:salam2: i am seeking for knowledge and also to put behind some blurry things. If you ask any christian man about the birth of Jesus as will say: Jesus was born in a stable and laid to sleep in a manger. The shepherds came to see firsthand the things the angel had told them.
Some time later, wise men, or magi, from eastern countries saw a star in the sky that signaled the birth of a new king. They came to Judea, the region around Jerusalem and Bethlehem, to worship Jesus, the new king. Matthew 1-2, Luke 1-2

We know from Quran what we know, hamdullilah and such things like the above i never read in Quran, why all this story with shepards and mags ? Throw some light please, what scholars say about it ? Here the birth of Jesus, the called Christmas is a comercial hollyday and everyone takes for granted everything, just because mom knows from her mom that knows from her mom and so on.

Jesus was born in Roman-occupied Palestine. That alone is significant because the Romans were major idolators, so Jesus certainly had his job cut out for him!

As to whether it was in a manger or stable, it really doesn't matter, does it? Really, you shouldn't preoccupy yourself with facts that, at the end of the day, have little significance.

Assalaam walaikum,

Excellent response sister...we need to concentrate on our behavior. We need to discover how we Love and Respect the sweet earth Allah has given us for this trial...and manger and stable are really synonyms..we do not use the word manger as it is in a stable...
( sorry...it's just another sunshine, lollipops and rainbows kinda day )

As salamo alaikome

You know I have noticed that here at TTI whenever someone brings up a conversation or asks a question that is in a gray area where there is maybe no clear cut answer some members love to come on the thread and say stuff like "why are you asking this question? These things dont matter." or they will say stuff like "Concentrate on your behavior".

Ok all that is fine and dandy but Islam also teaches us to ASK QUESTIONS! Sometimes we already understand there is no clear cut answer and we might just want other Muslims to give their OPINION on what they THINK. In my mind there is nothing wrong with that.

If we dont have an answer and dont want to post our opinion I think it would be more productive to just say nothing at all. Im sorry but I know that myself for one have been really offended by people treating me as if I have no right to ask something just because it has no clear answer. I dont think thats what Allah wants us to feel otherwise he wouldnt have given us brains to reason and think with.

May Allah forgive me if I have said something wrong. Also I am sorry if I am offending anyone because I am not aiming my rant at anyone in particular I just used these words as a generalization so please dont take what I said personally.

Assalaam walaikum,

As Precious Star indicated the question regarding the birth place has been described in the Quran..the rest is speculation...There is recorded in Christian history the visit of the Magi.

However, that is Christian history and we need to concentrate on Islam. The Quran corrected mankind's history.

Yes, ask questions..but we are also reminded to ask pertinent questions. And I often ask the questioner to rephrase the question for better understanding.

Often, I, will spend time to research the question before I pose any response. And I know many many brothers and sister do to.

Islam is vast. We need to seek Knowledge...we are going to take that with us..but we have to ask ourselves what is the knowledge we need to drink and inhale.

Dear sister,

what is written in the bible is half truths and half lies written by man. That is why we cannot trust the contents of the book. There is no reference given in Islam to any stable or shepherds or maggis, these are all tall tales of men. They may have been written to make it all more vivid and glamours or written thinking the readers need more description, more details. As for Christmas, that too isn't even Jesus a.s. birthday, it was the birthday of pagan's sun god. Paul switched it over like many other pagan rituals to win converts.

As for as Jesus a.s.'s birth, all we know is what is stated in the Quran and the Sunnah. Anything more is lies and speculations.

"Relate in the Book the story of Mary, when she withdrew from her family, to a place in the East. She screened herself from them; then We sent to her Our spirit (angel Gabriel) and he appeared before her as a man in all respects. She said: I seek refuge from you in God Most Gracious (come not near) if you do fear God. He said: Nay, I am only a Messenger from your Lord, to announce to you the gift of a pure son. She said: How shall I have a son, when no man has ever touched me, and I am not unchaste? He said: So it will be, your Lord says: ‘That is easy for Me; and We wish to appoint him as a sign unto men and a Mercy from Us': It was a matter so decreed" (Quran 19:16-21).

"She (Mary) said: ‘O my Lord! How shall I have a son when no man has touched me.' He (God) said: ‘So (it will be) for God creates what He wills. When He has decreed something, He says to it only: ‘Be!'- and it is"
(3:47).

Mary conceived the child miraculously and retired to a distant place where she awaited her delivery. The Qur'an in a chapter entitled 'Mary’ tells us how Mary felt and what the Jews told her when she brought the child home:

She conceived him and withdrew with him to a distant place. And the birth pangs surprised her by the trunk of the palm-tree. She said, 'would I had died before this. and become a thing forgotten.' The one from below her called to her, 'Do not grieve; see, your Lord has set below you a rivulet. Shake also toward you the palm trunk. and there shall come tumbling upon you dates fresh and ripe. Eat therefore, and drink, and be comforted; and if you should see any mortal, say. "I have vowed to the All-Merciful a fast, and today I will not speak to any man." Then she brought the child to her folk carrying him; and they said, ‘Mary, you have surely committed a monstrous thing. Sister of Aaron, your father was not a wicked man, nor was your mother a woman unchaste.' Mary pointed to the child. but they said, 'How shall we speak to one who is still in the cradle, a little child?' He said, 'Lo, I am God's servant; God has given me the Book and made me a Prophet. Blessed he has made me, wherever I may be; and he has enjoined me to pray. and to give the alms, so long as I live, and likewise to cherish my mother; he has not made me arrogant or wicked. Peace be upon me, the day I was born, and the day I die, and the day I am raised up alive.' (19:22-23)

As you can see from above, there was no stable. It was outside, far from others, near a palm tree all by herself, and then she carried him back to her people.

"Then she (Mary) pointed to him. They said: ‘How can we talk to one who is a child in the cradle?' He (Jesus) said: ‘Verily! I am a slave of God, He has given me the Scripture and made me a Prophet; "
(19:29-30).

all i can say is that, many biblical scholars are quite unsure about either where jesus was born or the whole manger story. it's a mystery it seems.

The whole manger/surrounded by animals/star in the east predates Christianity and was "borrowed" just like the rest of the Christmas myth. Once I find my sources I can post them, but I know that there was a pagan "god" that was born in this same fashion.

:salam2:yes, thank you for your reply. To be honest i try educate my self always and i try take the best from this life and from experience i know that sometimes we cant see the forest because of the trees, no matter how simple it is. Even some things may not have much significance at the end of your day, maybe at the end of my day they do. All the best :salam2:
