Istikhara - misreading the answer?

Asalaamu alaikum brothers and sisters in Islam -

I've made a few posts describing my life changes that I've taken all for Allah s.w.t. this summer. I didn't post all of them, because I didn't want to feel like I was guilty of riyah (see my previous post) or that I was bragging. But to wrap up in a nutshell:

I took June off from my job for medical reasons. As some of you may remember, I worked 90 miles (roughly 145 km) from my house, a drive that often took over 2 hours. This raised my stress, my diabetes, my blood pressure etc.

In June I prayed Istikhara and asked ALLAH azawajal for guidance. I came to a plan to resign my position, cash in my 401K, live off that & find work here closer to home OR in Kuwait which is my biggest dream. When I prayed Istikhara, that was what I prayed on: should I do this?

I told my mother about my plan, and she said "I cannot in good conscience talk you out of it...it sounds like a better way of life for you". Whenever I thought about it, I felt peace...when I thought about returning to work, I felt stress, frustration etc..I felt that was my reply, so on July 7th I resigned my job of 12 years.

In August I gave my car back to the bank, in the name of Allah...I didn't want to be paying that riba during Ramadan. I am still paying my mortgage, but I can't do much on that yet - until ALLAH opens the doors to get out of it. I used some money from my 401 to buy myself a beater car to just to get around town...I bought it from a brother at my masjid, keeping it in the community (this brother also takes non-interest payments, may Allah reward him).

After Ramadan I used some of that 401 money to make one dream come true - I flew to Dubai and then to Kuwait. As I mentioned in another post, it was an amazing trip. On the Monday after I returned to the US I re-submitted an application for a job there. I was told last night my application is "under review". Meanwhile, a job I applied for a year ago here in my town just sent me an invitation to take the test - its a 911 Dispatch position, the same job I applied for in Kuwait.

Now here is where I start to get nervous.

My 401K money is down to the last 50 bucks. I am still jobless. When I traveled, I begged ALLAH - making traveler dua - to please get me an income that is halaal and is best for me. I would like that to be Kuwait, but if its here then alhamdulillah. I begged that whichever is HIS WILL, that its easy for me.

I applied for unemployment, but was declined initially because I had quit voluntarily. This past Thursday, the 7th, I met with a judge for the appeal. I've yet to hear a reply.

So. Here I am with money draining away...I'm not starving yet, inshallah! But I'm wondering - is it possible I misunderstood when I did my Istikhara? Or is it possible I am just being impatient (know that sabr isn't easy for me)? My faith in ALLAH subhanahu wa ta'ala is such that I know HE will not let me down, because HE never has. But I am standing at a cross roads...

As it says in the Qur'an, "And consult them in the affair. When you have taken a decision, put your trust in ALLAH" (Al-Imran 3:159)

So I have now consulted...and with my decision I've put my trust in ALLAH.

Am I just being impatient?

Thank you for your replies.

JazakAllah khairyn!

D.

Salaamalaykum waa rahmatullahi,

Since you prayed Istikhara and then took the option that became easier on you (or the path eased on that way/there were no obstructions on it), InshaAllah you followed the guidance from Allah Almighty.

As for your intentions to migrate to a muslim country, I have no doubt that Allah Almighty will assist you in realizing that dream/interest if it is in your best interest. This has to be remembered again and again, that Allah Almighty knows what we don't. Therefore, we should always be pleased with what Allah has in store for us, even if it means that our dreams are not realised. InshaAllah there is khayr in it and a protection from something that we don't know.

As for your financial condition, I ask Allah Almighty to assist you and easen your financial burden. I would encourage you to increase you repentance to Allah azz zawajal, make Istighfaar as much as you can from the bottom of your heart and you will find things changing quickly in your favor InshaAllah.

You would benefit by reading these below threads InshaAllah :

Keep your trust in Allah azz zawajal. The harder the test from Allah Almighty, the higher you will gain in ranks in Al Jannah from the mercy of Allah. I ask Allah subhaanaho waa taala to help you pass this test with sabr and tawakkul in Him.

If we can help in any way, please do let us know.

Wasalaamalaykum waa rahmatullahi

That reminds me that I came across an American revert brother who resides in Kuwait and has a youtube page. Link

He has his contact details (See About Me section on youtube) on that page and is ready to provide assistance to anyone seeking Hijrah in Kuwait. He has some nice videos about life in Kuwait as well.

Brother Danyal, InshaAllah you can contact the brother with regards to job opportunities in Kuwait.

Asalaamu alaikum akhi, and jazakAllah khairyn. I sent the bro an email, lets see what happens inshallah.

I've often thought about applying for an English position - if they don't care that I don't have a degree in teaching, I wouldn't mind working for them, inshallah!

:wasalam: Akhi Daniyal,

It seems we are undergoing similar circumstances. Its my dream to migrate to a Muslim Country.

I have been very actively trying for it for past 6 months.

Initially everything goes fine, and as we prepare to move, one thing leads to another and it never happens :(

May be Allah is testing our Patience. Or may be he intends something more better for us.

"Surely after hardship there is ease. After hardship indeed there is ease."

According to Quran, we need to do the following hasten exit from the difficulty:

1. Increase istighfaar (Seeking forgiveness).

2. Increase Taqwa of Allah.

3. Make dua that Yunus made when he in the belly of a Fish.

"Laa ilaha Illa Anta Subhanak inni kuntu mi az zaalimeen"

I am so overwhelmed I am crying right now. This shows the blessing of ALLAH the Most High:

I just got a response from the appeals board...they ruled in MY FAVOR...

"...the combination of the claimant's medical condition and the long commute created a hazardous situation which supplied good cause for leaving employment...The claimant is found to have had a real, substantial, and compelling reason of such nature...(that) the claimant voluntarily quit his most recent work with good cause."

If I ever doubted HIM may HE forgive me.

Alhamdulilah...I'm so happy for you! I know the feeling of seeing your last two pennies walk out the door and then suddenly, Creator steps in because you reached out to him.

Congratulations!

Assalaam walaikum,

Brother,

I made Istikhara. I gave up everything. I opened the doors and whoever wanted anything, I gave it away. I drove with my teenage sons 2400 miles to here. I had a panic attack halfway through and my 15 year old drove the hardest parts.

I am looking for a job. Insha'Allah it will happen. Think of how much wisdom you are gaining. Think of wonders of Creation that Allah has exposed you to. There is much to be gained..it is in giving that we receive.

Hang in there. He is our Provider. He is our Protector. He leads us to Him.
Just count the blessings at this time.

Dear Aapa, are you from pakistan. I am also called by this beautiful greeting by my younger brothers and cousins. So much so that most people in my father's family ( including my uncles and aunts) call me aapa.

Brother one thing for sure. ISTIKHARE never fails. Dont even think that you misread it, for even the thought ( both for and against) are directed by Allah. Secondly, it is not always a dream or a thought deep seated in the heart of the one doing istikhara, most of the times it is just the circumstances that pave your way to the ordained direction.
Either case it is just Subhanallah, look at his mercy and love for us that you ask him once and is ready to give.

Assalaamu alaykum,

As however may be said on the thread, one of the etiquette of Istikhara is that the person do not question the outcome and keeps trust in it. Further not making prior convictions for any results or analyse it later. This however means keeping trust in Allaah.

May Allaah make things easy for you and us all.
