryam was raised among the Children of Israel in an honorable way. She was one of the female worshippers, well-known for her remarkable acts of worship, devotion and perseverance. She lived under the care of her brother-in-law, Zakariyya, who was a Prophet of the Children of Israel at that time. He was a great man among them, whom they would refer to in their religious matters. Zakariyya saw astonishing miracles occur from her that amazed him.

(Every time Zakaiyya entered the Mihrab to (visit) her, he found her supplied with sustenance. He said: "O Maryam! From where have you got this'' She said, "This is from Allah.'' Verily, Allah provides to whom He wills, without limit.) [3:37] It has been mentioned that he would find her with winter fruit during the summer and summer fruit during the winter. This has already been explained in Surah Al `Imran. Then, when Allah wanted to grant her His servant and Messenger, `Isa, one of the five Great Messengers.

(she withdrew in seclusion from her family to place facing east.) [19:16] This means that she withdrew from them and secluded herself from them. She went to the eastern side of the Sacred Masjid (in Jerusalem). It is reported from Ibn `Abbas that he said, "Verily, I am the most knowledgeable of Allah's creation of why the Christians took the east as the direction of devotional worship. They did because of Allah's statement,

(When she withdrew in seclusion from her family to a place facing east.) Therefore, they took the birthplace of `Isa as their direction of worship.'' Concerning Allah's statement,

(She placed a screen before them; ) This means that she hid herself from them and concealed herself. Then, Allah sent Jibril to her.

(and he appeared before her in the form of a man in all respects.) [19:17] This means that he came to her in the form of a perfect and complete man. Mujahid, Ad-Dahhak, Qatadah, Ibn Jurayj, Wahb bin Munabbih and As-Suddi all commented on Allah's statement,

(then We sent to her Our Ruh,) "It means Jibril.''

(She said: "Verily, I seek refuge with the Most Gracious from you, if you do fear Allah.'') This means that when the angel (Jibril) appeared to her in the form of a man, while she was in a place secluded by herself with a partition between her and her people, she was afraid of him and thought that he wanted to rape her. Therefore, she said,

(Verily, I seek refuge with the Most Gracious from you, if you do fear Allah.) She meant, "If you fear Allah,'' as a means of reminding him of Allah. This is what is legislated in defense against (evil), so that it may be repulsed with ease. Therefore, the first thing she did was try to make him fear Allah, the Mighty and Sublime. Ibn Jarir reported from `Asim that Abu Wa'il said when mentioning the story of Maryam, "She knew that the pious person would refrain (from committing evil) when she said,

("Verily, I seek refuge with the Most Gracious from you, if you do fear Allah.'' He said: "I am only a messenger from your Lord...'') This means that the angel said to her in response, and in order to remove the fear that she felt within herself, "I am not what you think, but I am the messenger of your Lord.'' By this he meant, "Allah has sent me to you.'' It is said that when she mentioned the (Name of the) Most Beneficent (Ar-Rahman), Jibril fell apart and returned to his true form (as an angel). He responded,

`I am only a messenger from your Lord, to provide to you the gift of a righteous son.'

(She said: "How can I have a son...'') This means that Maryam was amazed at this. She said, "How can I have a son'' She said this to mean, "In what way would a son be born to me when I do not have a husband and I do not commit any wicked acts (i.e. fornication)'' For this reason she said,

(when no man has touched me, nor am I Baghiyya) The Baghiyy is a female fornicator. For this reason, a Hadith has been reported prohibiting the money earned from Baghiyy.

