Greetings, I am a Christian, looking to have a discussion about Islam.

What would be the main reason to become a muslim?

Peace

Welcome to our diverse family. Inshallah (God willing) you will find TTI beneficial and resourceful. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions.

Islam is for all people, no matter what race, color, country, tribe, nation, background you are from. Islam is the religion of logic. The beauty of Islam is the Oness of God; it is monotheism in the purest form. There is no one to be worshipped except God. Allah (Arabic word for God) sent thousands of messengers to each nation during different time periods. All the messengers, including Moses, Jesus, Isaac, Job, Mohammad, etc peace be upon them all, only had one message and that is to worship God alone. Islam is peace. Islam is about brotherhood and sisterhood, no matter what race or country you are from. Islam abolishes racism. Islam teaches us to give to the poor, respect our parents, neighbors, friends, etc. Islam tells us to worship and pray to God 5 times a day. Praying througout each day helps bring peace and light to your soul.

Please watch some of the videos. May God help you find the truth to your life. So to answer you question, it all depends on you. You have the choice to learn about Islam or not. Inshallah, I hope to see you around :)

Peace

salam

I used to be a devout christian and I was happy with it, but I realised I was not "complete" with it just after understanding what Islam is all about.

According to my own experience, if I had to choose just one reason to give on why should anyone become a muslim, I would say : to find COMPLETE peace when submitting to the will of Allah, which is actually the literal meaning of the word "Islam".
This word 'peace' is actually very profound that affects every second of your existence. To traslate that to something some specific, I can say as a woman, that Islam has blessed me with the high status women have in it. I found respect and protection, not just spiritual or emotional, but physical.

If you want another reason, that is called FREEDOM.
I could go on and on and on, so I have to stop myself now

Anyway , I hope you find this discussion and this nice forum helpful in many ways. May Allah guide us all. .

Well u should become a muslim because in many ways, muslims are more christain, than christains, meaning we follow/practise the teachings of christ jesus much more closely eg from fasting to prayer and abandoning worship of idols and material way of life. Since muslims believe in jesus and the other previous prophets mentioned in the bible u wont be abandoning these beliefs. So i encourage you to further study islam, read the quran, and upgrade yourself to this religion. Peace be with you.

Salam! I converted 2 months ago. I was in Catholic church. Today I'm going to chech Islamic centre here in the city where I live....My point is that when you are aware Muslim, who wants to be as good as it is possible, you can't get enough of this. You can say "You are new Muslim, so you still don't know a lot.", I'll reply Yes, but I know some Muslims virtually and personally, and they are looking every day, searcging for new information, developing their faith, reading The Holy Quran, conteplaiting It. So this CONTEMPLATION, DESIRE TO KNOW MORE + SATISFACTION and this what previous Sister mentioned COMPLETENESS! I can't perefctly describe it, but this Islamic happines is sparkilng from you and everyone who knows you good can see it. That what I would like to say about feelings....And that's true that it's the most pure religion, when you worship Allah (swt) alone, when you trully appreciate other Prophets (PBUT) and theit lifes, when it's ALLH and YOU, and your confession, your mind, your decision. I think that we can talk, and talk about it ssooooo muuuucccchhhh, so I'll leave You with this new knowledge:) Feel free to ask and participate in any discussion:) May Allah guide You to right path!

Turn To Islam
Greetings, I am a Christian, looking to have a discussion about Islam.

What would be the main reason to become a muslim?

Hopefully this will shed some light on your question.

This article is designed for those who wish to become Muslim; as to what would be their benefits after accepting Islam. It should be stated here that we are not trying to entice people to become Muslim, nor are we trying to convert them into the fold of Islam. Any person who wishes to become a Muslim should recognize that he or she will get all these benefits and much more. However, he or she should realize that they have to earn them by practicing the teachings of Islam. Implementing the practice of Islamic teachings is as important as believing.

Benefits

The following items are some of the benefits to be earned and enjoyed by those who wish to become Muslim:

1. As far as the Creator (whose proper name is Allah) is concerned, you will be able to identify Him and get to know Him, His role and your relationship to His names, you will be able to communicate with Him any time, 24 hours a day, throughout the whole year. As a result of this category, you will be able to know your origin, your roots and the wisdom as to why you are on this planet. You will be able to have good answers to the questions why, how, when, where, what and other philisophical questions.

2. As a result of the first benefit, your loyalty, allegiance, and obedience will be to the Creator himself. You will transcend yourself from all types of allegiance for this world. This means that if there is a conflict of interest between your boss, your job, your government, your system or any worldly relationship with the Creator, you will undoubtedly put your trust in Allah, the Creator of the universe. You will follow Him before you follow anyone else.

