Is it just me or do you sometimes try to picture how Allah subhana wa tala looks or even the Prophet Muhammad sallallah alahi wa salaamor even his family may blessing be upon them. I never tried to draw them or really give them distinct features like being black or white or having short or tall. But sometimes when I am praying, I wonder how does Allah look. I am not asking anyone give features, I am assuming that is Haram and If this thread is totally haram then please delete it.

My question: Do you sometimes tried to picture how Allah or Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alahi wa salaam or even his family look like?

So yes, I do imagone hat our Nabi (SAW) look like abd the other Sahabis too.

Allah forgive me if I'm saying something haraam.

I guess its natural.But in Allah's case just remember that He is the Creator and he doesnt look anything like his creation so just dismiss any thoughts on how Allah looks like.

I once imagine Allah(SWT) as a very strong light as i am standing on a montain and than it appears .First i thought it is shirk lolzz because i was on the way of learning things about islam.I went to the imam of the mosque and told him about this imagination he said its nothing with a broad smile.

sometimes i do imagine prophet musa allayhisalam and pharaoh , but i never came to imagine prophet mohammad(pbuh) in a proper way.so its just what i say figments of your thoughts i guess there is nothing wrong you just keep yourself busy with some things and they seem nothing too you.
I did tried to imagine prophet but not his family they look like but not in a proper way i mean i was unable to imagine it well .

I've pictured Allah (swt) as a bright light and when I picture Muhammad (saw) I picture the back of a man's head with brown-reddish hair. But I don't usually picture him...which is strange because I always picture what I read in my head.

Salamualaikum. For me I tried to picture Allah subhana wa tala, but when it comes to a point that I cannot imagine anymore, I think that is Allah subhana wa tala (un-imaginable). :D

Is this a hadith or from the Quran or better yet something you just made up.

First of all you give salam to your brother. Second you ask, brother can you give a proof where you got that from. Third, i don't make things up. I don't like bidah that is why i dont make up.

11. (He is) the Creator of the heavens and the earth: He has made for you pairs from among yourselves, and pairs among cattle: by this means does He multiply you: there is nothing whatever like unto Him, and He is the One that hears and sees (all things). (ashu'ara -consultations)

if you read the quran, ull find that verse mentioned few times.

If you read arabic, turn to that surra and you can read it Ashu'ara ajat 11

dears brothers and sisters,,,,ALLAH(SWT) is beyond our imagination....our imagination is to some limit....as In QURAN (translation)......
Al-Ikhlas
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Say: He is Allah, the One! (1) Allah, the eternally Besought of all! (2) He begetteth not nor was begotten. (3) And there is none comparable unto Him. (4)

i never tried nor i wanted to try to imagine how Allah swt looks like.
There are two main reasons:

1- I believe what Allah swt says about Himself

"The Originator of the heavens and the earth;
He made mates for you from among yourselves,
and mates of the cattle too, multiplying you thereby;
nothing like a likeness of Him;
and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.

2- I have not yet been able to imagine the vastness of the universe that we live in.
I have also been unable to comprehend or imagine atomic or subatomic structures.

Realising that my mind can only imagine things that are to a certain degree large or small and not beyond that,
I tried not to imagine its creator as it will be naive and futile.

Wassalam

We have been given detailed description of what our Prophet (s) looked like, if we dont study that then how are we going to recognise him on Yaum-ul Qiyamah? We're going to have to find him on that day aren't we?

I think its impossible to imagine Allah (s) that could be akin to shirk, because as human beings, anything in our head is associated with something in Dunya because thats all we know or have ever been exposed to.

dear sister isra shirk in short is something which occurs practically ok so please dont scare like this you know shirk Allah(SWT) never forgives and it is not that sensitive as if you just think or imagine you will lose your faith you see we all are human beings yes i do agree that it is completely impossible to imagine Allah(SWT) but there can come many thoughts in your mind what can you do if you got mind than you will get thoughts.

salam,
i begin with an example, sometimes you want to visit a place "let say the dentist" then you call the reception to fix a rendez-vous, and when you are talking on the phone you imagine this called party "draw a picture of him". ok, you have fix the rendez-vous and you have gone to visit this place and you find that the picture drawing for this called party is wrong and very different of the real.

this is only with human being, but you try to imagine Allah, you get the space.
the same thing can be applied to prophets.

so when we pray, we should ask Allah to give us the level of prophets so we can see them and also give us a chance to see Him Sobhanaho.

may Allah guid us to his light.

Allah al mo3in

Art is my Expression
I dont think so

I dont think its haram. Visual imagery is something that happens in our minds naturally. Its how the brain keeps track of the words and matches with crresponding images to help you better understand the situation. Thats just how we are born, you cant really control that. Its in a subconcious level.

I didnt say it was actually shirk i said 'it could be akin to', but i dont know, im not a scholar.

Human beings with vivid imaginations could have a serious problem in trying not to imagine Allah (s).

I just stick to the parable of the light 'Allah is the light of the heavens and the earth' that seems pretty safe.