(He said: "Thus said your Lord: `That is easy for Me (Allah)...'') This means that the angel said to her in response to her question, "Verily, Allah has said that a boy will be born from you even though you do not have a husband and you have not committed any lewdness. Verily, He is Most Able to do whatever He wills.'' Due to this, he (Jibril) conveyed Allah's Words,

(And (We wish) to appoint him as a sign to mankind) This means a proof and a sign for mankind of the power of their Maker and Creator, Who diversified them in their creation. He created their father, Adam, without a male (father) or female (mother). Then, He created Hawwa' (Adam's spouse) from a male (father) without a female (mother). Then, He created the rest of their progeny from male and female, except `Isa. He caused `Isa to be born from a female without a male. Thus, Allah completed the four types of creation (of the human being), which proves the perfection of His power and the magnificence of His authority. There is no god worthy of worship except Him and there is no true Lord other than Him. Concerning Allah's statement,

(and a mercy from Us,) This means, "We will make this boy a mercy from Allah and a Prophet from among the Prophets. He will call to the worship of Allah and monotheistic belief in Him. This is as Allah, the Exalted, said in another Ayah,

((Remember) when the angels said: "O Maryam! Verily, Allah gives you the good news of a Word from Him, his name will be Al-Masih, `Isa, the son of Maryam, held in honor in this world and in the Hereafter, and will be one of those who are near to Allah. And he will speak to the people, in the cradle and in manhood, and he will be one of the righteous.) [3:45-46] This means that he will call to the worship of his Lord in his cradle and while and adult. Concerning His statement,

(and it is a matter (already) decreed (by Allah).) This is the completion of Jibril's dialogue with Maryam. He informed her that this matter was preordained by Allah's power and will. Muhammad bin Ishaq said,

(and it is a matter (already) decreed (by Allah).) "This means that Allah determined to do this, so there is no avoiding it.''

So as you see, the virgin birth was to signify a mighty sign for the people, and it also showed Allah's strength and power, his perfect strength and power.

So hence if anyone ever asks you why did Allah wish to carry out a virgin birth for Jesus, then respond to him by these answers which We have just given you. This is the Islamic reason to why the virgin birth was carried out, and is a consensus among Islamic scholarship.

And may Allah continue to send us mighty miracles! Ameen:tti_sister:

The Holy Spirit in Islam

:salam2:

Who is the Holy Spirit In Islam?

Just like in Christianity, we the Muslims also believe in the Holy spirit, however so our belief in the Holy spirit is quite different than the Christian belief on this matter. However so who is the Holy spirit that the Quran often refers to? :

016.102
YUSUFALI:[/
B] Say, the Holy Spirit has brought the revelation from thy Lord in Truth, in order to strengthen those who believe, and as a Guide and Glad Tidings to Muslims.

005.110
YUSUFALI: Then will Allah say: "O Jesus the son of Mary! Recount My favour to thee and to thy mother. Behold! I strengthened thee with the holy spirit, so that thou didst speak to the people in childhood and in maturity. Behold! I taught thee the Book and Wisdom, the Law and the Gospel and behold! thou makest out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, by My leave, and thou breathest into it and it becometh a bird by My leave, and thou healest those born blind, and the lepers, by My leave. And behold! thou bringest forth the dead by My leave. And behold! I did restrain the Children of Israel from (violence to) thee when thou didst show them the clear Signs, and the unbelievers among them said: 'This is nothing but evident magic.'

So who exactly is the Holy Spirit? Let us consult Ibn Kathir's tafsir:

Jibril is Ruh Al-Qudus

The proof that Jibril is the Ruh Al-Qudus is the statement of Ibn Mas`ud in explanation of this Ayah. This is also the view of Ibn `Abbas, Muhammad bin Ka`b, Isma`il bin Khalid, As-Suddi, Ar-Rabi` bin Anas, `Atiyah Al-`Awfi and Qatadah. Additionally, Allah said,

[äóÒóáó Èöåö ÇáÑøõæÍõ ÇáÇøñãöíäõ - Úóáóì ÞóáúÈößó áöÊóßõæäó ãöäó ÇáúãõäúÐöÑöíäó ]

(Which the trustworthy Ruh (Jibril) has brought down. Upon your heart (O Muhammad ) that you may be (one) of the warners) (26:193-194).