3. As a result of the second benefit, you will be able to acquire peace, harmony, tranquillity and happiness within yourself, with your family, with people of the world, with the environment and with the universe. One has to remember that the source of peace is Allah, and one of his beautiful names is that He is The Peace.

4. As an endorsement to the third benefit, you will get rid of the extra electrostatic charges from your brain and the central nervous system by performing the daily Salah. Through Salah, you are to prostrate by putting your forehead to the floor; and as such are grounding yourself, and you are discharging these extra charges into the ground. As a result of this act, you will get rid of many of the neurological diseases from your body.

5. As a result of the fourth benefit, you will acquire a pleasant personality. You will be friendly and amicable. You would not need to drink alcohol, to use drugs or to get involved in vulgarity or immorality.

6. Through the experience of fasting in Islam, you will be able to have self-control, self-restraint, self-discipline, self-education, self-evaluation, and self-obedience to Allah the Creator. You undoubtedly will be able to improve health, personality, character, and behavior.

7. As a result of the sixth benefit, you will be able to control your lusts, selfishness, desires, greed, ego, and conceitedness.

8. Another side reaction of the sixth and seventh benefits is that you will be generous and hospitable; you will try to purify yourself and your mistakes by sharing your happiness and your wealth with those who are less fortunate than you. Your rewards will manifold, compounded daily until the Day of Judgement.

9. By performing pilgrimage to Makkah, you will transcend yourself from being nationalistic, sectarian, or denominational into being universal. You will be part and an essential constituent of the rainbow of Islam. You will be also part of the brotherhood of Islam with those who already submitted themselves to the Creator. At the same time, you will get rid of any inferiority or superiority complexes. You will also find yourself in synchrony and harmony with all the prophets and messengers of Allah since the creation of Adam and Eve until the last final messenger to mankind, prophet Muhammad (pbuh). While in makkah, you will be able to visit the places of revelation of the Qu`ran as well as the places visited by prophet Abraham and members of his family such as Hagar and Ishmael. You will visit the place where the first astronauts, Adam and Eve landed on earth.

10. In becoming a Muslim, you will do your best to stop all types of exploitations in all their forms: economic, biological, mental, spiritual, psychological, political, etc.. You will also work to liberate people and give them freedom of worship, freedom of speech, and freedom of expresssion. You will be a leader and help lead people to peace, tranquillity and happiness.

11. In accepting Islam, you will help to reduce all types of social ills in the society: juvenile delinquency, child abuse, domestic abuse, incest, homosexuality, sexual promiscuity, premarital relationships, extramarital relationships, and other vices.

12. As a result of the eleventh benefit, you will reduce and eliminate venereal diseases, AIDS, and other diseases of similar nature in the society.

13. Finally, when you die, you will die at peace. You will have a happy life in the grave and later, eternal happiness. Angels at the time of death will comfort you. They will also show you your place in paradise. On the Day of Judgment, you will be able to see and meet all the prophets and messengers of God to mankind including Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad. You will be able to see and meet any and all of your friends and relatives. You will live an eternal life of bliss in paradise.

Reflections:

The benefits mentioned above and many more cannot be purchased with money anywhere in the world. No one is to sell them to you or to advertise them on TV. You have to take the initiative yourself and try to acquire them by accepting Islam first and then by practicing its teachings. You should be honest with yourself, sincere, and truthful to the Creator. You should try wholeheartedly to practice what you believe, regardless of whether someone else is good or not While seeking happiness is a must, it should not be measured with other people's standards or with material gains. Happiness is from its potential to its kinetic forms. People around you should feel your happiness as well as benefit from you.

Are you ready to accept this challenge today? Remember, tomorrow may not come, and it will be too late.

Thank you all for your responses

Thank you for the thoughtful responses. I want to be honest with all and state that I am a commited Christian, seeking to discuss the topic of islam.

As I read the responses, it seems that converting to islam is primarily for my happiness/peace. If a person already is happy/in peace, why would one want to convert?

Also, some mention of "judgement" was made. Please tell me about that.

Thank you

I think what is meant is that it is a complete "How to Live" guide that is in accordance with God's will and commandments. And through this you find complete peace as there is no doubt of what your duties are in that aspect. There is no conflict in the Qu'ran, no where does it contradict itself. There are many contradictions in the Bible. The Qu'ran is now as it was, never altered. How many times has the Bible been ammended and translated, books removed? Why? Because man wanted to curtail the Gospels to suit themselves. Islam and Christianity are the same religion, I believe. And I am a recent convert to Islam and I am American. So, with all that propoganda that is out there to show the world how awful muslims are, don't think it is a matter of "divine intervention" that Americans are turning to Islam every day?

