assalamualaikum,
actually malaysian and singaporean malay is the same, indonesian malay is a bit different, but basically the way u pronounce it is the same. malay language is very easy to learn coz the phoenetics are really very simple. the letter A would sound like the A in 'car' or a U in 'but', B sounds like B in 'ball', C sounds like C in 'change', K sounds like C in 'cut' or 'car' or 'cat'. u could pick up any malay book and just read away.. :)

They dont teach jawi in the secular school eh :SMILY23::SMILY23::SMILY23:
but i guess its easier to learn Malay than Mandarin and Tamil eh. Learning to speak them is not much problem because of our exposure to them but try learning to read and write,,, 2 completely different written characters. So could u speak any of those languages,, even a little eh ;):)

Its Malay... spoken both in Singapore and Malaysia,,, and slightly different from Indonesian.Malay can be romanised(latin alphabet) or arabic alphabet.
Only thing we have more alphabets than the arabic and we dont used the diacritical(َ ِ ُ ً ٍ ٌ ) We call this arabic writing as jawi ( جاوي. Anyway i think the present generation dont give much thought to jawi they rather read in romanised eh

eg -- house = rumah = رومه
eat = makan = ماكن

Malay in Jawi form still exist in the south of Thailand (Pattani, Yala, and Naratiwat provinces).

We still learn it in Islamic school (from the age of 12 until the 3rd year of high school) which combine with normal education, therefore we study 6 days a weeks, and Friday is a holiday. Some areas, there are possibility for kids to start this education since they are in a primary school. I mean, they can attend a private class during weekends in the mosque.

So, Jawi form of writing Malay language still alive in the south of Thailand

Remark: what I mean by this education is unfortunately an Islamic education with Jawi-Malay language. After some years, children will have change to learn Islam directly in Arabic.