Al-Bukhari recorded `A'ishah saying that the Messenger of Allah erected a Minbar in the Masjid on which Hassan bin Thabit (the renowned poet) used to defend the Messenger of Allah (with his poems). The Messenger of Allah said,

«Çááøóåõãøó ÃóíøöÏú ÍóÓøóÇäó ÈöÑõæÍö ÇáúÞõÏõÓö ßóãóÇ äóÇÝóÍó Úóäú äóÈöíøöß»

(O Allah! Aid Hassan with Ruh Al-Qudus, for he defended Your Prophet.)

Abu Dawud recorded this Hadith in his Sunan as did At-Tirmidhi who graded it Hasan Sahih. Further, Ibn Hibban recorded in his Sahih that Ibn Mas`ud said that the Prophet said,

«Åöäøó ÑõæÍó ÇáúÞõÏõÓö äóÝóËó Ýöí ÑõæÚöí Ãóäøóåõ áóäú ÊóãõæÊó äóÝúÓñ ÍóÊøóì ÊóÓúÊóßúãöáó ÑöÒúÞóåóÇ æóÃóÌóáóåóÇ¡ ÝóÇÊøóÞõæÇ Çááåó æóÃóÌúãöáõæÇ Ýöí ÇáØøóáóÈ»

(Ruh Al-Qudus informed me that no soul shall die until it finishes its set provisions and term limit. Therefore, have Taqwa of Allah and seek your sustenance in the most suitable way.)

Reminding `Isa of the Favors that Allah Granted him

Allah mentions how He blessed His servant and Messenger, `Isa, son of Maryam, and the miracles and extraordinary acts He granted him. Allah said,

[ÇÐúßõÑú äöÚúãóÊöì Úóáóíúßó]

(Remember My favor to you) when I created you from your mother, without male intervention, and made you a sign and clear proof of My perfect power over all things. d

[æóÚóáóì æóáöÏóÊößó]

(And to your mother) when I made you testify to her chastity and you thus absolved her from the sin that the unjust, ignorant liars accused her of,

[ÅöÐú ÃóíøóÏÊøõßó ÈöÑõæÍö ÇáúÞõÏõÓö]

(when I supported you with Ruh - il-Qudus) the angel Jibril, and made you a Prophet, calling to Allah in the cradle and manhood. I made you speak in the cradle, and you testified that your mother was free from any immoral behavior, and you proclaimed that you worship Me. You also conveyed the news of My Message and invited them to worship Me.

And also here is what one Sheikh writes concerning this matter:

Praise be to Allaah.

The "Holy Spirit" (Rooh al-Qudus) is Jibreel (peace be upon him). Shaykh al-Shanqeeti said: "The words of Allaah (interpretation of the meaning), ?and [We] supported him with Rooh al-Qudus' [al-Baqarah 2:87] refer to Jibreel according to the most sound view. This is indicated by the words (interpretation of the meaning): ?Which the trustworthy Rooh has brought down' [al-Shu'ara' 26:193] and ?then We sent to her our Rooh' [Maryam 19:17]."

Ibn Abi Haatim narrated from Ahmad ibn Sinaan. Abu'l-Za'raa' told us: ?Abd-Allaah said: Rooh al-Qudus ("the Holy Spirit") is Jibreel, then he said: something similar was narrated from Muhammad ibn Ka'b al-Qurazi, Qutaadah, ?Atiyah al-?Awfi, al-Saddi and al-Rabee' ibn Anas.

This view is supported by the above and by the report narrated by the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhaari and Muslim] with their isnaads from Abu Salamah ibn ?Abd al-Rahmaan ibn ?Awf, that he heard Hassaan ibn Thaabit al-Ansaari asking Abu Hurayrah to bear witness, "I ask you by Allaah, did you hear the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say, ?O Hassaan, respond on behalf of the Messenger of Allaah. O Allaah, support him with Rooh al-Qudus'?" Abu Hurayrah said, "Yes."

(al-Tafseer al-Masboor by Dr. Hikmat Basheer, 1/192-193)

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said: the majority of scholars said that this refers to Jibreel (peace be upon him), and that Allaah called him al-Rooh al-Ameen, Rooh al-Qudus and Jibreel."

