Assalamu 'alaykum. :D

Recently, someone called me a "Wahabi" because I said that I don't listen to music and keeps sending me messages about how the "founder" of Wahaabism was a murderer and all that.

What and who exactly was this Sheikh?

This is the message btw:

Assalam Alaikum:

Wahabi is a derogatory word used by some deviant sects for Salafis, intending to manifest that Salafism is also a sectarian identity. Though undoubtedly Salafis are near to way of Muhammad (SAW) and Sahaba except when they go extreme.

Who are the Wahhaabis and what is their message?

Praise be to Allaah.

It is obligatory upon the Muslim to follow the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), according to the way of the righteous salaf who followed the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), the Sahaabah and those who followed them – may Allaah be pleased with them all. These people are called Ahl al-Sunnah wa’l-Jamaa’ah (the People of the Sunnah and the Community). Everyone who follows the way brought by the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is one of them. The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) brought the message of Tawheed (absolute Oneness of Allaah) and rejection of shirk (polytheism, or association of others with Allaah); he called people to worship Allaah alone and none other. With regard to the word “Wahhaabis”, some people use this word to refer to the message of Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhaab ibn Sulaymaan al-Tameemi al-Hanbali (may Allaah have mercy on him), and they call him and his followers Wahhaabis. Everyone who has any knowledge of the movement of Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhaab (may Allaah have mercy on him) and his message knows that he sought to spread the message of pure Tawheed and to warn against shirk in all its forms, such as attachment to the dead, or to trees and rocks, etc. In his ‘aqeedah (belief), he was following the way of the righteous Salaf and the Taabi’een [i.e., the earliest generations of Islam], as is indicated by his books and fatwas, and the books of his followers among his sons and grandsons and others. All of these books are in print and are in circulation among the people. His message was in accordance with the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). Wahhaabism is not a new way or a new school of thought; rather it is a call to Tawheed and the revival of aspects of the religion that had been forgotten. What you have to do is to beware of those who warn you against the Wahhaabis, because they are warning you against following the truth and the early generation of this ummah. Applying the word “Wahhaabis” to those who adhere to correct belief and warning people against them is the way of the ignorant and biased. We ask Allaah to keep you safe and sound.

Assalamu allaicum wa raahmatullah wa baarkatuhu dear sister

I know how you feel dear sister, because I was also called Wahabbi for saying that celebrating any kind of Mawluds is not from Islaam. And I know as well that many Muslim brothers and sisters are caled Wahaabi for sticking comletely to Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Mohammed sallahu alahy wa saalam and practise of Islaam from his Sahabhs r.a and first generations of Muslims.

Dear sister you can try to find this book which I have posted once in my thread, which is about Sheikh Mohammed Abdul Wahab( May Allah have mercy on him) and that his interpretation of Islaam is nothing new like some Muslims think but it is only from teaching of Quran and Sunnah. Many Muslims feel confused which way to foloow in Islaam, although Islaam is clear in Quraan and Sunnah, but because of so many devaited sects Astagfirullah, some Muslims are went astray folowing some inovations which do not have anything with pure Islaam, and those who foloow right and stick to Sunnah, are calling them Wahabis Astagfirullah.

Here is the link dear sister http://www.turntoislam.com/forum/showthread.php?t=75619

May Allah guide us all the right path.

Walykumusalaam warahmatullah wabarakatuhu my dear sister...

people often use the term "Wahabi" to insult the next person. The correct terminology is "salafi", it refers to those that follow the foot steps of the Salaf (the Prophet (saw)). I have been called a wahabi since the age of 12 subhanAllah, because it was during that age when i decided not to practice my culture and become firm on the deen, and the deen only ALHUMDULILAH! before when someone used to call me a "Wahabi" it really used to hurt me, but now I feel its a privelge to be called a "wahabi" lol..... I dont care about what people say, because Allah knows my intentions, and in final analysis my Judgement is with Allah not people.....

Oh Allah show us the light, the light of Islam ameen.

I had to remove the article posted by the thread starter as it was just trying to propagate hatred amongst us and mislead people into slandering one of the great scholars of Ahl Us Sunnah of our times.

It is very unfortunate that people go to lengths to attack and revile noble and well respected scholar(s) just because of these people's personal desires and whims to follow Islam in their own misguided mannerism. Mohammad Ibn Abdul Wahaab rahimullah's dawah was against this misguided practices that were prevalent in his times as well as are present today is some parts of the world. Therefore Mohammad Ibn Abdul Wahab rahimullah is a scholar we should all try to read about and cultivate respect in our hearts for him & benefit from his books and dawah as they are really marvelous and beneficial works for us common muslims.

I would like to remind myself and others also, that respecting and honoring the Ulema upon the truth of the past and present is from the characteristics of people who identify themselves as being part of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama'a. So let us neither take part or even be sympathetic to anyone who reviles our noble scholars.

I would recommend reading the following book in english if you would like to educate yourself with regards to this great scholar. May Allah azz zawajal have mercy on him. Ameen

Ah, gotcha like me one again, subhan Allah

I was talking to my friend, and they go to grave of some "pious" peer yearly and make 'urs'

me: but this is shirk, shirk al-akbar
he : you are talking like a wahhabi. are you wahhabi?
me : what is wahhabi?
he: wahhabis are people who follow the a man named ibn abdul wahhab, thye are extremist and they demolish all the graves of sahabas and also they tried to destroy Rasul salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam's grave, but Allah destroyed them.
me: but what is the dealing with grave.
he: dont be wahhabi and don't earn la'nat of Allah

so I went home and searched for his biography and found controversial reports.
then I found two books and I printed one of them 'Kitab at-tawheed' the next and read it in one day (as far I remember)
subhan Allah, I found nothing wrong

then I found his another book in my own language: kashfush shubuhat, subhan Allah both were awesome books.

I didnt find anything wrong,a dn the 2nd book I received from my friend, he gave me wrapping it with another paper, so that no one sees that. then he said be careful, if someone sees you, there might be some problem.

then I asked some others, they said: even police find his book in home, they will take you in custody!!! subhan Allah

Imam Muhammad Ibn Abdul wahhab, didnt bring a new madhahab or new sect.
he just revived the Quran and Sunnah again. in his book, there is not a single line from him, just direct quote from Quran and sahih hadeeth.

everytime whoever wants to say the truth, and clear verses, there is some problem.

And Allah azza wa jal knows the best

may Allah help us to uphold the truth, be in the straight path and to be stick to Quran and sunnah

wa alaikum salam
