Fixing da foundation
:salam2:
I have to say a Speech about Islam (I decided the topic) in about roughly 2 weeks, and I have written it out. But I have no idea of how to perform this speech.
It is to a Non-Muslim crowd (15-20 people, 17-19 yrs). It is at my school.
I want to leave an impact on the crowd, is there anything that I should do? Should I change my tones to match the sentence or what?
Please I am at an utter loss for how to do this speech.
Please help me, may Allah SWT reward you.
Here is my speech.
********************************************************
Good Morning/Afternoon.
Before I start my speech I would just like to say that:
Firstly I do not intend to offend anyone, or what they believe in.
Secondly I do not want to come up here and rant or to preach, only to inform.
Thirdly I am not the most religious person in the world, so please dont hold anything against me.

Laa ilaaha lila Allaah
Praise and Glory be to Allah, the Most Exalted, the Most Gracious.
Bismillahi walhamdulillahi wa salathu wa salam a'la rasoolillahi salallahu alayhi wa salam.
After praising all mighty god and praying for peace to be bestowed upon the last messenger of God, i greet you with the Islamic greetings... Asalamu alaikkum wa rahmathullahi wa barakathuhu. May the peace, mercy and blessings of Almighty God be upon all of you
Islam.
Whats the first thing that drifts into your mind?...
Iv'e realized from experience that people dont really know much about it.
Iv'e been asked questions like;
"Oh yeah Islam, isnt that like christianity?"
"Do Muslims worship Muhammad??"
"What is Jihad?"
Across the world, billions of people are being influenced by what they watch, listen to and read in the media. Some of the media propaganda seen today about Islam, causes for misconceptions and sterotypical views. This has lead to much misunderstandings and backlash, causing friction amongst fellow human beings.
Hopefully I can break some of those misconceptions and cover a few important topics.Which are:
1. What is Islam and what does the word mean?
a) Who are the Muslims and and what do they believe in?
b) Do Islam and Christianity have different origins?
c) What is the Ka'bah?
d) Who is Muhammad and how did he become a Prophet and a Messenger of God?
2. What is the Qur'an and what does it say about Terrorism?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. What is Islam and what does the word mean?
Islam is not a new religion, but the same truth that Allah revealed through all His Prophets to every people. For a fifth of the world's population, Islam is both a religion and a complete way of life. Muslims follow a religion of peace, mercy, and forgiveness, and the majority have nothing to do with the extremely grave events, which have come to be associated with their faith through a biased media.
This is a unique religion with a name which signifies a moral attitude and a way of life. Judaism takes its name from the tribe of Juda, Christianity from Jesus Christ, Buddhism from Goutam Buddha and Hinduism from Indus River.
Do you not know my dear people, the word islam itself means submission, peace acquired by submitting your will to God Almighty. 'Muhammadanism' is thus incorrect, because it suggests that Muslims worship Muhammad rather than Allah. "Allah" is the Arabic name for God, which is used by Arab Muslims and Christians alike.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.a) Who are the Muslims and and what do they believe in?
Over one billion people from a vast range of races, nationalities and cultures across the globe - from the southern Philippines to Nigeria - are united by their common Islamic faith. About 18% live in the Arab world; the world's largest Muslim community is Indonesia; substantial parts of Asia and most parts of Africa are Muslim, while significant minorities are to be found in Russia, China, North and South America, and Europe.
Muslims believe in One, Unique, Incomparable God; in the Angels created by Him; in the Prophets through whom His revelations were brought to mankind; in the Day of Judgement and the individual accountability for actions; in God's complete authority over human destiny and in life after death. Muslims believe in a chain of Prophets starting with Adam and including Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Job, Moses, Aaron, David, Solomon, Elijah, Jonah, John and Jesus, alayhimus salam (which we also believe to be the Messiah). But God's final message to man, a reconfirmation of the eternal message and a summing-up of all that has gone before, was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad through Archangel Gabriel.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.b) Do Islam and Christianity have different origins?