(Daqaa'iq al-Tafseer, part 1, p. 310)

He wrote an entire chapter on that and said:

Chapter on the meaning of Rooh al-Qudus:

Allaah said (interpretation of the meaning):

"O ?Eesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary)! Remember My Favour to you and to your mother when I supported you with Rooh ul Qudus [Jibreel (Gabriel)]."

[al-Maa'idah 5:110]

Allaah supported the Messiah (peace be upon him) with Rooh al-Qudus as He mentions in this aayah. In al-Baqarah Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

"And We gave ?Eesa (Jesus), the son of Maryam (Mary), clear signs and supported him with Rooh-ul-Qudus [Jibreel (Gabriel)]

[al-Baqarah 2:87]

"Those Messengers! We preferred some of them to others; to some of them Allâh spoke (directly); others He raised to degrees (of honour); and to ?Eesa (Jesus), the son of Maryam (Mary), We gave clear proofs and evidences, and supported him with Rooh ul Qudus [Jibreel (Gabriel)]"

[al-Baqarah 2:253]

This is not limited only to the Messiah; others were also supported in this way. (The scholars) mentioned that Dawood said, "Do not stop supporting me with Rooh al-Qudus." And our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to Hassaan ibn Thaabit, "O Allaah, support him with Rooh al-Qudus." According to another report: "Rooh al-Qudus will be with you so long as you are defending His Prophet." Both versions are narrated in al-Saheeh.

According to the Christians, the "Holy Spirit" dwelt in the Disciples, and according to them the "Holy Spirit" is something experienced by all of the Prophets. But Allaah says in al-Nahl (interpretation of the meaning):

"Say (O Muhammad) Rooh ul Qudus [Jibreel (Gabriel)] has brought it (the Qur'aan) down from your Lord with truth, that it may make firm and strengthen (the Faith of) those who believe, and as a guidance and glad tidings to those who have submitted (to Allaah as Muslims)"

[al-Nahl 16:102]

"Which the trustworthy Rooh [Jibreel (Gabriel)] has brought down

Upon your heart (O Muhammad)"

[al-Shu'ara' 26:193]

"Whoever is an enemy to Jibreel (Gabriel) (let him die in his fury), for indeed he has brought it (this Qur'aan) down to your heart"

[al-Baqarah 2:97]

So it is clear that Rooh al-Qudus here refers to Jibreel. No one suggests that Rooh al-Qudus means the life of Allaah; nor is this indicated by the wording and this phrase is never used in that sense.

Daqaa'iq al-Tafseer, part 2, p. 92

So it is a consensus among Islamic Scholarship that the Holy Spirit is Jibreel, and this isn't just a mere opinion, the Islamic texts and sources prove this fact, the scholars didn't just make it up. For instance the Quran says this concerning the Holy Spirit:

016.102
YUSUFALI: Say, the Holy Spirit has brought the revelation from thy Lord in Truth, in order to strengthen those who believe, and as a Guide and Glad Tidings to Muslims.

So the Holy spirit has brought down the Quran to the prophet Muhammad, this is non other than the angel Jibreel, this is what the Quran says concerning Jibreel:

002.097
YUSUFALI: Say: Whoever is an enemy to Gabriel-for he brings down the (revelation) to thy heart by Allah's will, a confirmation of what went before, and guidance and glad tidings for those who believe,-

So as you can see the Holy spirit can be non other than the angel Jibreel, the Holy spirit brings down the revelation which strengthens and guides the believers, the angel Jibreel brings down the revelation which strengthens and guides the believers! Hence the Holy Spirit is Jibreel and Jibreel is the Holy spirit!

So in conclusion the Holy Spirit in Islam is not God, nor a semi-God, the Holy Spirit in Islam is non other than the angel Jibreel.

And Allah Knows Best!

