Has anyone a (thorough) comparison between Democracy and the Sharia?
I am not able to explain it, but I hope you know what I mean.

Democracy – As democrats say ‘government made for the people by the laws of people’. And Their slogan is ‘by, for and to the people’.generally it considers all equal and follow secular ideas. The laws could be changed and new laws could be framed. That is laws have no firm foundation. New laws could be framed or existing laws could be changed if government thinks for that. some countries have different laws from state to state in democracy, example – usa. Democracy works upon secular ideas. That is the people of all religion are considered equal and religion is separated from the politics. Muslims living in those countries or other non-muslim countries have ‘muslim personal law boards’ or ‘shura councils’ as it is haraam to be ruled by law other than that of Allah and keeps muslims out of fold of Islam.( reference to underline text - shaykh bin baz rahimahullah on nullifiers of islam.)

Shariah – the laws and islamic constitution based upon the Quran, authentic sunnah and Concensus (ij’maa) of pious predecessors is shariah. These three are infallibles of islam. Other than these are fallible, that means can be wrong at times. The islamic laws are built upon these three infallibles. Further for the doubtful matters, ijtihaad ( arriving upon the opinion or thought, strictly with reference to understanding of Quran sunnah, and concensus of pious predecessors) is done by scholars, only if it is possible and necessary for the ummah. the Ruling is made pertaining to the matter. As for example a matter under ijtihad is ‘ test-tube baby’. Proper care is taken in doing ijtihad to arrive at particular thought. Shariah laws could not be changed because Allah has made them and obligatory for muslims to follow them. If laws are broken than if there is way of expiation, than expiation and sincere repentance has to be made or if there is punishment like hudood (also called hadd) etc than it has to be done. It depends upon the crime done. Piety and adherence to sunnah differ people unlike democracy that takes good and bad in the same basket with no particular criteria. One who is more upholding to quran and sunnah is better muslim than the others. Shariah prescribes the way of leading life according to will of Allah and submission to Him alone. It is inseparable part of political system and state administration.

Hope clarified and if erred than else can clarify . Further the subject could be elaborated and many points could come out. and Allah knows the best.

Assalamu Alikum,

Sarojini Naidu, famous Indian freedom fighter, on Islam:

"It was the first religion that preached and practised democracy, for in the mosque when [from] the minaret [the call to prayer] is sounded and the worshippers are gathered together, the democracy of Islam is embodied five times a day when the peasant and the king kneel side by side and proclaim, "God alone is great." "

Democracy is only a system of governance invented by man;
Islam is the Only System of Life Decreed and Approved by the Lord of the Worlds!

In a democracy, people who are elected make laws based on the vote of the majority;
In Islam, all laws are made by Allah and His Messenger (saws), and based on the Creator’s Perfect and Absolute Knowledge and Wisdom.

In a democracy, the leaders are at the mercy of the opinion of the majority of their voters; if the leaders do not have the support of the majority of the population, they are thrown out of office;
in Islam, The Creator is the Absolute Authority. If all the people of the world obey Him or disobey Him, it makes absolutely no difference to His Majesty and His Authority! He remains Supreme over all His creation.

Democracy is an ideology available to man for the past 230 odd years!;
Islam was introduced to the first man and Prophet sent to the earth!

Democracy is an ideology invented by man;
The ideology of Islam was created by the Perfect Creator, Who created man, and this man created the concept of democracy!

Democracy is a system which may or may not work for man to live a life of peace and harmony in this world;
Islam is the name of that Perfect System of Life which is guaranteed to work in the life of this world, and guaranteed to succeed in the life of the Hereafter!

Democracy is a system of governance which is ‘good’ for mankind;
Islam is a System of Life which is the absolute BEST for mankind!