You should look up Yusuf Estes and Gary Miller on YouTube.....both theologians and now both Muslim. They are funny and enlightening and void of any cultural influence, so you feel like you are getting an HONEST view of Islam.

People revert for many reason:

1) God is much meaningful and superior than worshiping a human being.
2) Truth
3) Peace - inner and outer
4) Devoting 5 daily prayers to God, as part of a continuous form of worship
5) Finding the purpose of life
6) The level of detail in the Holy Quran
7) How to live a moral & righteous life, such as following the conducts & behaviors of the last Prophet, Muhammad (peace be upon him)
8) The scientific answers in the Holy Quran has made many scientists revert to Islam
9) The complete brotherhood & sisterhood
10) Islam decreases the problems in ill societies by banning alcohol, drugs, lowering abortion, prostitution, racism, divorce, etc.
11) Giving men & women complete and dignified human rights & values

This list can be endless my friend......

Just because the majority of people accept Islam that number should not be the reason used to get other people to accept Islam. But, it is undoubtedly a beautiful sign that should not be ignored.

If you don't mind me asking, what led you to TTI, how did you find it?

Why not study different religions and you decide for yourself. May God help you find the truth.

"If you don't mind me asking, what led you to TTI, how did you find it? "

I was reading a Christian article and it mentioned the "99 beautiful names for Allah" so I googled it and found TTI.

The bible teaches that we all have sinned against God, who is holy and righteous. When we die, we will be judged for every word and deed. God's justice demands payment/punishment for our sins. The Christian faith is unique in that God provided a way out of His punishment. He provided His Son, Jesus, as a payment for our sin. Jesus died in our place. If we will repent and put our trust in Jesus, we will be saved from God's wrath.

Is it true to say that the god of islam will just overlook sin in a muslims life. He does not require justice, he shows mercy?

Dear friend,

You see in Islam Jesus (or Isa, in Arabic) (peace be upon him) is a respected messenger of God. We Muslims are each individually held accountable for our own actions. Our destination (paradise or hell) is determined by the actions (good or bad) of this world. We Muslims live in between hope and fear. We hope to that our good deeds are enough and we fear that those good deeds are not enough. How can I be responsible for the sins of someone in China when I don't even know him?

Every human being has free will. We have the choice to do good. We have the choice to do bad. We have the choice to wake up every morning or rest asleep for our entire life. You have the choice to study Islam or not. Free will is the greatest manifestation of God's creativity in my humble opinion!

If you claim that Jesus (pbuh) died for your sins....then tell me what is the purpose of your life? How can you be saved from God's wrath if you believe that Jesus died for yours sin? You believe that no matter what or how much sin you commit you'll go to heaven. Does that truly serve a purpose for this life?

I put my trust in all the messengers of God, may the peace and blessings of Allah swt be upon them all!

NO....on the contrary......we have no scapegoat. We are responsible for ourselves for every thought, every look, every deed.....so we have to work super hard to offset our errs and sins. We have to pray regularly....this is to remind us through out the day that we will return to God. God and Allah are the same God. Islam is an Abrahamic religion! For example, in French a car is Voiture, in English it is just a car, does that mean that they are NOT the same thing? Ofcourse NOT! In The Passion of The Christ, did Jesus not call God Allahi, my God?

Hello !

Hello :)

I hope you are finding the responses benefecial, inshaAllah (God willing).
As for the reason that you gave that God gave his only son for ransom and for the expeations of the sins of all, with all due respect I ask you, do you think the most just and merciful God would let an innocent person (Jesus) be tortured and humiliated for something he didn't do ?
Many find the concept of an eye for an eye quite harsh but don't you think its even harsher on God's part to punish a person for someone else's deeds ?
We muslims do not believe in the concept of Original Sin and neither we muslims believe that God gave anyone away in the expiation of the sins of others.

Even Jesus (Peace be upon him) himself said that,
21"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'
Matthew Ch. 7 [NIV]
So if Jesus (Peace be upon him) himself was saying that way to salvation is only through following the will of God then there is no reason to go against it, what do you say ?

He (Peace be upon him) also said,
16Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?" 17"Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments."

As I mentioned before I was happy being a christian until I understood what really Islam is al about.
-Now I don't need any intermediary between me and God

-My life changed dramatically for the better in every aspect

-As a christian even if devout, I was still "slave" of the world in many ways:body image, make up, hair dying, in order to "attract" people attention.