****The Last Messanger****

:salam2:

Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) Is The Last Prophet and Messenger

There seems to be confusion amongst some people who think that the Muhammad (peace be upon him) is only the last Prophet but not the last messenger. They argue that the Quran only says that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the last Prophet (Surah 33, verse 40) but doesn't say he is the last messenger.

This is false, due to the fact that if the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the last Prophet then it automatically concludes that he is the last messenger.

Allama Ibn Kathir (died A.H. 774) writes in his well- known commentary, "Hence this verse is a clear proof of the fact that no prophet will come after Muhammad (PBUH) and when it is said that no prophet will come after him it is a foregone conclusion that no messenger will succeed him either, for the office of a messenger holds prominence over the office of a prophet. Every messenger is a prophet, but all prophets are not messengers. Any one who lays a claim to prophethood after Muhammad (PBUH) is a liar, a disruptionist, an imposter, depraved and a seducer despite his wonderous jugglery and magical feats. Any one who would make this claim in future till the end of the world belongs to this class. (Vol. 3, pp. 493-494)

Allama Alusi (died 1270 A.H.) in his commentary, Ruh-ul-Ma'ani, writes: "The word 'Prophet' is common, but the word 'Messenger' has a particular significance. Hence when the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is called the 'Seal of Prophets,' it necessarily follows that he is also the 'Seal of Messengers.' The implication of the Holy Prophet's position as 'the Last of all Prophets and Messengers of God' is that by his(PBUH) elevation to the dignity of Prophethood in this world, the same dignity has henceforth been abolished and no man can attain that dignity now." (Vol. 22, p. 32)
(M.I. Zahid, Finality of Prophethood, Source)

Just in case someone tries to argue back that this is only the opinions of scholars and it holds no weight then the following authentic hadith will end the argument.

The Prophet of Allah (Peace be upon him) affirmed: "The chain of Messengers and Prophets has come to an end. There shall be no Messenger nor Prophet after me." [/I](Sunan Al Tirmidhi, Kitab: ur-Rouya Bab: Zahab-un- Nubuwwa, Hadith No.2198, Source)

Sheikh Albani in his book Erwaa' Al Ghaleel, no.2473, 8th narration says regarding the above hadith...

Collected by Ahmad (267/3) and Al Tirmidhi (44/2) and said it was an authentic narration hadith and Al Hakim (391/4) said, "It is authentic on the conditions of Muslim" and Al Dhahabi agreed with him.

So as we can see, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) made it clear that the line of Prophets and Messengers has come to an end and this hadith has been authenticated and collected by the top hadith scholars. Since we have the claim that Muhammad (peace be upon him) declared that he is the final messenger, this misconception has officially been refuted.

Was Islam spread by the sword?

Question:
Was Islam spread by the sword?.
Answer:
Praise be to Allaah.

We have already stated in question no. 34830 that jihad is of two types: taking the initiative in fighting and jihad in self-defence.

Undoubtedly taking the initiative in fighting has a great effect in spreading Islam and bringing people into the religion of Allaah in crowds. Hence the hearts of the enemies of Islam are filled with fear of jihad.

In the English-language Muslim World Magazine it says: There should be some kind of fear in the western world, one of the causes of which is that since the time it first appeared in Makkah, Islam has never decreased in numbers, rather it has always continued to increase and spread. Moreover Islam is not only a religion, rather one of its pillars is jihad.

Robert Bean says: The Muslims conquered the entire world before and they could do it again.

The Orientalists wanted to slander Islam by claiming that it was spread by the sword.

The orientalist Thomas Arnold wrote his book The Preaching of Islam with the aim of killing off the spirit of jihad among the Muslims and proving that Islam was not spread by the sword, rather that it spread by means of peaceful preaching, free from any use of force.

The Muslims fell into the trap that was set up for them. When they heard the orientalists’ accusations that Islam was spread by the sword, they said: You are mistaken, listen to a refutation from one of your own people, this Thomas says such and such.

