Assalamu'alaikum,

Today is the eve of New Hijri Calendar. Tonight, like every year, there will be special "year-end du'a" recital and du'a to usher the New Year. See du'a in below link I found:

http://www.al-mubin.org/index.php?o...m-islamic-new-year-&catid=1:articles&Itemid=2

I never took part so far, our muftis are aware about such practices so I dare not to comment. Is there any fatwa regarding this?

Jazakallah khair for all your replies.

I am Sorry brother but there is no dua for Muharram in the Sunnah at all and this is a custom. Shias (Rafidhees) mention several duas but none of those are in the Sunnah so a person should refrain from these practices and only practice what is in the Sunnah which is the fasting around the 10th of Muharram (Ashura).

Then fasting around the 10th of Muharram (Ashura) is based on the sayings of Nabi :saw: and not the martyrdom of Sayyidina Hussain (R.A.) although it is indeed a tragic event of Islamic history.

I am not very knowledgeable so I would like to be corrected by you or someone else.

Assalamua`alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh,

This may not directly answer your question but something related to the New Hijri.

Arabic: http://www.islamqa.info/ar/ref/21290

English: http://www.islamqa.info/en/ref/21290

One thing to note:

Rather, you should know that the Salaf did not (even) regard the month of Muharram as the beginning of the New Year until during the Caliphate of Umar ibn al-Khattab (radhi allahu anhu)

Yeah, me neither, do not take part in such occasion anymore since there is no daleel of its practices (3 times reading Yaasin for 3 wishes, fasting on the 1st Muharram etc)

Akhi, maybe you can read this (sorry, it's in Malay everyone): http://abuumair1.wordpress.com/2008/12/26/doa-awal-dan-akhir-tahun/. It was forwarded by Dr Abdul Basith Abdul Rahman (Ustaaz Abu Anas Madani).

BarakaAllaahu feeka for bringing this up.

Wa`alaykum as-salaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh.

As a revert i learned Alhamdullilah islam pure from start and i hope Allah will guide us to keep it clean, without additions and alterations.

I have a question, when someone offers you congratulations, then after respond to him, it is good or not so good to advice him and to remember him that this is not from sunnah ?

I'm your brother
Brother tic_tac_toe, I've no clue from they pick up this practice.

Sister Humaira, thanks for the link.

Sister Hajjer, normally I will reply as "thank you". Not sure it is sunnah or not.
