Don't over-complicate things, sometimes the answer is a simple one! If you're in doubt about a particular practice then stay away from it, instead find out what the Sunnah is and follow that.

Yes she can be a lawyer! The purpose of law is supposed to be fairness and equality for all, obviously people abuse that in today's society, but if she works to bring rights to those who don't have them, she is using her knowledge for good. We definately need more lawyers (both male and female)...