The defeatists among the Muslims come out to defend Islam, and they want to disavow Islam of this so-called lie, so they deny that Islam was spread by the sword, and they say that jihad is not prescribed in Islam, except in the case of self-defence. There is no such thing in Islam as taking the initiative in fighting in their view. This goes against what the Muslim scholars have stated, let alone the fact that it goes against the Qur’aan and Sunnah.

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said in Majmoo’ al-Fataawa, 28/263.

The purpose is that all religion should be for Allaah alone, and that the word of Allaah should be supreme. The word of Allaah is a comprehensive phrase that refers to His words that are contained in His Book. Hence Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Indeed We have sent Our Messengers with clear proofs, and revealed with them the Scripture and the Balance (justice) that mankind may keep up justice”

[al-Hadeed 57:25]

The purpose behind sending the Messengers and revealing the Books was so that mankind might keep up justice with regard to the rights of Allaah and the rights of His creation. Then Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And We brought forth iron wherein is mighty power (in matters of war), as well as many benefits for mankind, that Allaah may test who it is that will help Him (His religion) and His Messengers in the unseen”

[al-Hadeed 27:25]

So whoever deviates from the Book is to be brought back with iron, i.e. by force. Hence the soundness of the religion is based on the Qur’aan and the Sword. It was narrated that Jaabir ibn ‘Abd-Allaah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) commanded us to strike with this, meaning the sword, whoever turns away from this, meaning the Qur’aan.

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in al-Faroosiyyah (p.18):

Allaah sent him – meaning the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) – with the guiding Book and the conquering sword, ahead of the Hour, so that Allaah alone would be worshipped with no partner or associate, and his provision was placed beneath the shade of his sword and spear. Allaah has established the religion of Islam with proof and evidence, and with the sword and spear, both together and inseparable.

This is some of the evidence from the Qur’aan and Sunnah. The evidence clearly indicates that the sword is one of the most important means that led to the spread of Islam.

1 – Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“For had it not been that Allaah checks one set of people by means of another, monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques, wherein the Name of Allaah is mentioned much would surely, have been pulled down. Verily, Allaah will help those who help His (Cause). Truly, Allaah is All-Strong, All-Mighty”

[al-Hajj 22:40]

“And if Allaah did not check one set of people by means of another, the earth would indeed be full of mischief. But Allaah is full of bounty to the ‘Aalameen (mankind, jinn and all that exists)”

[al-Baqarah 2:251]

2 – Allaah has commanded us to prepare the means of fighting against the kuffaar and frightening them. He says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And make ready against them all you can of power, including steeds of war (tanks, planes, missiles, artillery) to threaten the enemy of Allaah and your enemy, and others besides whom, you may not know but whom Allaah does know”

[al-Anfaal 8:60]

If Islam was only spread by peaceful means, what would the kuffaar have to be afraid of? Of mere words spoken on the tongue? In al-Saheehayn it is narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “I have been supported with fear as far as a month’s journey.” Would the kuffaar be afraid of being told, “become Muslim, but if you do not then you are free to believe and do whatever you want”? or were they afraid of jihad and the imposition of the jizyah and being humiliated? That may make them enter Islam so that they may be spared this humiliation.

3 – When the Messenger called people to Islam, his call was accompanied by the sword, and he commanded his leaders to do likewise, so that when the people saw the serious of the Muslims in calling people to their religion, that dispelled any confusion.

Al-Bukhaari (3009) and Muslim (2406) narrated that Sahl ibn Sa’d (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said on the day of Khaybar: “Tomorrow I will give the banner to a man at whose hands victory will come, one who loves Allaah and His Messenger, and Allaah and His Messenger love him.” The people spent that night wondering which of them would be given the banner and all of them were hoping for it. Then he (the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)) said, “Where is ‘Ali?” It was said, “His eye is hurting.” So he spat in his eyes and made du’aa’ for him, and he was healed, as if there had not been anything wrong with him. Then he gave him the flag and he [‘Ali] said: “Shall I fight them so that they will be like us?” He said: “Go ahead, until you reach their encampment, then call them to Islam and tell them what they are obliged to do, for by Allaah if Allaah were to guide a man at your hands that would be better for you than having red camels [the best kind].”

