For references (if you can read Arabic) confirming that Lady `Aa'isha, may God have been pleased with her, was 19 when she married the Prophet (PBUH), see this article.
I just did! See a list of them in the link in my post.
Volume 5, Book 58, Number 234:
Narrated Aisha:
The Prophet engaged me when I was a girl of six (years). We went to Medina and stayed at the home of Bani-al-Harith bin Khazraj. Then I got ill and my hair fell down. Later on my hair grew (again) and my mother, Um Ruman, came to me while I was playing in a swing with some of my girl friends. She called me, and I went to her, not knowing what she wanted to do to me. She caught me by the hand and made me stand at the door of the house. I was breathless then, and when my breathing became Allright, she took some water and rubbed my face and head with it. Then she took me into the house. There in the house I saw some Ansari women who said, "Best wishes and Allah's Blessing and a good luck." Then she entrusted me to them and they prepared me (for the marriage). Unexpectedly Allah's Apostle came to me in the forenoon and my mother handed me over to him, and at that time I was a girl of nine years of age.
Volume 5, Book 58, Number 235:
Narrated 'Aisha:
That the Prophet said to her, "You have been shown to me twice in my dream. I saw you pictured on a piece of silk and some-one said (to me). 'This is your wife.' When I uncovered the picture, I saw that it was yours. I said, 'If this is from Allah, it will be done."
Volume 5, Book 58, Number 236:
Narrated Hisham's father:
Khadija died three years before the Prophet departed to Medina. He stayed there for two years or so and then he married 'Aisha when she was a girl of six years of age, and he consumed that marriage when she was nine years old.
Assalaam walaikum,
Why is this such an obstacle in faith. Does it really matter. The facts are the Prophet accepted her as his wife. He loved her. She was one of the greatest scholars of Islam.
The question that should be asked is why am I so concerned about the age of one of the Mothers of the Believers.
Trust me...I think we have deeper issues to discuss regarding striving for heaven.
:salam2:
Yes, I was sure she was 9 as well - why would a 19 year old girl play with dolls? I'd always read that by the time RasulAllah (SAW) died, she was 18 years old.
Hi this is one thing which i find hard to understand about Aisha
And does it really matter? The non-Muslims at the time of the Prophet pbuh had no problem with it. It's only the non-Muslims these days that make a big deal about it to make people have bad impressions of the Prophet sal Allaahu 'alayhi wa sallaam, claiming astaghfirullaah that he was a 'child molester'.
Lina Medina (born September 27, 1933, in Ticrapo, Huancavelica Region, Peru) is the youngest confirmed mother in medical history, giving birth at the age of five years, seven months and 21 days. She now lives in Lima, Peru. still alive.
Medina's son weighed 2.7 kg (6.0 lb; 0.43 st) at birth and was named Gerardo after her doctor. Gerardo was raised believing that Medina was his sister, but found out at the age of 10 that she was his mother. He grew up healthy but died in 1979 at the age of 40 of a bone marrow disease.
I assure you sis no one in this thread wasn't aware of what exactly the accusations of the non-muslims are against Rasulullaah salAllaahu alayhi wasallam. There was no need to post it and state the obvious.
When something is so vulgar and untrue, never dignify it with making mention of it. Example of this can be found in the Sunnah during the slander of 'Aishah radiAllaahu anha. Rasulullaah salAllaahu alayhi wa sallam never uttered exactly what the accusations against her were with his own tongue, he just waited patiently for the truth to become clear. When he eventually addressed the people about it he simply stated he was aware of that which they had been speaking. Thats powerful.
I think thats an absolutely beautiful Sunnah.
Wa-salaam
