Was Ibn Taymiyyah For The Mawlid (Celebration Of The Prophet’s Birthday (saw))?

Some people claim that Ibn Taymiyyah was for the mawlid and as ‘evidence’ they produce the following paragraph from his words:

“And similarly what some people innovate by analogy with the Christians who celebrate the birth of ‘Eesa (Jesus), or out of love for the Prophet (saw) and to exalt him, and may Allaah reward them for this love and effort, not on the fact that it is an innovation…“

From the above words is seems as if this great Imaam, Mujaahid & Scholar of Islaam, was for the mawlid and saw it as something legitimate and rewardable.

However, this is a false interpretation of his words. Here is what Ibn Taymiyyah actually said along with a better translation of the text:

و كذلك ما يحدثه بعض الناس إما مضاهاة لنصارى في ميلاد عيسى عليه السلام و إما محبة للنبي صلى الله عليه و سلم و تعظيما له و الله قد يشيبهم على هذه المحبة و الاجتهاد لا على البدع

“And like that, what some people have innovated, be it out of analogy to the Christians in the birth of ‘Eesa or be it out of love for the Prophet (saw) and honor for him and Allaah, they may be rewarded for this love and ijtihaad, not for the innovation.“

So it is clear that Ibn Taymiyyah claaed it an innovation, and saw no reward for the deed.

Jazakhayera for sharing brother i had this friend of mine she told me that her and her family celebrates the Prophet (SAWS) birthday. I refused with her statment and she was like you don't celebrates the "Mowled" i didn't knw wat is the meaning of Mowlid. Which i didn't have that much knowledged. i Also ask her that if she have proof that us as Ummah we can celebrate the Prophet (SAWS) birthday? She trys to Skip my question? I don't knw wat to do. She told me that she is "Sufi. Brother's and Sisters correct me if am wrong thank you for sharing brother. I really apporicate.

You have to explain to your friend that Deen is from Quran and Sunnah only. It is not from opinion of people or from culture , family traditions etc.

There is another book by Abu Khaliyl aswell which is very benefitial....

Simply, the best of all generations never done it.... And they loved the prophet (saw) the most...

Celebrating the milaad is a biddah, no doubt

You know celebrating this biddah has led people to more biddahs and stupid things. In Pakistan , some people even make false models of Khaana Kaaba and do tawaaf around it, similarly they make models of Masjid-e-Nabwi as well. Next day they destroy it! May Allah protect us from this big biddah and guide all of us.

You know that the best way to classsify Biddah is to check that was this act done by the companions and the tabieen and the salaf saliheen(May Allah have mercy on them all). If not then it is biddah.