-As muslim I am counted for what I am, not for how I look

-Now my Book is one without contadictions, additions, revisions, versions.

- my doctrine is 'logical', which means I truely and fully understand it and I'm peacefull with it, before I never really understood things like the trinity, neither anyone was capable of giving me a clear explanation of it.

-Now I am more christian than before, since my life is closer and more in accordance to what Jesus(peace be upon him) preached and how he lived

-I have specific guidance for every aspect of my life

- I have to watch every thing I do, because I want to please God and I don't want to be punished. That's has taken me to be closer to Allah than ever.

-Allah is The One and Only and has no divisions or associates and doesn't have any pagan greek touches of half-man half-god deities.

- I love Jesus more than ever, but I don't have to worship him.(He never claimed to be God anyway).

It seems DadmanG that you believe Allah is a different kind of god. He's not. Allah is the God of Abraham, Moses, and all the prophets. He is the Most merciful and the Most Kind. If you take a Bible in Arabic you will read Allah instead of God.
You said that you were reading about the 99 names of Allah : dit they sound to you as if Allah is not merciful? or Just?
It is very appreciatable that you are taking the time to ask questions. I wish all christians were like you. It doesn't hurt just to know more about Islam, for the sake of knowledge and understanding, does it?
It's also important that you know that if you are here doing so, we are not expecting or pushing you to convert, we just want you to get informed and hopefully more understanding of what Islam is really about, and not just judge a whole religion for what the media o the bad examples say.

Hello again, we welcome your thoughts and yours questions.
In islam we believe that amongst the infinite qualities and attributes of God almighty, one of them is that he is the most/often forgiving and merciful and that his judgement is perfect, total justice. So when it comes to sins, everyone will have to give explanation for their own deeds, what they did and on judgement day the deeds will be put in front of each person so they will witness the truth, something which they wont be able to deny. So putting these 2 points togather, we believe everyone is accountable and responsible for their own sins not jesus christ or any other person. And to be saved' or forgiven for our sins, we simply turn and make repentance, thus exerts his quality of being the most/often forgiving. Some may argue saying, you cant ask god directly because were too sinful. Well we dont believe this, quite the opposite, god almighty says even if your sins were to reach the sky/heaven or to fill the entire earth, i return it will equal forgiveness, god almighty loves that his servents turn to him and remember him, but the condition is that we seek forgiveness only from him and no other associates/partners. So in summary, god is the most just and will never punish someone else for sins they never commited, as the saying goes.. if u done the crime, u gotta do the time.

Is it true to say that the god of islam will just overlook sin in a muslims life. He does not require justice, he shows mercy?

The justice of god almighty extends not just to muslims, but to entire mankind, the justice of god almighty is so vast that on judgement day, he will also exert justice even over the animals of our world. So if his justice covers whole of animal kingdom, then imagine how justice will be done on Mankind. Muslims will also be judged accordingly on that day based on our deeds just like the non-muslims, god's justice is universal. This is why the last and final prophet warned us soo much about the day of judgement, and also the quran does aswell, a day where the people will be in regret, saddness, terrified, because each human will have to face up to what they did. Even the prophets will be judged, we know in reality they will go to paradise, but the fact that they will be judged.. god is showing ALL people, muslims, jews, christains, athesits, on that day total justice will be done.

On a more cheerful note to save ourselves from regret on that day, god has given us 2 sources, the quran which is the final testiment and prophet muhammad, the final prophet. From the islamic perspective we don’t believe Jesus came with Christianity or Moses came with Judaism, or Muhammad came with Mohammedism, we believe they all came with the same religion, yes their laws differed but their message was the same. So i encourage you to read the quran and see its message, and see how its fairs with the bible, for us they are both originally books of God, however the quran is the final testiment, the true successor to the bible, hence its good to read it and upgrade to the last message of god.

Salam and best wishes to you, I appreciate your questions regarding Islam. I think that many Christians who are really trying to practice their religion by following the example of Jesus end up falling in love with the religion of Islam when they learn about it (the Quran states this fact as well). The message is one and the same. Muhammad's life is a wonderful example of how a person would live out the commands of Jesus to love the Lord with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself. He also taught that the most important things for a person to do in their life is to believe in God and act aright. Also that it is not by our actions that we enter paradise, but due to the grace and mercy of God alone. Everything Muhammad taught is consistant with what Jesus taught.