So this call to Islam was accompanied by the force of arms.

Muslim (3261) narrated that Buraydah said: When the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) appointed a commander to lead an army or a raiding party, he would advise him to fear Allaah with regard to himself and the Muslims with him, then he said: “Fight in the name of Allaah and for the sake of Allaah. Fight those who disbelieve in Allaah, fight but do not steal from the war booty (before it is shared out), betray, or mutilate. Do not kill children. If you meet your enemy of the mushrikeen, call them to three things, and whichever one of them they respond to, accept that from them and leave them alone. Then call them to Islam and if they respond, accept that from them and leave them alone. If they refuse but they pay the jizyah, then they have responded to you, so accept that from them and leave them alone. If they refuse then seek the help of Allaah and fight them…”

So the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) told his commanders to call the kuffaar to Islam whilst wielding their swords over their heads. If they refused to become Muslim then they should pay the jizyah with humility. If they refused then there was nothing left for them but the sword – “If they refuse then seek the help of Allaah and fight them”

4 – The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “I have been sent ahead of the Hour with the sword so that Allaah will be worshipped alone, and my provision has been placed in the shade of my spear, and humiliation has been decreed for those who go against my command, and whoever imitates a people is one of them.” Narrated by Ahmad, 4869; Saheeh al-Jaami’, 2831.

The fact that the sword and power were means of spreading Islam is not a sources of shame for Islam, rather it is one of its strengths and virtues, because that makes people adhere to that which will benefit them in this world and in the Hereafter. Many people are foolish and lacking in wisdom and knowledge, and if they are left to their own devices they will remain blinded to the truth, indulging in their whims and desires. So Allaah has prescribed jihad in order to bring them back to the truth and to that which will benefit them. Undoubtedly wisdom dictates that the fool should be prevented from doing that which will harm him, and should be forced to do that which will benefit him.

Al-Bukhaari (4557) narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “ ‘You (true believers in Islamic Monotheism, and real followers of Prophet Muhammad and his Sunnah) are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind’ [Aal- Imraan 3:110 – interpretation of the meaning].” He said: “You are the best (i.e., the most beneficial) of people for mankind, you bring them in the chains that are around their necks until they enter Islam.” Can people be brought in chains except in the case of jihad??

This is something for which Islam deserves to be praised, not condemned. The defeatists should fear Allaah lest they distort this religion and cause it to become weak on the basis of the claim that it is a religion of peace. Yes, it is the religion of peace but in the sense of saving all of mankind from worshipping anything other than Allaah and submitting all of mankind to the rule of Allaah. This is the religion of Allaah, not the ideas of any person or the product of human thought, so that those who promote it should feel ashamed to state its ultimate goal, which is that all religion (worship) should be for Allaah alone. When the ideas that people follow are all produced by human beings and the systems and laws that control their lives are all made up by human beings, then in this case each idea and each system has the right to live safely within its own borders so long as it does not transgress the borders of others, so the various ideas and laws can co-exist and not try to destroy one another. But when there is a divine system and law, and alongside it there are human systems and laws, then the matter is fundamentally different, and the divine law has the right to remove the barriers and free people from enslavement to human beings…

Fiqh al-Da’wah by Sayyid Qutb, 217-222.

It says in Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah (12/14):

Islam spread by means of proof and evidence to those who listened to the message and responded to it, and it spread by means of force and the sword to those who were stubborn and arrogant, until they were overwhelmed and became no longer stubborn, and submitted to that reality.

And Allaah knows best.

Enslavement of Man by Man

Democracy: Enslavement of Man by Man

It is not strange that Muslims have adopted democracy as if it were a divine law from Allah, for they know not the reality of it or the great injustice that lies in it. In addition, Muslims, due to their great ignorance of Islam, have been an easy prey to the Western thought propagated through many ways. In this article, I will attempt to explain how West adopted democracy and how it actually has failed to solve the problem it was adopted for and how it is truly the enslavement of man by man.

