:salam2:,

i remember a time when i was a child some 15-20 yrs ago, when a girl wore jeans, she used to become talk of the day. but now, it seems that it has taken over us by surprise. i see many incidents where the mother is in niqab but her young daughter in tight tops and jeans.

salwar-kameez is such a beautiful dress but nowadays its being kept just for Id festivals and weddings.

sisters in salwar-kameez has already become endangered, i worry they might become extinct and we'll talk that " once upon a time, there lived girls who used to wear this suit".

PS: members for indo-pak can understand me! inshallah :)

That's true. In 1980's, not long ago my hindu aunty shocked the whole village at my place when she wore brown jean and T Shirt. Every hindu critisize her and Muslims in my neighbourhood too. It was considered a taboo even in hindu community. Unfortunately today I'm seeing Muslim girls wearing jeans, tight clothing as though they are baseball players. Sometime from the back you never know she is muslim or non-muslim, almost no different especially the girl not wearing scarf.

I dont want to judge anyone ,but I think may be its better to ask where the sisters in Jilbab and proper Hijab ,as Jilbab is mentioned in the Quran and not salwar kameez ...
I havent peronally seen any plain proper covering shalwar kameez .All of them are very bright and attract attention ,and we all know that Hijab should be opposite of that ...

I agree ,thats why its better to wear it for women occasions only or in front of a husband only ...

well i dont agree salwar kameez is considered an hindu clothing. Those in pakistan and india wears them and do you call them hindu. No right. As long as it is covering i think it is fine. Muslims are people of many race and salwar kameez is a form of traditional outfit that symbolizes this fact. Well atleast this is what i think. Sorry did not mean to be rude.

PS: I love salwar kameez. I think its beautiful..

tell me whether it is islamic or not.many people tend to follow their culture than religion.so anyway if it covers ur awra then it is fine.but am wondering if when wear salwa khameez in western country, they will recognise u as a hindu woman or muslim woman.

I suppose you can say the same about some sisters who wear the hijab with tight fitting clothes instead of loose ones.

i m not too good in history but i think that muslims first started wearing this and it then went into hindu culture. bcoz hindus are recognised with sarees not salwar-kameez.

muslims in india and pakistan are wearing it since centuries.

Obviously if you wear your Salwaar Kameez with your Hijab...Jilbab...you will be recognised as a muslimah anyway....but anyways its not just women who wear Salwaar Kameez..its also the men! hehe!

I think its great! Rather than seeing them with there Jeans half way down their backsides when the come to pray Salaah! Asthagfirullah

:wasalam:

Keep Smiling All! :D

p.s. obviously the google images are only going to show the fashionable *hindu* style clothing so I feel its rather inappropriate as this is not what the brother meant. hehe!

I agree! :) I myself have 2 Salwaar Kameez that I sometimes wear to Jumuah prayer, though I don't particularly care for the material. I see some brothers wearing very nice ones made of cotton or wool... mine is like...ugh polyester :p

But anyway - even the Pakistani or South Asian I suppose they're called sisters in my community eschew the s.k. and wear abaya ...

Salam alykum sister Aisha

I M Sorry to say that U have sort of provoked the emotions of all those women who wear KAMEES SALWAR,as a proper covering dress under a LOOSE FITTING ROBE(Abaya)

For your kind information, dear sister, let me tell u that All Kamees Salwar arent how u have projected it to be..Itz properly tailored loose dress, covering the complete body..What u have refered to as bright dress isnt always true..well,itz a matter of choice..I being an Indian, wear Kamees Salwar, doesnt in any way mean that I m a Hindu..I specifically have cool cotton collection and that too to be worn under an abaya..

Miss Aisha, what Brother Ahmad Indian had tried to convey was that women have given up wearing that dress and resorted to Western dressing..Therz again a point there to contemplate on...You come to know about the dressing of a woman if she isnt wearing an abaya/jilbab..right?so,in the first place,a muslimah who doesnt wear an abaya/jilbab isnt adhering to Islamic code of dressing..Secondly,instead of wearing a proper covering loose dress, she wears TIGHT FITTING TOPS N JEANS and skirts which reveal her PARTS!!What fun is it to cover your hair with a headscraf while u r showing your body parts?:astag:..

Therz no harm in wearing jeans or whatever but it shouldnt show..