I myself had been a practicing Christian for about 5 years, but eventually came to my own conclusion that although I believed Jesus was a prophet and excellent example for people to follow, I did not believe that he was God or Son of God. I actually thought I was the only person who formed this conclusion - I had no idea at the time that this is what Muslims believe as well! I spent another 10 years or so believing in God, but not having any religion that I called my own. At that time I was not sure what I thought about the afterlife, I figured all I could work with was what was here on earth and I tried my best to do good in my life and seek truth in everything. When I finally picked up a copy of the Quran a few years ago and read a biography of Muhammad's life I had no doubt that it was the truth and revelation from the Lord of all the worlds. I am very grateful to have been guided by God in my life and be the recipient of such a beautiful and meaningful religion. In my case I feel almost like it was not I who chose Islam, but Islam that chose me.

As a Muslim I also have respect for the other "people of the book" (Jews and Christians) who understand and practice their religion correctly. I also have much respect for any other religion in the world that understands God and promotes doing good in the world - such as many of the original Native American tribes for example. The true message of all of the monotheistic religions is all the same. With Islam I feel there is an advantage of believing in ALL of the prophets and also the fact that there is SO MUCH specific direction regarding how to do good and how to be closer to God, much more than any other religion before it.

Thank you again for your sincere curiousity regarding Islam, I wish you the best along your path in life.

Hello. well dadmang i'd like to try and answer your question on why someone would convert if they're already happy. I'll just try to be brief. You see Islam is a complete way of life, it teaches you how you should act, walk, talk....what to do and when to do it. It teaches you not only to have a piece of mind but also to have self control, to maintain dignity and integrity, to be God fearing each and every day of your life. To use your time wisely, to believe in all the messengers of Allah and to be respecting each and everyone one of them. For example women in islam are assumed to be oppressed by the rest of the world but really they have freedom. They are not looked upon as sex objects, and they are not put in commercials with little bikinis revealing their body parts in order to get people to buy things. The poor are to be treated kindly and to be fed and clothed. Islam makes everyone equal. No one is superior than the other, all are equal except in piety. a little on judgement day: We believe in a day where all will be resurrected and judged according to what they used to do in the world. Whoever was killed out of injustice will gain their justice that day. everyone who committed an act of injustice will be rewarded with a punishment. those who go to paradise will never feel sadness or sorrow, nor will they have to worry or be stressed and they can do as they please, those who enter hell fire will be in hell as long as Allah wishes and they will ask for water and they will be given hot fluid from their own flesh. We are not suppose to set up partners with Allah, he must be worshipped alone without partners for he is the one who created and shaped every being on this earth. There is a creator behind everything, cars don't just exist, someone built it with their hands and so on. so the world is created by Allah....and he deserves to be thanked and praised, not insulted and disobeyed. I hope that helps. and sorry if i was offensive in anyway, didn't mean to. peace.

Hello DadManG,

Welcome to this forum.

You asked, "What would be the main reason to become a muslim?"

And the answer is that Islam in the only religion that is truly and fully monotheistic. We worship God Almighty alone and worship no one else. And we believe He is absolutely One and not a trinity.

We also do not ascribe negative attributes to God Almighty, unlike some passages in the Bible. For example:

When the LORD saw how great was man's wickedness on earth, and how no desire that his heart conceived was ever anything but evil, he regretted that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was grieved. So the LORD said: "I will wipe out from the earth the men whom I have created, and not only the men, but also the beasts and the creeping things and the birds of the air, for I am sorry that I made them."

Genesis 6:5-7 [New American Bible]

The best book in this field [in the English language] was written by Dr. Bilal Philips. It's titled "Fundamentals of Tawheed [Islamic Monotheism]".

Again, thank you all for your comments. It is a little overwhelming to try to respond to everyone. But I would like to try to continue the dialogue.

So far, I hear many say that God is merciful. My question is, Is it reasonable that God would punish those who have broken His laws?

The bible teaches that God will punish lawbreakers, not only murders but liars, also. We tend to think that if we have not murdered anyone then we are not bad. But, Jesus helped us to see that God is so Holy. He considers hate as murder, and looking with lust as adultery. Since God is Holy and Just, how can He just simply say, Oh, it's OK, you can come in to paradise. Justice demands payment for breaking the law. The bible says that payment is death. We are in a lot of trouble if we have to make that payment.

With the help of God's Law, I have discovered that I have sinned against God, I was His enemy, But I also discovered that He sent Jesus, His own Son, to pay my penalty (death). I am so grateful to God for this, I will do anything for Him. (Repentance).

It seems that a muslim is taught that he can just try to live a "good" life and maybe he will go to paradise. But, Jesus tells us that it's not about being good enough, it's about being PERFECT. And since we CANNOT be perfect on our own, we need the Life and death of Jesus (who is perfect) as a substitution of ours.

I hope this makes sense,
Thank You
