Asalaamu alaikum -

I was told not to put a lot of stock in Hamza Yusuf's lectures. And I was also told that many people won't recognize his "sheik"ness. But I can't figure out why.

Without dropping into the realm of backbiting the brother, can someone give me reasons why I should be concerned about & avoid his lectures?

JazakAllah Kaiyrn...

edited to add: I've tried the search feature to find other threads about him because I know they're out there but I pulled up every thread with "hamza" and every thread with "yusuf" - some of which were a dozen pages long - and I didn't have the patience lol

He is an Extremist Soufi that is why, His Shaykhs are Nuh Hameem Keller, and Habib Ali Jifri. He should be avoided.

I used to listen to Humza Yusuf's lectures as a teenager and I think he does/did a fantastic job. I have not heard of his lectures for a few years though- he used to come to the UK. I dont understand why people are always quick to make statements about others and roll out the bid'ah police. this is a poison within the Muslim Ummah

Hamza Yusuf is critizied because he celebrates Milaad-Nabi, which many believe is a bid'a and therefore they say he's encouraging to do bid'a by celebrating the Prophets' birthday. May Allah guide us all, Amin. Just Google his name and a lot of information will come up about him and sufisim.

He is is Sufi with deviant Aqeedah.

His Deviance is very clear to anyone who knows Tawheed, manhaj and Sufism.
I would request you to read about these topics in the Library section.

It is always the people who think the have knowledge condemn a shaykh...ask yourself what have you done for Islam?? And we want to call ourselves proud Muslims. It is because of this reason to call everything an innovation is why the Ummah will never unite. Remember the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) never driven in a car, so please use horses and camels instead. The prophet(PBUH) never used a computer and if you are on it responding to my post...that in itself is innovation!?!?!?!

You logged in here to type that all is a innovation also then......

I don't see where anyone on this thread accused him of innovation. Shirk, yes, but no bidah. I know that he advocates praying to Mohammad salallahu alayhi wa salaam and that he refuses to grow the sunnah beard, and if that's something you think is appropriate well... more power to you.

And although I am only a new-ish Muslim, even I know that bid'ah refers to the religion only. People try to say my language (English) is bid'ah too. Allahu alim.

Some people act like he is a scholar, and he isn't. Other than that, it's probably just because some people think he's some evil deviant Sufi who probably eats babies in his spare time, or something like that.

He's inspirational, and a good speaker. So as long as you don't treat his words like a fatwa, there is no realistic problem with him. Take the good and leave whatever you think is bad.

aselemu aleikum

i agree 110%, why must we always act like the islam police..this brother has teached me to fear allah, to love allah,to worship ALLAH azza wajall alone with no companions..all this trough the quraan and the sunnah of the prophet salalahu wa3alayhiw weselem

his lectures have been of green benefit to me and thousands of others..muslim and non muslim...he is american..so logically like a egyptian loves egypt..he loves america..

stop the anti america bs....its wasted energy...lets concentrate on taqwa

Your right brother. I did a lot of research on him and found his thought to be Sufi. No one knows what Aqeedah he follows...

:salam2: Brothers and Sisters,

1. It is very important to take Islam from people who have correct Beliefs of Islaam.

Alhamdulillah! we have Quran, Sunnah and understanding of the Sahabas to go go back to whenever we are in doubt.
We know very CLEARLY what are the correct beliefs.

2. Also, there is nothing wrong in warning others about People who spread deviant Beliefs and bidah with proofs.
The scholars of Islaam have this done this all along.
Volumes of book have been written just on People narrating Hadith. And if a particular person was deviant or trustworthy or Liar etc.
Imagine if everyone just kept quite.
How would we differentiate between authentic hadeeths narrated from people of correct Beliefs versus fabricated hadeeths narrated by People because of their deviant Beliefs ?

And if you have any proof that a person is being falsely accused of Deviant beliefs, then please present your PROOF.

I'm closing this thread now.

Those who are sincere in seeking authentic Islaam can read articles in the Library Section on Tawheed, manhaj and Sufism to know the Truth and reason and argue with other people in a beautiful way --> http://www.turntoislam.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=69