I M sorry,if i have hurted anyone, but being a muslim,I couldnt bolster my take on this post where some people have been hard on brother Ahmad.

Its sad to find you coming so hard on this issue of women having given up wearing KAMEES SALWAR..I have already explained to sister Aisha about itz NOT being a Hindu dress..You have misrepresented the dress and its essence!

All i wanted to know from u is why u have thrown away your all kamees salwars?(if u dont mind to tell me)

I don't want to give my own fatwa or judge anyone ,but isn't men's salwar kameez and women's salwar kameez look the same and we as women shouldn't be immitating men ?

Rasulullah (Sallallaaahu layhi Wasallam) cursed men who imitate women and cursed women who
imitate men...

Brothers and sisters,
Why to follow a culture ? Why not follow the Sunnah of the Prophet ,peace be upon him ,and his Companions,as they knew Islam best..Why not to learn from example of mothers of believers ?
Isn't it something to think about ?

Many views made here that conlflict one another. I would like to share mine as well, if thats o.k.

Well, i do wear shalwar kameez, but its not about what I wear, rather does it fit the requirements for a muslimah. yes it does, my point i am trying to make is, if my clothes are simple and plain, baggy, and i am wearing a big shawl, then does it matter.

Its about whats inside of you, people may dress religioulsy, talk in that manner, but whats in the heart is mre important. Someone may look beautiful, but if their is no piety within them, then their looks are worth nothing to Allah.

Its not about the people of this dunya, and what they think about you, and how u dress etc, if you yourself know what you are wearing is cauisng attention, then you will be questioned about it, no one else. but if you know what you are wearing isn't going against Islam, then you don't need to worry.

The day of meeting with Allah is very close, and we will be questioned about what we did in this dunya, not about others. Think about this.

Ya Allah forgive us, we sin without realising, we try to perfect our outer apperance, but we neglect our inward self. Ya Allah we have become lost in this dunya, forgive us, O Merciful one, Ya Allah help us to obtain jannah tul firdos, and bless us with the best clothing, that can only be found in jannah tul firdos. Aameen.

I sin all the time, i make mistakes all the time, if i made any mistakes here then please forgive me, and ask Allah to pardon me with His Mercy. Forgive me, if i have wrongnded anyone, my intention was not to do so.

If you google image search it you're only going to find designer, tight, fashionable shalwar kameez. The more traditional styles are perfectly modest. and no, it's not imitating the dress of men at all. Women's shalwar kameez are distinct from men's because of embroidery, colors, and style of the necklines and sleeves. Trust me - if a man were to put on a woman's shalwar kameez you would definitely be able to tell.

It isn't Hindu clothing (whatever that is?) either.

There's an article in this recent issue of Time about how girls prefer to wear kurtas and jeans or tight tops and jeans instead of saris so the sari business is dying - I bet you could apply the same idea to shalwar kameez.

If u are wearing a salwa khameez and a head scarf obviously they will know u r a muslim.

I completely agree about the jilbab remark. The "official" dress of Islam for women IS the abaya or jilbab and thus I do believe that's the best thing any Muslim woman should wear. Not saying that salwar kameez isn't perfectly suitable, because it can be when the style is right, but just that jilbab/abaya is MUCH better. However, there's a big difference between the way salwar kameez was NORMALLY intended to be as a SOUTH EAST ASIAN outfit and the way it is today as a WESTERN INFLUENCED one. Huge difference and Islamically there would be no problem wearing it the way it was in the former way (not western influenced).

i am afraid that salwar-kameez is more to hindus clothing.adn the prophet said do not dress up like how the non-muslims dress up.why not the muslimahs dress up like how the prophet's wives dress up.i dont agree with salwar-kameez .i hv thrown all my salwar-kameez .

This is incorrect. Salwar kameez have always been the outfit of South east Asian Muslims and this is dating back to the Ottoman period from which the outfit originated. The original Ottoman Turks had a similar form of dress from which salwar kameez was a direct offshoot of. It doesn't make sense to call it a "hindu outfit" as many Afghans wear it as well and they were never a part of India, but parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan WERE part of the Turkic-Persian Mughal Empire, which was an Islamic empire from which the creation of this outfit originated. The REAL "hindu outfit" IMO is the SARI, which is more like the "official outfit" of hindu India and it's also revealing so there's no mistaking it as anything otherwise.
