I quit my job

Asalaamu alaikum...

Well, yesterday I did it. After a year of 90 mile commute each direction, taking up to 2 hours to get to work & get home...missing prayer times on the road, getting varicose veins and blood clots in my legs, my diabetes going through the roof due to stress...I prayed istikhara and the path opened in front of me. I walked into my job yesterday and wrote up my resignation. I have worked for 12 years with this company. Its a big change, but I feel good, if a bit nervous. This will also help me get out of the 2 riba I pay each month, my car payment and my house...

My dream now is to work inshallah in the Mid East. I still have an application pending in Kuwait, and I have a friend in Jeddah KSA looking for me as well. I have a friend in UAE recommending Dubai but to me that is the Las Vegas of the Arabian peninsula.

So anyway ... make dua for me, if you would please, that Allah makes it easy for me to understand His Will... inshallah.

JazakAllah khairyn

Assalaam walikum,

Alhumdullila.

You have freed yourself from the rat race. Allah subhana talla is the Provider. He has blessed you with another door. Insha'Allah, you will never look back.

You are always in my dua. You have made so many correct decisions; ( don't tell anyone but you are kinda/sorta brave.).

Thank you, my brothers and sisters...

I had decided to take a month off at the end of May, to return on July 1st. But after talking with my doctors about the medical issues and the stress, I prayed 2 rakaat istakhara (I know I am saying that wrong) and left it up to Allah. I couldn't get on disability because I technically am not disabled since I CAN work, I just can't work THERE. My doctor bumped my return date up to July 11, but I realized that we were just delaying the inevitable.

So yesterday I donned my best thobe & topi, put on my shiny cuff links, my nice kuffain and went in dressed as a Muslim and went in to resign (I know that this is totally irrelevant, but as I almost never wore my thobe to work I wanted to represent on my last day!).

Afterward I stopped off at a hospital to visit a non-Muslim friend who is recovering from a long illness - I could use the hasanat! - and came home, doing the 90 mile drive for the last time inshallah.

I'm getting a lot of the "OMG what were you THINKING???" emails and txt from friends and family but alhamduillah all my Muslim friends are supportive of me.

that is nice akhi, i wish i could do the same but i feel a bit of insecurity here, but i can imagine the response or the face expression of the people while looking at you :D

inshAllah everything happens for a reason bro, there must be a better way for you, the decisions we make and then the decision HE makes, and the decision HE makes is perfect for us, this is my personal observation..

congtars for a new start, inshAllah everything will gonna be on track..

masha Allah brother, you've got guts, it takes a courage to do what you did, i have a sister who still works in a company where everyday she gets verbal abuse from her co-workers but if she quits, she's afraid she won't get another job. may Allah gives you a better job and a better situation where you won't be hindered to worship Him.

PS: just don't go to dubai okay, there is still many good places like KSA to find a job.

90 miles each way for 12 years! you are one patient man.
right decision in the end except that you now join the long line of people seeking employment. if you an teach English than you should find a job somewhere in the mid-east fairly quickly.

Oh no, the 90 miles each way has only been for the past year, before that for the previous year it was about 70 (they moved the office in June of 2009). Either way, its been too much of my life.

But thank you all for your support!!

Well even if you get a job in Dubai, you should sill accept it. It may be a las vegas but its a muslim majority las vegas lol.

Dubai has the Azan 5 times a day and day-offs on Fridays. Not too mention you will be very close to Mekkah compared to where you live now.

But Allah SWT knows best.