No. Together with Judaism, they go back to the Prophet and Patriarch Abraham, alayhi salam, and their three Prophets are directly descended from his sons - Muhammad from the eldest, Ishmael, and Moses and Jesus from Isaac. Abraham established the settlement, which today is the city of Makkah, and built the Ka'bah towards which all Muslims turn when they pray
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.c) What is the Ka'bah?
The Ka'bah is the place of worship which Allah commanded Abraham and Ishmael to build over four thousand years ago. The building was constructed of stone on what was the original site of the sanctuary established by Adam. God commanded Abraham to summon all mankind to visit this place, and when pilgrims go there today, they say 'At Thy service, O Lord,' in response to Abraham's call.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.d) Who is Muhammad and how did he become a Prophet and a Messenger of God?
Muhammad was born in Makkah Al-Mukarramah in the year 570 AD , at a time when Christianity was not yet fully established in Europe. Since his father died before his birth, and his mother shortly afterwards, he was raised by his uncle from the respected tribe of Quraysh. As he grew up, he became known for his truthfulness, generosity and sincerity, so that he was sought after for his ability to negotiate in disputes. The historians describe him as calm and meditative.
Muhammad was of a deeply religious nature, and had long detested the decadence of his society. It became his habit to meditate from time to time in the Cave of Hira near the summit of Jabal Al-Nur, the 'Mountain of Light' near Makkah
At the age of 40, while engaged in meditative retreat, Muhammad received his first revelation from Allah through the Angel Gabriel. This revelation, which continued for twenty three years, is known as the Qur'an.
As soon as he began to recite the words he heard from Gabriel, and to preach the truth which Allah had revealed to him, he and his small group of followers suffered bitter persecution, which grew so fierce that in the year 622 AD, Allah gave them the command to emigrate. This event, the Hijrah, 'migration,' in which they left Makkah for the city of Madinah some 420 kilometres to the north, marks the beginning of the Muslim calendar.
After several years, the Prophet died at the age of 63, and within a century of his death, Islam had spread to Spain in the West and as far East as China.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. What is the Qur'aan and what does it say about Terrorism?
Allah sent messages to his prophets through his Angels. These messages were compiled into holy books. The most famous of these books are the Psalms, the Torah, the Bible and the Qur'aan.
The Qur'an is a record of the exact words revealed by Allah through the Angel Gabriel, alayhi salam, to the Prophet Muhammad . It was memorized by Muhammad and then dictated to his Companions, and written down by scribes, who cross*!checked it during his lifetime. Not one word of its 114 chapters, Surahs, has been changed over the centuries, so that the Qur'an is in every detail the unique and miraculous text, which was revealed to Muhammad fourteen centuries ago.
Of course Islam stands firmly against terrorism. To be sure, "terrorism" is a recent term and for obvious reasons you cannot find it in the Qur'an, Hadith, or any old scriptures of other religions for that matter.
What Qur'an and Hadith do spell out clearly is that human life is sacred and that spilling blood of innocent people is a major sin and a major crime. Islam declares that killing another human being is a crime against humanity.
"On that account: We ordained for the Children of Israel that if anyone slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole people: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people." [Qur'an, Al-Maidah 5:32].
It does not distinguish between believers and non-believers in granting that sacred right to life.It tells us that even in war, Muslim soldiers are not to kill women, children, and even non-combatant men. They are not even to destroy trees.
Islam does emphasize justice most strongly and calls for "an eye for an eye." But it does not mean an innocent eye for an innocent eye. It means the eye of the perpetrator for the eye of the victim. The perpetrators must be punished but you cannot punish one person for the crime of another.
The indiscriminate killing of innocents is offensive to Islam, whether it is given the label of "terrorism" or of "war against terrorism."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hopefully I have not bored you for too long, Although this is a very very brief introduction to Islam. I would like to think I have increased your knowledge and helped you understand just a little bit more and before I go I would like to leave you with a question:
"For what purpose do we exist?"
Please feel free to ask me further questions and i welcome all of you with open hands to Islam.
Thank you for listening, you have been a great audience.
