okay my first word:Tadlees

Wa `alaykkum salaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh

Tadlees in shari`ah terms is mostly used in Usool al Hadeeth. It is one of the terms that people who do not know arabic kind of struggle with, since many brothers in my class struggled with this terminology. But explaining it with an example might make more sense. An example of a hadeeth in which tadlees has taken place: Two narrators A and B narrate from their Shaykh (Note: both narrators have the same teacher). It maybe that narrator B narrates the words of their shaykh to narrator A. So narrator A quotes the shaykh (in the apparent it seems as though the narrator A heard from the teacher directly, rather he only heard the words of the teacher through another medium, i.e narrator B). This is an example of Tadlees. NOTE:If Narrator A has NOT met the Shaykh, and hears the words of the shaykh from Narrator B and narrates it, then this is also a form of tadlees and is called Mursal khafiy.

On a side note: Mostly the narrators who do tadlees are weakened by the scholars of hadeeth.

2) Halaal= Lawful

Yes i found it hard to understand, even thought the book provides a definition in the glossary.which i read now after the replies again and somehow it made more sense.Jazakallah khair for the example it helped.

you mean A wasn't there when the narration was narrated, right??not like narrator A has never met the sheik.or would it be the same in each case??sorry got confused there.
Tadlees means imposition, or giving a false impression. It can be deliberate but it may also be unintended. As brother Thariq said, it is most often used in Hadeeth authentication. Some examples of Tadlees have been called other names in order to distinguish them specifically. For instance, interjection of one's own words in the body of a narration is Tadlees, but scholars have called it Idraaj (interjection) instead, in order not to confuse Tadlees within content with Tadlees within the attribution chain.

Other examples of Tadlees in Hadeeth attribution is when a narrator is referred to by an ambiguous nickname, such as Abu-Abdillah or only his first name, such as Sa`eed. That could be out of brevity, relying on the fact that all who hear the narrator know exactly whom he means, but it can also be out of deception because one Abu-Abdillah may have heard from the narrator before him in the chain while another Abu-Abdillah did not.

Scholars opinion on Tadlees vary a lot. Some have called it "the brother of lying", others have tolerated it. Scrutineers of Hadeeth have usually been able to tell whether any given Tadlees is deceptive.

Is it my turn? How about Talbiya?

Jazakallah khair for futhur explaination.also including it's types is makes it easy to understand what the stuff in the book was all about. It had something to do with the fake naming thing.

so idraaj=tadlees within content

??=Tadlees within the attribution chain (or is it simply called tadlees)

:wasalam:

Wa `alaykkum salaam wa rahmatullaah, Tazkiyat un Nafs means: "Purification of the soul"

Wa `alaykkum salaam wa rahmatullaah, sorry, I didn't realize you changed the rules of the game.

Erm, what is Marfoo`, literal meaning and how is it used in shari`ah (mostly used in hadeeth terms)
rules are not changed.I'm sorry that the post confused you.this is a big problem with me.anyways it's clear now Inshaa'Allah

Actually, it's a genitive.

Tazkiyat un-Nafs (promoting oneself): It is allowed when one is applying for job, or courting a woman for marriage. Prophet Joseph, peace be upon him, promoted himself to the King of Egypt when he asked him to appoint him minister of the treasury. See verse 12:55.

But it is not recommended otherwise. In fact, Muslim etiquette is to say "Wa la uzakki nafsi" (and I do not promote myself) after saying words of self praise. This is in compliance with God's order in 53:32, "And do not promote yourselves. He knows better whom has been pious."

Example use in a sentence: La ba'sa min Tazkiyat in-Nafsi fil-Khitba (It is OK to promote oneself during courtship).

Tazkiyat-un-Nafs (purifying oneself): Can also mean purification, because Tazkiya is what the Zakah does (same root). Example sentence:

Tazkiyat un-Nafsi bit-Tawaadhu` (purification of the soul is by humility).

Since I answered the Al-`Urjoon Al-Qadeem quiz, I'll leave the answer of Marfoo` to someone else.

Jazakallah khair. It's good you provided the explaintion.coz i was totally confused.i hope sister OmAhmed understood too.

Seeking Allah's Mercy

Wa `alaykkum salaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh

Let me give you an example of Narrator A not meeting the shaykh. Say for example you are a student of Shaykh ibn Jibreen (rahimahullaah). So you hear a narration from him, and then you come back to your country and narrate it to your little brother (who has not met the shaykh). Now what your brother will do is, he will narrate the hadeeth on the authority of Ibn Jibreen and people will naturally think he heard it from the shaykh himself, while he hasn't even met him. And this is Mursal Khafiy

Mu`allaq- This is the suspended report, and this is when the Saqt (lacuna/gap) is on the narrator's side. So for example Imaam Al Bukhaari narrates a hadeeth but he does not incude his teacher in the chain. Or it could even be that he does not include his teacher's teacher, and so on. This results to weakness in the chain

Let me try a hard one... Tarjee`. What does it mean, and how is it used in terms of `Ibaadah?

Jazakallah khair for clearing that one.

okay so mu'allaq is a narrations with it's chain missing one of the narrators, correct??(sorry for repeating the words.i want to make sure i understood correctly).

i sure don't know about tarjee' right now,but can you explain marfoo' a lil.as i don't really get that one lined definition the book provides.Jazakallah khair.
