But my biggest peeve is the brothers who go into rukoo or sujood and show the world their plumber's crack.

 That's sad!! It's become a trend now, to have your pants low so you could walk around like a 2 yr old in a full diaper! People need to pull up their pants!! :girl3:

A couple of my thobes were purchased online from a well known Saudi company that lists many of their garments as being made "50% silk, 50% cotton". The thobes I chose were cotton. I find it a bit ironic that a company makes garments often associated with Islam out of a material that is haraam to us.

However I do have to admit many if not most of my pants hang below my ankles. Actually if I point my foot my pants go almost to my toes. That's because most of the time companies that make trousers of my waist size think that if I'm that big around I MUST be 6'8" tall.

The good news (and yes, this is a shameless plug for myself) is that in the past year I've lost almost 40 lbs alhamdulillah soooo hopefully soon I can wear regular and not "Big and Tall" sizes inshallah!

But what gets to me is when the brothers show up in sweats (often dirty or stained) or in basketball shorts. I remember once when a handful of the boys from the school were playing soccer. They responded to the adhan and came to prayer in soccer shorts, most of them JUST to the knees. The shakyh told them to go pray at home.

But my biggest peeve is the brothers who go into rukoo or sujood and show the world their plumber's crack. Its far more prevalent than you would think. It is sunnah and therefore does not break your salaat if you lean forward and pull their shirt down over their exposure...but I usually notice it when someone is doing their sunnah prayer and when they go into sujood they crack a big smile.

Hence why I wear the baggiest clothes (when I wear 'western') that you can find (ask thariq2005, he thinks my t-shirts are his thawb size). It's really getting on my nerves how brothers 'can crack a smile' in the salaah as you like to put it. Forget cracking a smile, even lower garments that show your thighs shapes somewhat is objectionable, if not haraam (according to some)...

Assalaam walaikum,

Brother..that goes for both sexes.

I am still stuck on the skinny jeans and tight t-shirt. ( on a man!!!).

There are no smiling cracks because the skinny jeans reveal it all..

I must write I am very fortunate...at my new masjid we have an imam. Things are organized.

Brother Danyl: congrats...I'm working on my son..tall and big men's clothes cost a small fortune..and shoes...his are the easiest to find after salat. They look like boats.

There is a solution if your masjid is ready to spend a bit.. Some plain Egyptian Galabeya of different sizes (they are as low as 12-15$ each) can be put in a rack at the back of the masjid, around 12-15 should be fine. Anyone who isn't in the proper attire can grab and put one on.

I have seen this practice in some places here in TX.. Even the brothers who wear those basketball shorts all the time usually have a Galabeya somewhere in their car's backseat and put it on when they come to the masjid. I would suppose that this happens quite a lot in CA too. So perhaps you can look into it.

In any case, we should advise these people with kindness (especially the youth). Harsh ways of approaching can lead them to abandon the masjid and having them in the masjid (even if improperly dressed) is still a plus in our times. We have to be reasonable and adapt according to present conditions. Rather than appreciating advices as we should all do, they can even have a 'who is he to tell me' attitude and this might lead to sour moments. So the message has to get across in a friendlier and thoughtful manner.

InshaAllah they will realize their mistakes and rectify themselves. :)

Mashallah, that is a good idea brother and our masjid actually did try it - but unfortunately those galabeya tended to walk out the door within a matter of weeks, along with our wudu-room flipflops.

wow it is a good idea. im supporting it:hijabi:

here in malayisa, all the masjids providing 'prayers cloth' for the women

and i think it is a good idea to provide galabeya to men as well.

at least to encourage the muslims to pray eventough they are 'in the middle

of shopping or sports'.

Wait.. are you telling me that people stole flip flops and clothes that were meant for people performing salah ? La Hawla Wa Laa Quwata Illa Billah.. That's despicable..

Here, we try not to even have our cars parked in the masjid spots when it's not prayer time (some of us live close by so it can happen), so that other people coming to the mosque don't find inconvenience to find parking spots.. I can't even imagine people stealing from the Masjid, May Allah azz zawajal guide them and us. Ameen

Salams dear brother it happens, my husband and son have had their new shoes for Eid stolen a number of times when they go to pray the Eid prayer, people pass by and take their pick, astaghfirallah, thats the times we are living in,
on another note brothers should go to the masjid clean ( they are not allowed to haram other muslims , even with bad smells etc)and wear something long enought to cover their awra( between the naval and knee ). I good idea to keep a thawb in your car etc for pray and of course it would be right for the brothers to always have decent right clothing on at all times,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
And Allah ta'laa knows best

Yep. We had our wudu room totally renovated this year and at its "grand opening" we had a rack FULL of red flip flops for us to use in it. Within a month they were gone.

A few of us brothers use to have very similar flip flops.
I remember a few times when they would take one of there shoes & accidently take one of mine. So I would have one shoe that fits well & one that wasn't mine.
I just using the same shoes to the masjid, until one day I found both of my shoes together.
I never new who accidently took it in the end but I got mine back & they got there's back.
It was funny while it was happening...............lol

Salamu alaikkum sister, really this is a good thread and must be made sticky... many many many muslim men out there just neglect the whole issue about their hijab, and you see men slandering about a woman who doesn't wear a scarf, while these men don't have their beards nor wear their clothes above their ankles. Jazakallah khair for this fatwa. I was going to write up on this issue after my exams, but you just done my job for me ukthi :) Jazakallah khair and take care

Salamu alaikkum
May Allah guide them! The issue about wearing the izar above the ankles is not a big issue, I think I have made a thread about it.

Here's an interesting fatwa about Muslim men wearing islamic clothes in Dar ul-Kufr:

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

If a Muslim is in a non-Muslim land that is hostile towards the Muslims, or a non-Muslim land that is not hostile, he is not enjoined to differ from them in his outward appearance, because of the harmful consequences that may result from that.

Rather it may be mustahabb or obligatory for a man to be similar to them in his outward appearance sometimes, if there is a religious interest to be served by that, such as calling them to Islam and other good aims.

But in Muslim lands where Allah has caused His religion to prevail and has caused the disbelievers to come under Muslim rule and pay the jizyah, it is prescribed to be different from (the disbelievers in appearance).

End quote from Iqtida’ al-Siraat al-Mustaqeem, 1/471-472.

I think the comments you all make for something as serious as topic as this is outright silly.
There is bit of childishness in all that you have written. Guess its more of a fun centre than a "turntoislam" post. Show some restraint.

This thread is almost 2 years old so you're a tad late with your chastisement. Besides I didn't see it veering off track and some very beneficial conversation resulted. No harm done.

walikumsalam,

I understand the issue of mens should not be wearing very fitted cloths due to several reasons (also comes in the category of imitating kuffars). But even if you don't wear tight cloths, lets just say normal fit that also comes under the title of following the kuffars dress sense, doesn't it?. kuffars wear both tight and general fit.

In a result, even general fit could be regarded as haram isn't it? ?

Baggy trousers might again be imitating kuffar, so we have to draw the line somewhere. I am not a scholar though. Rightly or wrongly, I take my cue from what the older brothers at the masjid wear - they are more likely concerned with decency than fashion

I'm not what you believe
I know how I'd like to see my husband going to the mosque wearing white habits, but he is ok even if he wears jeans and t-shirt.if the body is purified I don't see anything wrong in this.the awra is covered and the clothes are not dirty!but sister Shy hijabi has posted a good reminder which I'll take present to him.wa salam
