my experience

Peace to those who follow the guidance,

Well, I just wanted to share with you this experience of mine.

When I finished my first year of uni, I applied for a job, to keep me busy throughout my holidays. Alhamdula heaps of places offered me positions including my dream job. I of couse chose my dream job, it was very difficult getting in, both my sister and I applied along with literally hundreds of other people and alhamdula I was one of the few successful applicants. I was over the moon when I got my foot in through the door, they payed me way above average and the job was within minutes of where I live.

I worked there for three months, every day being such a pleasure, true, it would get very stressful at times but that's only natural. As I was working, I had a feeling my income may not be haram because I dealt with haram products. I asked a lot of people about it but kept getting mixed responses. Finally I decided to resign, all for the pleasure and fear of my lord, Allah sw.

I don't know you people nor do you all know me so I hope there isn't any hidden riya (pride, showing off) behind this post. Today was my last shift, my collegues were all saying bye to me, they had purchased me a cake as well :shymuslima1:. Now I feel like crying because I gave up something which my friends only dream of for the sake of Allah sw. It makes me feel good, I just hope that the One who I did it for accepts it from me.

To all you who love music or do other things which you know is haram, just give it up for the pleasure of Allah sw and see what an amazing emotion you feel. Next time you ask Allah sw for something, bring up this act of good deed in the hope that Allah sw will accept your prayer because of it. There is a narration that talks of three young man who got stuck in a cave by a falling rock. Those three men were freed after stating the good deeds they done for the sake of Allah sw.

If only I knew for a fact my money was not halal, I would give it all away to charity. My dear sisters and brothers, this life is very short, today you are eating, tomorrow you will be eaten, today you dress yourself, tomorrow, you will be dressed, today you wash yourself, tomorrow you will be washed. When you were born, you were crying while everybody was laughing, so pray that when you die, you will be the one laughing while everyone will be the ones crying.

Be the best person you can be, pray for one another, forgive each other, love one another, respect one another, help one another and never stop talking to one another. Let's truely leave our footprints on the face of this earth for all the right reasons. Lets be a bunch of people who when we die, the earth and the skies morn our death.

I say this from the bottom of my heart, I truely love you all for the sake of Allah sw. I want to see you all succeed at the highest levels, I want to see you all happy and most importantly, I want to, inshala, see you all in Heaven, even if it be from hell.

Asalaamu aleikum,

Congratulations sister on making such an important decision! May Allah reward you for it, and I hope your example inspires others to leave any association they might have with things that are haram. I also want to encourage you by reminding you that for anyone who forsakes something for the cause of Allah, Allah will bring something better in its place. Believe it!

I had a similar situation happen to me about 1 1/2 years ago. I am a revert Muslim, and so have been acquiring more and more knowledge about Islam with each passing day. And in the process, I recognize things I am required to change for the sake of Allah. I used to work as a consultant for a real estate developer. The job required that I deal with interest constantly - Almost all the bills that had to be paid had some kind of interest associated with them! I did not know when I first started working there that interest was haram, but as soon as I found out I was really disturbed by the work I was doing. Also, I was uncomfortable in the work environment, because sometimes I would have to be alone in the office with my boss, who was a man. It was not that he did anything inappropriate, but I knew it was not an ideal situation for a Muslim woman to be in.

So I decided I needed to leave that job ASAP, and just prayed that Allah would lead me to another one that would be good for me and pleasing to him. Well, wouldn't you know it, but the VERY FIRST job I applied for I was accepted! And not only that, it has really been an ideal job for me in so many ways. It is exactly the concentration of work I want to be in and I have opportunities to grow & develop my skills; everyone in my department is female; and I have my own office so it is easy for me to have privacy in order to pray. AND I do not have to deal with interest at all! The company has quite a lot of money in reserves, so they have no need to deal with any loans that have interest. It feels so good to be sustained on an income that is 100% halal.

So keep up the faith, and may Allah reward you for your decision. If we trust and rely on Allah, Allah will provide us with an honorable sustinance.

God bless

:salam2: everybody,

Wow I am amazed at the response I recieved from you all, so thanks everyone. I actually thought that thread would be closed as soon as I posted it.

Alhamdula I am honoured to know my post actually had an effect on some of you and for others it and made you think twice about your job for indeed that is why I posted that thread in the first place.

When I posted that thread, I was very emotional. I woke up in the morning the following day and just thought, arrrhh what a feeling, to know I am not committing a sin, and not just any random sin, but a continous and intentional sin just to make some money. I know that satan will do the best he can to stop me from resigning from the job that earned Allah sw displeasure.

In Islam, everything is or can be worship, I couldn't imagin working so many hours, tiring, sweating and yet not getting any reward for it from Allah sw, what a loss would that be??? In fact, not just not getting hasanat (good deeds), rather earning sayiat (bad deeds)!

There is a hadith that says the son of Adam raises his hands and says "ya rub, ya rub" (calls on Allah sw) but how can his prayers be accepted when his food is haram, when his clothing is haram etc etc. I know my income from a job which I was convinced was haram would also be haram. Well actually I wasn't convinced my job was haram, I just had a strong feeling it would be haram because of the nature of the job. There is another hadith that says when one dies, his stomach will be the first part of his body to decay so make him nourish himself in a halal manner.

You never know when we die, imagin the Angel of death taking your soul away at the exact moment when you were dealing with something abhored in the sight of Allah sw. Know that Allah sw is not only our Lord but He is also our Sustainer and The Appreciator. Allah sw sustain us just as He sustains the birds.

When I told my family about my decision to resign, they of course didn't like it, but who is more important for pleasing, my family or Allah sw? At the end of the day, it's me and my deeds, not me and my family.

May Allah sw reward all of you with the best,
