Stupid superstitions in which muslims believe!

:salam2:,

in India, many muslims belive in things which are against principles of Islam. they must have borrowed it from Hinduism (and Allah knows best).

here they are:

1. if black cat crosses ur path, change the path to avoid some mishappening.

2. if glass breaks, some good will happen.

3. burn red chillies to avoid evil eye.

laughable and very sad also. may Allah save us all from this attitude.

do u have urs to share?

yes brother i m agree with ur points but these are not problems i mean not in india also pakistan and other countries where people do not have the knowledge of islam so they follow every thing blindly.when they look other people play their role or doing any work in the name of islam so they follow it very purily and think that they are doing very good things, now world have totally changed.people are very found to know about deen through references.this is plus point.
secondly many people do not accept any thing because their mind do not accept it so they avoid to listen or read any thing which is related to deen.
third thing which i want to say that is to be broad minded at that time it is very important thing for us i mean for muslims to have vast knowledge about deen so that we can guide others people.
if some body want to tell ur points about it and consider it that my points is not good that can tell me.ok

agree with sister robab.my in laws are severly exposed to biddah.like they say dont wear black color it is not lucky for us.
when someone is sad they would say slaugheter black goat it is good.
they say dont clean your room after asr prayer with broom.and ssooo many things you name it.if i ask them could you please show me any hadeeth or ayah about what you say they would say you are making fun of us and never listen to me .consider me as a most ignorant person.

its good you are not in Saudi Arabia, otherwise it would have been very difficult for you to wear black burqa which is compulsory here.:SMILY335:

about brooming after asr, in the past there were no light, so maybe ppl told not to broom as precious thing could go into dustbin. And these ppl made it way of life.

may Allah help us all.

burn red chillies to avoid evil eye.

People in my relatives do this :(
Sometimes they dont listen to the younger ones, they think they "know it all"

What about when u choke it means someone's remembering you
Thats wierd but yeah.. lol

Don't sleep between asr and maghrib it will cause the loss of your wealth (this is actually not *entirely incorrect*..there's a hadith about not sleeping between asr and maghrib..but it has *nothing* to do with *wealth*..it has to do with Shayateen coming out at that time and for you to be asleep is to make yourself an open target for their evil so it's best that you do not nap or sleep then)

If your left eye twitches..you'll hear bad news..if the right one twitches..it is good news

If your left ear buzzes..someone is speaking ill of you..if the right one buzzes..someone is speaking good of you

Don't put teacups (the tiny Turkish coffee style ones) upside down when you arrange them..it brings problems for the household

Blue stones or "the blue eye stone" protects from envy
(this is veerrrryyy common where I come from)

Don't sew anything at night..it will bring bad luck to the household

Don't use the scissors at night..it will "cut away" your wealth

Don't laugh until tears come out of your eyes..or you will *cry* due to a *misfortune*

Ask young children questions about the outcome of events..their innocense gives them the power to predict things
(this one is horrible I know!)

A visitor from far will come if food flies out of the pan or the pot
(I think a really bad cook started this one as a justification for the mess they make lol)
There are so many..but I cannot think of them all..even though normally I do..because they make me laugh so much :)

i will add one more thing if you right eye blinks it means someone remembers you lol what if left blinks
i have joke in this regard
once a man went to fortune teller

he said to him,' my right hand is aching'
the najoomi repleyed;' you are going to have money'
next day he again went to najoomi n said;' my left hand is aching'
he replyed;'you'll lose money'
next day he again reached him n said;' may left foot is aching (poooof)'
he repled;' you'll go on journey'
next day he was there n said; my right foot is aching'lol
the najoomi replyed in anger; ' o don't make me sick go to dermatologist you might have skin aching' lol (tumhaheen tu kharish pari huwi hay ja kay doctor ko dikhawo) :SMILY335: :D:D:D

Praise be to Allah!
As salamu alaikkum wa rahmathullah... My little sister had a silly one, "If you keep your broken tooth under your bed, a Fairy will pop out at night and grant you a wish", apparently a rat or something of that sort under the bed scared her away from doing that the next time alhamdulillah :)

Like sister a_muslimah said "If your left eye twitches..you'll hear bad news..if the right one twitches..it is good news"

^^^ Those are things my mum used to say back in the days.

I have heard another common one which people link to Islam "If you dream at the time of fajr, it will come out to be true" :s

Some thing funny is a sufi a masjid where they sit in a circle with the imaam in the middle. People throw pebbles towards him, and whose ever pebble reaches the closest to the imaam, then he gets loads of rewards. Likewise another Sufi masjid, asks for £10,000 and they will give you a certificate. With this certificate you can attain jannah without any problems (Funny, but is a great problem in our ummah).

The funniest thing is where they have a chair in this sufi masjid and believe that prophet Muhammed salallahu alaihi wa salam is sitting there. When they leave the masjid, they walk backwards, because they are not allowed to show their backs to prophet Muhammed salallahu alaihi wa salam. LOL I really wonder how many people have tripped over because of that :p

This is the best one, coz i did this too LOL.
Throw ur broken teeth over the roofs

Don't do any good thing ( like wedding or any other functions) on the first 13 days in the month of SAFAR as there are more calamities coming down on earth in these days. ( this took my toll as i was not even suppose to go out and play)

I believe every culture/country has its own superstitions and beliefs. some are funny and some weired.

assalamu alaikum,
thanks brother for your thread but i think those are just superstitions, religion has nothing to do with that. there are superstitions in every country and every region.

i think taking rest after asr is sunnah!

It's actually after *dhuhur* akhi..there are hadiths regarding it..if you have the time you should look them up..they are quite intriguing I must say..as they speak of a Sunnah which many of us have ignored..which is *napping* during the day :)
