So I went to a Muslim clothing store and bought my first kufi :D. I'm excited that I have my first muslim "accessory". I looked at the thobes they have, but I think I'm still not ready to wear a thobe yet. After I bought it I immediately wore it and walked around...it's still a predominantly Arab/Muslim area so everything is cool :). So next time insha Allah I'll try wearing it more often..and see how it feels like.

I have an Asian look so I don't "look" muslim. Sometimes when I give salaam other people would be surprised and ask "Oh you're muslim?"..hopefully if I'm wearing the kufi they'll recognize it!

Masha Allah I've been greeted by other muslims while wearing it. Today the cashier on a grocery store asked if I'm Muslim and turns out that the lady is a muslim too..

And talking to a sister on campus, she told me that for a guy its almost impossible to tell if he's muslim or not. If you're the only muslim in the area/school..it's a bit exciting to know that there are other muslims too.

Congratulations brother.. I am proud of you.. I have just been listening to Shaikh Ahmed Deedat's lecture titled "If the label shows your intention, wear it" He talks about many interesting points I have not thought about before... worth listening to..

Here it is if anyone is interested:

I still don't wear it full time, but every other time I go out I try to "rock" it.

Now I don't really want to wear it to attract attention (Is it riya' this way??)
But come to think of it.. for example I love sports..and I do have some fan apparel, be it jerseys with team logo, cap with logo, or just t-shirts with my university/favorite team script on it. Why? Because you want to somehow show that you support them, and sometimes..you are even proud to wear it. Especially if your team just won a big game :).

So back to the kufi thing..it's one of the accessories associated with Islam. It might not be as obvious as a hijab the sisters wear, but I think it's pretty noticeable. We men are not ordered to wear it..but I'm starting to enjoy it :D.

If someone can strike up a random conversation about let's say a football team because you are wearing the shirt..it's even nicer if you can exchange salaams because you're rocking Islamic gear.

:) :)

Thx brother..I'm into the 4th part and he still hasn't touched on the label aspect yet. He's all over the place (but still good knowledge though).
