As Salamu 'Alaykum,
A scholar was once asked how he obtained such excellent character. He replied, "I listen to all criticism, especially from those who dislike me."
When I was a preacher, I used this example to teach individuals that they should listen to the message and not reject the message because of their feelings about the messenger.
Num 22:21 And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab.
Num 22:22 And God's anger was kindled because he went; and the angel of the LORD placed himself in the way for an adversary against him. - Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him. -
Num 22:23 And the ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand; and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field; and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way.
Num 22:24 Then the angel of the LORD stood in a hollow way between the vineyards, a fence being on this side, and a fence on that side.
Num 22:25 And the ass saw the angel of the LORD, and she thrust herself unto the wall, and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall; and he smote her again.
Num 22:26 And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.
Num 22:27 And the ass saw the angel of the LORD, and she lay down under Balaam; and Balaam's anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with his staff.
Num 22:28 And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam: 'What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?'
Num 22:29 And Balaam said unto the ass: 'Because thou hast mocked me; I would there were a sword in my hand, for now I had killed thee.'
Num 22:30 And the ass said unto Balaam: 'Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden all thy life long unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee?' And he said: 'Nay.'
Num 22:31 Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand; and he bowed his head, and fell on his face.
Num 22:32 And the angel of the LORD said unto him: 'Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? behold, I am come forth for an adversary, because thy way is contrary unto me;
Num 22:33 and the ass saw me, and turned aside before me these three times; unless she had turned aside from me, surely now I had even slain thee, and saved her alive.'
So, even though many of us men are like donkeys, hopefully, you will remember that Allaah uses whomever He wishes. In the Bible, Allaah often chose the weakest to humble the powerful.
There are plenty of sites which talk about hija for both men and women.
They speak about not wearing tight clothes, clothes of the other gender, clothes with designs during prayer. It mentions that The Prophet (Salla Alayhu Alayhi wa Sallam) didn't like the color yellow. And, so on. I personally started growing a beard the same day that I started to study Islam. But, in many professions and corporations a beard is not permitted. I would prefer my surgeon to be bald and hairless. Those working with food need to be especially careful about not allowing their hair to fall into the food of others. Since the beard is sunnah it is not allow to grow by some men because of employment. I personally, because of injuries which limit(ed) my activity for awhile to a power chair, am obese. I have a very hard time finding clothes. I have not yet be able to find Islamic clothes.
"O Prophet, tell your wives and daughters and the believing women to draw their outer garments around them (when they go out or are among men). Thatis better in order that they may be known (to be Muslims) and not annoyed..." (Qur'an 33:59)
"And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; and that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what must ordinarily appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands..." (Qur'an 24:30-31)