It is natural for man to live in a society, for man by nature cannot live in isolation from the rest of human beings. This is due to the fact that man has certain biological needs and instincts which cannot be properly satisfied without co-operating with other human beings. This in turn will necessitate the existence of mutual interests that will lead to the establishment of relationships among the people. These relationships must be organised through rules and regulations in order to create tranquillity and security in the society. These rules and regulations must come from somewhere or someone, and they must be enforced on the society in order to achieve the desired tranquillity. While those who make the rules and regulations differ from time to time and place to place (excluding the Islamic society), they are always the ones who posses power and have an influence, such as exploitation of the weaker by the stronger in a tribal set-up, or exploitation of the clergy of its followers etc.

Looking at societies in history, one sees that while the systems existing in them established some sort of tranquillity, members of these societies were not pleased with those rules and regulations for they were designed to serve the interests of those in power who were a minority on the account of the rest who were the majority. It is a fact that majority of these rules were to severely and unjustly limit the good of the individual for the benefit of the ruling group. This led to great discomfort and misery for the people living in the society. Life became one of suppression and enslavement practised by the strong few on the weak majority. This kind of life led, through the
ages, the people to look forward to a better life, break away from the chains of enslavement of the strong few, and the call for freedom. The call to freedom would not have existed if there were no enslavement. This was the natural reaction to the situation that existed. Thus, the call to freedom was not intended as a call to live in a lawless society but rather as a call for liberation from the enslavement by the unjust ruling few.

The problem then is that a small group controlled the society and forced the system that guaranteed its interest which caused great misery to many members of the society, and that in turn
led to the feeling of enslavement. It should be noted, however, that injustice and enslavement is not caused by the individuals who carry out the system as much as it is from the system itself and from its sources. In other words, the making of laws (legislation) by the few for the rest of the society leads to the enslavement of the majority by the few.

It was natural for people to stand against this kind of enslavement ad resist it in various ways. This resistance, being mostly unorganised was doomed to its failure until the age of “enlightenment”, the end of the 17th century and all the 18th century. Also, many thinkers and philosophers started thinking how to end such great injustice practised by the kings, concluded that the only way to end this injustice and enslavement was to make the majority (the people) make and chose the laws and regulations i.e., the majority should be the source of legislation for the society. This solution is what is called Democracy in Greek.

Thus, it was natural for the idea of democracy to be widely accepted by people, for it appeared to make them masters after being slaves. So the question arises: Does democracy truly take man out of slavery and put him in master ship? Does it truly free man from injustice and tyranny?

The Answer: Those intellectuals who called for democracy in reality merely shifted the source of legislation in society from the hands of the few to the hands of many (from the minority to the majority). In other words, they exchanged situations between both groups by making the few subject to the rules of the majority, and consequently enslaved by the majority. Therefore, democracy has not removed enslavement from society but rather shifted it to a smaller circle. The best to be attributed to democracy is to say that it is the enslavement by the majority of the minority. Meaning that the majority chooses and enforces rules on the minority. (This is true regarding the idea of democracy. Implementation of democracy is a separate topic and it will be discussed later Inshallah Allah.)

Looking closely at democracy, one finds that it is established on a false premise which is considering the majority (the people) to be one entity with a unified view. The reality is that the majority does not have one common interest. On the contrary, it might very well have contradicting interests according to the individual and groups who compose the minority. This leads to the conclusion that democracy will definitely fail in achieving true tranquillity in the society.

The most outstanding features in democracy are:
1. Its establishment on a wrong premise which considers people to be a unified group.

2. Its idea of approving the enslavement of man by man by giving the majority the right to rule and legislate for the society.

This is the reality of the democratic idea, it is based on a wrong premise, and unable to end the enslavement of man by man. This came as a result of the misunderstanding of the reality of the society since this conclusion was not reached through a deep and enlightened thought but a result of a mere reaction.
